The thing about the original cast was they, along with the rest of us, were really living the reality of what was happening. It was a play in real time. The passion was extraordinary. I was at Woodstock and after the rain stopped, every one began singing "Let The Sun Shine." As if on cue helicopters began to fly over us. We were freaked out. Thats' when they dropped the flowers on us. Thousands of dandelions. It was no longer a concert but a spiritual experience . People fell to the ground and called out their names. What a time. Love this song for obvious reasons.
At Woodstock, after the rain, helicopters began to buzz the concert. At first, people thought they were military, and trouble was about to brew. But then, instead of bullets, flowers came floating down on the crowd. People fell to thier knees, called out thier names, and on some mystical que 400,000 "kids" many of whom were to be drafted sang this song. I don't know if it's in the movie-but it happened.
As a ten year veteran whose seen the "Ugly" I always find it difficult to listen to this musical even though it's my favorite. The voices of these performers in amazing. I wish I could see it live but I would probably wind up in therapy afterwards. Great work.
I just ended a production of Hair, and every time we sang this I cried so hard, I love it so much, it was literally the most life changing show I have done.
I saw this back in June 2009, with this cast. I knew absolutely nothing about Hair, save a couple songs. My life has never been the same. The world actually LOOKS DIFFERENT now that I experienced Hair
Had the good fortune of seeing the original off Broadway performance of this play when I was living in Miami at the tender age of 8. The film by the same name was awful. This recent performance captured the spirit and intensity of the play. Had to hold back the tears and felt tingling up and down my spine while watching and listening to this...
The original Broadway recording is the earliest record I can recall ever hearing. My dad gave it to my mom in the '60s. I still find many of the songs very moving. Oddly, though, I've only ever seen the movie.
So incredible! Even after this so powerful rendition of The Flesh Failures by Gavin Creel that brings tears to our eyes, we keep on listening for the new-told lies.
The very end of this play never fails to leave me bawling my eyes out. Claude's body lying on the American flag to me symbolizes the death of all the hopes and dreams of the hippie movement. It was both very sad but also in a strange way very beautiful to see.
I so wish I could have seen this particular cast do the revival. Gavin Creel is a GENIUS!!!!!!! And Will Swenson and Cassie Leavy sound like they were wonderful too! Such a powerful show!
I am so glad that I had the opportunity to see this on stage! to be there. I understood. Everything the play was about. This is amazing. Thank you, Hair. Thank you, Mr. Creel.
Seeing this scene in person you literally feel the emotion. I saw Gavin’s understudy but he was still showing the emotion. It hit home for me because at the time my brother was deployed and during the finale when they let everyone one stage Cassie and the understudy saw I was just crying and Cassie (Sheila) and the U/S gave me the biggest hug. I wish this show was back because not only was this musical amazing, they get you involved and make it like you’re there.
Don't shed tears...the hopes and dreams of the hippie movement are not dead at all. The road is crooked and, at times, darkness seems to dominate. Still, we humans are destined to grow toward the light. In spite of the insanity of despots, we cannot escape the compelling need to "let the sunshine in". It might not happen today or tomorrow or next year, but someday we will prevail. In the meantime, please realize that you are not alone...I, and so many more, stand by your side. With love..
I would do anything to see this show I haven't seen it but I downloaded the soundtrack. I would love to play Sheila because of easy to be hard. This video was the reason I became a total hippie at heart. I love everything hair stands for! This song is one of the best.
Thanks so much for reposting this, and to whomever recorded it in the first place! My only complaint is I kinda wish the audience didn't continue to clap when the music stops. That ending is MUCH more powerful with just the voices.
I saw the show March 6. When I heard they were going to London I had to see Will Swenson and Gavin Creel. I didn't want to see anyone else playing the roles of Berger and Claude. I was so moved beyond belief. The whole entire cast was fantastic, true professionals. I wish I could see them again. Will left the show in May and Gavin is leaving Sept 1. So BUMMED.
@gibson2085 he was a pretty amazing claude - i saw both him and his understudy, and maybe its not for everyone's tastes, but Gavin Creel definitely lived the part really well, so riveting and his acting was superb... not sure this video does him justice.
when i went to see thiis i met Annaleigh Ashford she was so nice im going to see this again in november takeingmy mom for her bday this show is so dam awsome
The new cast is excellent from what I can tell. It's hard to hear them over the band. Not just in this live recording but even in the soundtrack cd. Was the arrangement different? Anyway, this scene had me bawling until my eyes hurt. The emotion is just too intense!
My biggest regret now being seeing West Side Story instead of this. This whole scene was absolutely chilling and I don't usually cry in the theatre, I especially don't cry when it's a video, but somehow it happened.
To those of you who are confused, Hair is a musical about the Tribe, a group of hippies living in the city during the Vietnam war. Claude (in the uniform) gets drafted, and this scene is after he's killed in the war. It's a huge political message. If you've never seen it, I would suggest both seeing it live and the movie version, since they're different.
I've seen the show 3 times since it opened in 2009. Once with the OBC, the last 2 with the new tribe. (twice in the past 3 weeks) This is probably the most powerful ending to a show ever performed on a stage, imho. I remember when I saw the OBC, I was not expecting this ending so I bawled. I don't like that the audience clapped. It kind of ruined the ending. Everytime I've seen it, everyone was dead silent & letting the tribe's voices & the scene make its impact. Love this show!
i love this song but i am so confused about the meaning of it. please this is one of the best songs i have ever listened to and i want to know what it means if anyone can tell me please i woul really appreciate it.
Spoiler alert if you haven't see the musical for sure. I saw it in my home town of Milwaukee, WI. last year at the Skylight Theater. Anyway as said as the ending is, it's a great message of anti war. Having said that I'm grateful for our military, I do admire them sacrificing their lives for us.
There sacrifice was for NOTHING. My dad spent three tours in that stupid war, and he died right after coming home the last time.... I want my three years back with him. Fuck the government. And I don't admire them, I am ashamed of them. The real heroes who "sacrificed" fucked up their lives -- skin in the game -- by refusing to be forced to kill.
@illbeastonishing16 yes, the person who posted this originall has a facebook page where she uploads random broadway shows once a week and Hair was the show one week. She has an email were you can trade, just message her on this fb group
My heart breaks for the loss of our troop's lives just like any reasonable caring persons would but I'm for ending the current imperialist wars in the middle east. No more of our "lambs to the slaughter!"
for me hair is one of those musicals you have to see to know what is going on. which is wh i am so confused about what the hell just happened. amazing song amazing voices i just dont know what they are meaning.

