Nasties were the first thing I grew successfully. I was ten. The experience made a gardener out of me. I never go a year without growing them.🌱🌺

The first plant I ever took care of was African violet. Made a plant lover of me. I never feel complete without at least one flower.

I’ve been a fruits and vegetables snob for the last 3 years. Mostly because of my bad luck with flowers. 😮
This year I’ve had more success. I even got 2 nasturtiums to germinate. So I did the logical thing and planted 5 more seeds. 😅
My hope is that I can layer my garden. Grow the flowers in narrow containers I’m using as flower pots, and put that on top of a flower pot growing tomatoes.
I hope the nasturtiums have deep roots for the big but narrow containers. That’s my only concern.

I threw a handful of these seeds on an empty part of my allotment last year. Then I forgot to visit my allotment for a few weeks. When I came back, nasturtiums everywhere! Kept the nettles away quite nicely.

@@ProjectDiaries I'm glad you said that. Planting in a bed I made so they'll be some what contained. Just planted English daisys Rose' and Leopard's Bane in that planter. Will these be a good combo one? What do you think. Also it's last years dirt so I'm hoping there isn't much left in the dirt nutrients. If I understood you correctly. I really liked the canary and the other exotic ones. Very cool! Loved this video and learned so much. Short, sweet and to the point. The coolest part and really a brilliant idea is the one's you planted in the see thru cup...duh. Really makes it easier to see how far along they are and best time to plant. I'm long winded but you were just so helpful. Thank You!

best way to have nasturtiums is to give up a shady corner to them, plant some seed and forget about them. They'll come up in that one spot forever afterwards

Fantastic video!! I really enjoyed the time lapse perspectives. I tried growing nasturtiums last year for the first time and I discovered some didnt germinate they just seemed to turn mouldy in the soil cups. This year I did the same thing and they are growing. Interesting to note it was seeds from last years packet that I tried to germinate this year and they actually did germinate and are growing no mold issue. Same exact process and everything . 🙏🏻🥰🇨🇦

Still a bit early for us - further north - but I love nasturtiums; handy idea. I usually save them until the tired end of summer to get a bit of late colour. I stick the seeds in a pot that something else has been growing in but is fading. Varying results. Thanks for the tips and ideas.

In South-Africa they grow like weeds. I don't sow them. I only pull them out where I don't want them to grow. I leave a few plants in my vegetable garden. They are helpful to attract bees and I believe they help to keep aphids away from my beans.

Thank you very helpful. I put mine in window that get a lot of sun, but I’m hoping it doesn’t get too warm where i live and will keep them watered

My understanding was nasturtium do not like their roots disturbed (per the seed packet), so I sew them in biodegradable pots. I do grow mine in the ground, however, I may try planting them in big pots for my front yard this year. This also explains why I didn't get as many flowers. Very informative. Thanks!

Great Video! I'm growing some for trap plants as we had recently had root aphids and want an extra barrier and a plant I don't mind dosing with Imidacloprid(I would not be eating of course).

I live in San Diego California and I planted these five times and they’ve died every single time I don’t know why the last batch I finally got three flowers and was ecstatic. I guess I’ll try again

It may be the time of year you’re trying to grow them. Because of the heat of SoCal, they thrive earlier in the year and begin to decline as the temperatures rise. CaliKim29 is a SoCal gardener and nasturtiums are her favorite. Her channel and videos regarding nasturtiums would be perfect for you!

It's a wet day in the subtropics in Australia where I live, so I am going to start Empress of India and Peach Melba from seed in a seed cells. My wife likes red and I like yellow. Cheers!

I was surprised that you didn't talk about filing the seeds. In my research and the last two years of growing these, I found that if you use a nail file on the seeds, you have much better chance of germination.

Also, you can soak in food grade hydrogen peroxide. that is what I do. It works great to open the seed and sterilize the seed.
