    Excellent video. Very crisp and to the point. For laying down a really old 2-cycle that has a gear shift lever on the side, it is best to lay it with the gearshift side up. There are Clymner manuals for old outboards if one does not have an original owner's manual, and the oil info may be way out of date. Most oldies use TC-W3 or equivalent if water cooled.

    For the pee- hole, weed- wacker line works great and is less likely to damage a hose. Great Video!!

      Here in Australia we call them whipper snippers and I can’t believe it took me a solid 30 seconds to figure out what a “weed wacker” is 😂
      But thanks mate this helped me with my yammy 15 2 stroke

    I’ve had good luck with automotive fuel hose for fuel injection engines. Made to handle ethanol

  • @Joshdavies146
    @Joshdavies146 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You shouldn't disconnect the fuel and start a 2 stroke until it stalls. They use the oil/fuel for lubrication as you mentioned earlier in the video. With out fuel it will be moving a little bit without lubricant and could damage it. If you are disconnecting fuel and running motor spray some sort of lubricant into the air intake/filter

    • @mitchellluxton7471
      @mitchellluxton7471 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Josh Davies nah mate because it is still lubricated until it stalls because the oil is in the fuel so is is lubricated the whole time it is running therefore causing no damage. But I can see why u would think that I did lots of research before doing this on all my motors (Yamaha and Mercury 2 strokes)

    I just cleaned my carb and found a ton of weird green stuff in the bottom of the bowl. I thought it was some kind of mold, but it must be little bits of corroded fuel line that got past the filter. Time to replace the fuel tank and hose! Thanks!

    Very helpful video for this of us who know nothing about outboards. Considering getting a 3-5hp outboard for a 12 feet plastic jonboat. What would you recommend and is it possible to pick up a used one in good condition? I'm located in Trinidad and Tobago, so if I have to ship from the US, Miami would be the best option.

    A lot of outboards state 100:1 ratio especially Yamaha which is way to lean!!! I flush outboard at the end of the season with salt away in a tub to get Tstat to open also run non ethanol fuel on my way in on a portable tank and remove and grease all bolts you will never have a problem removing them

    hi!
    I really love your short outboard motor vids!
    I do have a specific question you might the answer to: I got an Honda BF5 outboard motor and Im using it on sailboat. the engine speed is limited in idle and reverse gear. Thats done my a simple mechanic and would be very easy to remove to gain full motor power in reverse gear. Question is: is this limitation just a safety feature or can i damage the motor my going full speed in reverse? thanks for any hints!

    When you want to buy a boat, for only $346,000, plus 8% tax of $27,680, you can buy a clean used 32' Sea Ray, with three outboards and plenty of cup holders. Hmm, but you say you spent your last four hundred grand on some bling for the wifey, or maybe bought dear old dad a little cottage on the lake? Then find the dirtiest old boat and motor with good bones, clean it up, do some minor repairs yourself and pay for whatever professional work it needs, and for less than $5k you get a fine little boat, with your own sweat equity adding thousands in personal value to it.
    Open here for your complete instructions on how to do it.
    TheBoatGuy knows all when it comes to small boats and outboard motors.
    All hail TheBoatGuy!
