      +Sean Organ It seems like it...How much does it cost from Heathrow Airport to the Palace of Westminster?

    • @fujivillan
      @fujivillan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      princeicio You need to take the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to Green Park then change for the Jubilee line to Westminster. It takes about 45mins.
      If you're getting a 'day travel card' that will be £8 ($11) for zones 1 - 6. (Heathrow is zone 6. Westminster is zone 1)
      This ticket works on buses, DLR, and London Overground services.
      If you getting a single about £2 - £4 ($2.83 - $5.66).
      But if your staying longer then about 2 days get an Oscar Card. It cost about 10p - 15p per use on the tube and buses. So about 80 journeys will equal £8. And its a pay as you go card. No subscriptions. It's what I use.
      I recommend getting any of these items before you arrive. You can collect an any national rail station or underground station. Including Heathrow.
      You from the United States? =]

      You already there?
      Im going there in a few days, what im doing is flying a cheap company not to Stansted, but to Luton, because the train seems to be affordable from there to Paddington. Since our hotel is in Bayswater, Paddington is within walking distance.

  • @caseyvee4419
    @caseyvee4419 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here is another option regarding Stansted, assuming you get there cheap to begin with: stay in Bishop's Stortford, and take the train to and from London each day. Lodging is dirt cheap in Bishop's Stortford, and you are in walking distance to the train station. You do give up around an hour each way in transportation time, but otherwise this works out really well. Also, if you stay in Stort, you can the train the other way for a fairly short run up to Cambridge. Here's da plan- eat breakfast in Stort, take the train to London, pub grub or pret a manger in London for lunch if you eat lunch, train back to Stort, dinner in Stort. Most of this reflects the fact that everything is way cheaper in Bishop's Stortford, plus it is a nice town for a day by itself. Great vid, as always, and I am REALLY glad you mentioned how steep the taxis are, I have known a few people who got burned using them from Gatwick or Heathrow, also, especially from Heathrow, you run the risk of getting tied up in heavy traffic with the meter running, stupid expensive. I did that once. ONCE.

    Little tip: Birmingham international station (connected to Birmingham airport) is 1hr 13mins from London Euston, so offers another less obvious option that is worth considering. To get cheapest train tickets you need to book ahead though.

    It is great to see you highlighting the issue of cheap flights to Stansted airport. Standsted is really quite far north of London and the cost of getting to London will often cancel out any savings you made on the flight.
    If you are actually staying in London then I think Heathrow, Gatwick or Luton are the best options most likely. Heathrow is to the west, Gatwick to the south and Luton to the north. Heathrow is the best connected, but Gatwick is just fine. Luton is not as well connected but not too bad.

    Strange fact that I'm not sure has been mentioned yet, but of the six London airports only two of them are actually in London.
    Gatwick Airport is in Crawley in West Sussex, 29 miles south of the centre of London.
    London Stansted Airport is in Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex, 30 miles north-east of the centre of London.
    London Luton Airport is in Luton in Bedfordshire, 30 miles north of the centre of London .
    And finally London Southend Airport is in Southend in Essex, 42 miles east of the centre of London.

    I flew into Gatwick in summer, and I took something called easyBus to Victoria station for only a couple pounds. It takes much longer than the trains (almost an hour I think), but it is only a couple pounds, plus you get to see the city a bit while you're on your way☺️

    The good thing about gatwick is that it is easy to get to if you are coming from other parts of the U.K. I use it for going to nice coming from the south west. The Clapham change was easy and the whole journey from Exeter to gatwick only cost about 30 quid

  • @Lucian86
    @Lucian86 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My advice is to take:
    - National Express Bus to Stansted (from Liverpool Street or Victoria)
    - Thameslink or Southern trains to Gatwick from Blackfriars Station or Southern only from Victoria).
    - Thameslink to Luton from Blackfriars Station. You have National Express Buses to Victoria if that's a more convenient location but it's a bit longer and not cheaper.
    - Tube to Heathrow
    - London City Airport is in London and any public transport is ok.
    Know that if you travel in 3+ people you have more than 30% discount on the train prices. It's huge money savings.

    The half hourly (ish) commuter train from London Liverpool Street gets you to Bishops Storford which is the nearest town to Stanstead. From there its a £5-£10 taxi ride.

