Did you put oil in the barrels before trying to start the engine? Did you check that the oil injection system was working? Clean fresh petrol in the tank, also first start possibly use a petrol/ oil mix to ensure instant lube of the bore/rings.
Those crappy Chinese points not fitting was the best thing that could have happened for this bike. In the last 50 years I’ve fixed tons of old bikes with points ignition and never once had to replace a set of points.
Hey man definitely go through the wiring looks like you almost fried a starter wire or something definitely to hot.. been watching since you got the Mt250 nothing but love
My guess is you fried the wiring and/or starter relay. Perhaps grounds are bad or too high of resistance? Not familiar with that bike, but does it have a decompression lever?
I had one of these. Spark plug gap (left & right) is 0.24", with the centre gap being 0.25" (thus proving that the myth that all spark plugs come with factory set gaps to be a lie).
I bought a 380 that 2 previous owners could not start. Read the manual and checked timing way out crank timing mark way out when checked with clutch cover off.
What is the deal with the single disc up front? Mine had twin discs from new, and it was a 1974 model, to UK spec. Great bike, if a bit on the hefty side!
Thanks for all the work you've put into these videos over the years. I'd like to think im mechanically inclined but it's more of an aspiration and a lot of guess work... I do enjoy driving though, just got a 03 Subaru Impreza outback to replace my '94 ranger. I'd love to get a motorcycle someday and i think an old bike is my best financial chance at it. Until then I'll live vicariously through these videos and peruse Facebook marketplace and Kijiji.
Terrific find!! This bike is faster than stink so make sure your brakes and tires are up to task. Get the Suzuki factory manual specific for this machine. Suzuki sold tons of these bikes, especially in the 1975-78 era. Yes, factory authorized parts are available. Don't buy unknown shit from E-bay. Have fun with it.
Those generator e-start systems really only work when the bike is warm. Your battery may not be powerful enough. I am guessing the blinkers will work when the engine is running too. Also don't forget to put some oil on that lube pad, or the points will just wear out right away. Looked like the smoke was from the wires going to the rectifier. Too much load on them while cranking. Only use the e-start to re-start the engine after it has warmed up.
Betting the carbs are going to be gummed up. The rust particles in the tank probably got into them too. This thing is going to sound great though and be a shit load of fun to ride!
no, Suzuki ridden in uk by tasteless goons. However, Yamaha were ridden by hooligans, myself included. Honda were ridden by extremely conservative and cautious nerds. Kawasaki in that period were generally written by complete lunatics with too much money.
I want to upload it tomorrow morning because it is the time that most of my viewers are on TH-cam and setting the premiere just gives people a heads up ahead of time. Sorry if I pissed you off haha, that was not my intention.
Spent a lot of time/effort on the intro of this one, and I liked it!👍🏼
Thanks!!!
I have one of these in similar condition . Thanks for the inspiration to get mine back going.

A little oil down the spark plug holes might of helped-Do we know how long it hasn't been run?
Way too much torque, when you tighten the sparkplugs!
Love ur vids!!!

You don't necessarily need to replace points unless they're damaged- you can just file them down a bit.
Exciting find! Can't wait to see if the Suzuki GT550 2 Stroke Triple will roar back to life. We sent you an email, take a look.

please check and make sure the oil filler cap itself can breathe.Otherwise you will seize it up
Wow, I guessed the right bike a few weeks ago, lol
I know, good guess! You were the only one that guessed the right bike! Good job!
@@GoldGuyRides They’re pretty nice bikes. Looking forward to watching the video.
The compression ratio is only 7:1.
Looks like the rectifier went kaputt
I had a Yamaha 350 2-stroke in the 70¨s, crazy good bikes...Please, get rid of that go-pro. Get on pf those good red cameras.. Big thanks!
Hlo bro Love from India 🇮🇳❤❤
Hi bro, thanks for watching and commenting!
Ummmm.... You're going to ride it? Those cracked tires don't look safe. Please reconsider.
That's a 74 or 75 not 73 I have one tell by the ram air top cover
No way!! I found one of these to potentially buy just the other day!
Your a bit of a rough arse mechanic?
