this is such a fantastic way to "review" a set, and although modulars aren't really my thing (just due to their price), this really makes me want a modular city/street, good stuff!
Thank you! Pricey though they might be, they undoubtedly give you some of the best bang for your buck. I used to collect them, but space became an issue too.
The videos you see online about turning sets into Modular’s are not usually that good but the way you turned that into a modular building is just so aesthetically pleasing and fits in perfectly even with the limited pieces. Props to you my guy.
I'm so glad LEGO has been doing these! I really wish they had included little explainers/fun facts in the instructions though. That would have been perfect
@CheeseyStudios I totally agree. I just scooped a lunar lander and that instruction manual is full of cool little tidbits! I wish they'd fit that into more sets, especially ones like this
Brilliant way to review set without revealing everything! My only note is that the circular family table is huge in Chinese culture and seeing it split into two semicircles was 😬 But otherwise it looks awesome 😁
I think it would be nice to use a 32x32 plate to keep it more original, but instead of increasing the size of the building itself adding a small garden or Chinese park in front or out the back!
I’m super excited for this set… and waiting to do this exact thing. Thank’s for showing us how a finished version looks against the other modulars. It looks amazing.
Glad this proved to be such a practical video! I'm surprised they didn't make it a modular right off the bat, but I did enjoy the added challenge of converting it. So, what's your plan? 16x32 or 32x32? Corner or regular?
Wow this is such a great idea and I love the end product of this project. I really love the christmas sets LEGO releases every year, and now I'm dying to see your spin on it. Just making your own take on christmas set like Hollyday Main Street or Santa's visit that would be soo awesome!
Thank you so much! Funnily enough, I was just doing some small modifications to the OG Winter Village Toy Shop! Probably nothing video-worthy, but I might drop a picture on my Instagram if it turns out nicely.
The original set is beautiful, but what you did is simply brilliant! I'm definitely doing something similar so I can add this amazing build to my city! Thanks for the idea and great video!
What a neat idea! As a modular building collector, I have never thought to add a 16x32 corner MOC! I have created a 16x32 townhouse to accommodate for the wide Assembly Square to even out the layout, but a corner would have been an awesome choice! Considering I have an odd number of corner buildings and the Cafe Corner will probably forever be out of my price range, a MOC corner would be very helpful! Thanks for a great idea! And for a wonderful video/build!
@CheeseyStudios I've always thought the modular city was missing a post office. That would make a pretty nice corner, I bet! I live in smalltown Wisconsin, and our post office isn't all that big, so I don't think it would be too bad of an idea!
Wonderfull review. I love how you've shown what you can do with the set, instead of just showcasing it and highlighting parts of it like every other review out there.
1:56 Oh, boy. The way you lined up the ingot 1x2s with the LEGO logo and injection moulding marks. None upside down... 😍🤩🥰 If there was any question about before, can definitively say I'm a Cheesey subscriber for life
If you're willing I honestly think this has great potential to be upsized to a standard corner modular at a later date when you have more time, partly because it feels slightly off for it to be half sized and the layout not being symmetrical, but also just because it offers something different to the NYC look of most other modular buildings - a contrast to the blocky, smoothness of sets like the Police Station and Jazz Club because of that intricate detailing, something you would see more clearly if it was larger. It would mean you could also fit in everything as intended and maybe add a custom structure on the roof like a cloth ceiling? Just throwing my ideas out there!
I think the orange tree might actually be a kumquat tree! Would definitely look forward to more content like this, if it became a format hahaha such a cool way of examining a lego set, while keeping the customization and personal dedign aspect of it. Always loved the lego masters mini challenges where the teams had to modify and transform the same set and use the same parts collection :)
So excited to see this! Ive transformed all released spring festival sets into a massive cultural quarter for my modular city. I'm absolutely going to have to steal some techniques from you for this one! Good stuff man
Nice looking sets, and a nice conversion given the short time you had available! 😀 Off the top of my head, to avoid the need to buy a second set to incorporate the kitchen I'd be tempted to add the kitchen to the back (i.e. as if it were a knock-through) as that way it could be a different building style, and maybe have offices or something above it... but obviously that would need more than three hours. 🤣
woah, you did all that in three hours?! dude!! that's incredible!! i know you were in lego masters but still, converting a whole building with that level of detail in three hours is super impressive... awesome video!! (as always, lmao)
This looks lovely! I was on the fence about buying before, but I'll definitely be picking this up and trying to give it the modular treatment as well after seeing this!
3 hours!?! ive been trying to make my own mini modular to fit on a shelf between the jazz club and the bookshop for months! seriously this looks really great
Your videos are constantly top quality and this one’s no exception! Well done 😊 I was quite surprised you said you did this in three hours. Impressive! 🎉
From what I understand at least it's an efficiency thing. They can pop the bricks out (and make more) by putting them on the side. Quantity > Quality :C
@@CheeseyStudios Speaking of quality, just chatted with a Lego friend in New Zealand and he never heard of "brittle brown"! Wondering whether only US was affected by that...
Thank for this! I've been tempted to get it for a similar conversion. Would love to get it to include in Ninjago City. Also want to incorporate the Monkie Kid city sets for a big East Asia-inspired super city!
Agreed; it doesn’t even have to fill the whole baseplate. The restaurant could be pushed back to regular sidewalk depth, and there could be an alley running down one side of the building.
ok hear me out what if you turn it into a 32 by 32 but in modular fashion it’s only the bottom floor of it and you can turn it into a china town building
I love your chanel really much and I like your suggestion of destroying and rebuilding existing sets. I actually built an even microier scale Hogwarts out of that micro scale one earlier this year and I only used pieces from that set
At last, a building that is Chinese enough! Don't get me wrong, I love how Ninjago looks and all, but for me it's frustrating not seeing enough Far East themed sets without westernizing excessively the details or mixing it with fantasy almost always (and that considering how I actually love fantasy). The day I see something similar with Latin American culture, my mind will blow and my wallet will suffer XD XD I doesn't have a modular set, and I've only have built a nice 20 x 20 studs café campestre (I don't how to say it in English XD XD ), so it's actually small but cozy (and sturdy, I haven't realize how much sturdy my MOC's tend to be o.o ).