    All of London's 3000 busses and all taxi cabs are wheelchair and scooter accessible, but most tube stations are not. Also, if you are using a hospital-style wheelchair with hard-plastic wheels (Like I did the first time) the cobblestones WHICH ARE EVERYWHERE, will kill you off before the end of your vacation! LOL. Consider renting a scooter with pneumatic or at least wide tires. They will deliver right to Heathrow or to your hotel. It will make your trip 100% more enjoyable, and will especially make it nicer for your travelling companions who don't have to 'push' you through the city.

    i flew to london from new zealand by my self last year for the first time, i was able to get from heathrow to waterloo walk down to the eye and a look around get back to waterloo catch the tube to shaftbury avenue to get a sim card then back to waterloo to get a train to liphook to a friends house (all without google maps at this point before i activated my sim) i cant say enough how easy it was compared to new zealand. its pretty awesome :) i did have the unfortunate art while at gatwick flying to germany to witness a young girl about my age who missed her flight because she was supposed to go to luton, so easy to get mixed up, double and triple check those trains you are hopping on :)

    Been to London, Tube is cheap but shit, if you want to take the Tube go earlier they tend to e late by almost 10 minutes at times. Cab gets you to where you want to go but it is fucking expensive. Go walk there, you can enjoy the sights. I visited London last week. Landed at Stansted. Took the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street. Costed me only 8 pounds (one way), because I booked the train ticket (more than) 30 days in advance. I think there is also a special 7 days in advance price on their website, which could save you money.I think 8 pounds is not expensive for a very good connection between Stansted and central London, to be honest. And with a very cheap Ryanair flight added to that, London was a little less expensive than I thought it would be. :-)

    • @eelsemaj99
      @eelsemaj99 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're really lucky. For me to get to London from the south west it costs like £40 from Exeter to Paddington. Then there's the cost of the tube which is like £4.90 for the most central zone. Therefore I've only spent 3 nights there in the last 4 years (luckily my hotel was free as it was advertising £480 per night)

    There is a 6th London airport now called London Southend. Easyjet do fly there and there is a train link from the airport to Liverpool Street station. But there are no bus/coach services direct to London from this airport. The only other alternative is a taxi which can cost up to £100 from the airport to London.

    There is also London Southend airport, I have never been there but I mention it for the completeness. Maybe others can tell about their experiences with London Southend airport?
    So there are 6 airports in and around London with in total 7 runways. Heathrow will probably get an extra runway in 2030.
    Heathrow runs near full capacity so there delays are very common.

      @stateofflux7453 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      vangrails London Southend Airport is a good one imho. Cheap enough flights to European destinations. Very short walk from station platform to terminal and onto the plane. The rail service from London Liverpool Street/ Stratford usually runs every 20 mins and is not too expensive, it’s about a 55 min journey time, however on weekends that rail line is sometimes part-closed for engineering work (planned line closures can be checked in advance nationalrail.co.uk) - A way around this problem is to use the alternative rail line to Southend Central (in Southend town centre) and walk up to Southend Victoria station then take the short train ride to Southend Airport station.

    I used the Easybus service at Gatwick-airport. I booked the ticket two months early so I got it for like 4 pounds. Quite a bargain. But the transportation sucked, it took like 1 h 30 minutes in the traffic. Also, you have the usual budget-transportation problems like people being mad when they don't fit to the taxi that they booked etc. But I didn't expect much, so if you really are on a budget you can use this service, but be prepared for discomfort and be REALLY early when you are heading back to the airport so that you don't miss your flight.

    Generally I'm with you, but I have to disagree on Stansted. Several bus companies run 24/7 (several buses an hour) and they all cost under GBP 10, dropping you off anywhere at lots of places in the city centre. I usually take a National Express bus to Stratford for GBP 5-10 and they only take an hour since you won't have to do city centre traffic on a bus if you get off in East London.

    • @besteconomicsfaculty

    So from Gatwick...you take one of the other trains (not Gatwick Express) and that's a flat fare for adults and children then once you arrive in central London kids are free on the tube and adults have a daily cap but that cap does not include the trains from Gatwick??? Please confirm if I got this right, thanks

    I remember taking the bus from Heathrow back in 1971 and it took about 30 minutes to get where we were going, these days I would expect the traffic is much worse. Security at customs was very lax back then as well, I guess because we were a very innocent looking family group they just waved us through with no questions at all.

      It's terrorist groups like ISIS or Al Qaeda.
      Not Northern Ireland.
      - From a British person

    • @eelsemaj99
      @eelsemaj99 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Granted, the NI attacks were more than 30 years ago. The government was right to increase airport security then, and helped to soften the blow of further threats, such as ISIS or 9/11, when security became even stricter. The 7/7 bombings did manage to take place, so 10 years ago, we increased security again. the events of Northern Ireland just meant that they were more noticeable.
      Look at France. The reason they received two terror attacks this year is because of relaxed security. The French have no control over weapons arriving from Europe or any way of stopping them. The French policy is that people should be a lowed in, and that invites terrorists. UK security has foiled 7 terrorist attacks on London in 2015, and France has received two.
      The Northern Irish attacks are not the only reason for airport security, and are by no means the only reason that it is like it is today, but the fact that the government responded as it did led to more security earlier, so helped us raise concern for the issue of terrorism and security.