ugh this show gives me goosebumps. i feel so lucky to have seen this show with this briiiiilllllliiiiiaaaaant cast! beautiful just beautiful.
This has got to be one of the most powerful endings to a musical that I've ever seen.
I just ended a production of Hair, and every time we sang this I cried so hard, I love it so much, it was literally the most life changing show I have done.
Cassie Levy puts so much emotion into this song, love it!!!😍😍😍
She was wonderful...but for the Finale she had great support from Sasha, Kacie Sheik and Jackie Burns, who all belted those notes.
I saw this back in June 2009, with this cast. I knew absolutely nothing about Hair, save a couple songs.
My life has never been the same. The world actually LOOKS DIFFERENT now that I experienced Hair

I can't stop crying. This song always makes me. So powerful; Gavin and the Tribe are perfection.
This brought me to tears
hotdrucy every time.
I played Sheila in a production of Hair two years ago and this song still wracks me....I LOVE this version.
This has to be one of the best musical songs and finales ever, even if it makes me cry when I watch! Claude's so sweet, I wish he didn't die. :(
So incredible! Even after this so powerful rendition of The Flesh Failures by Gavin Creel that brings tears to our eyes, we keep on listening for the new-told lies.

GAVIN CREEL I LOVE YOU!!!
The best revival, i was too young for the original, but felt like tho original soundtrack as opposed to the movie!!!

Gavin Creel is perfect omg

This musical changed my life. There's nothing else to say. I wish it would come back to broadway
ich glaube das diese ist am bestem, das ich habe horen, jetzt
I am genuinely sad that I am not still in Durham watching this. We saw it, and it changed my life. No, it IS my life now.
@gibson2085
he was a pretty amazing claude - i saw both him and his understudy, and maybe its not for everyone's tastes, but Gavin Creel definitely lived the part really well, so riveting and his acting was superb... not sure this video does him justice.
i'm singing this in my high school choir
i love this song!
it's beautiful!!!!
when i went to see thiis i met Annaleigh Ashford she was so nice im going to see this again in november takeingmy mom for her bday this show is so dam awsome
hair changed my life.
Not only yours!
I have an absolute friggin breakdown during this song. Every time. Even watching it now.
I have only seen the movie, love it. The thing with helicopters throwing flowers sounds amazing, genious. I wonder who did it?
I miss when Caissie did the high notes in her solo. She sounds fantastic, as does Gavin and the rest of the tribe
I love you for recording this
The new cast is excellent from what I can tell. It's hard to hear them over the band. Not just in this live recording but even in the soundtrack cd. Was the arrangement different?
Anyway, this scene had me bawling until my eyes hurt. The emotion is just too intense!

the line "Berger......., I feel like I died" killed me EVERY time I saw this.
Caissie is a freaking LEGEND!!!
this is my fave scene! thanks for posting!
This whole thing. Right in the feels.
GAVIN CREEL IS BAE SO HARD!!
Let's get real - this is the BEST finale of any musical ever.
To those of you who are confused, Hair is a musical about the Tribe, a group of hippies living in the city during the Vietnam war. Leenie Nadeau in the movie George is killed, not Claude
In case nobody knows-this is returning to Bway on July 5th for 10 weeks.!!!
@meangirl714 Niether haha, its a ommuntiy theatre group ages are 17-23! Such an amazing show!
This is the original cast that was at the Hirschfeld from March 09 to March '10; And some, but
not all were at the St James last summer.
Awesome, so sad Gavin and Will are not in the show anymore :(
This song is really good!
caissie levy is bae
Is Claude played by Paris Remillard here? he looks pretty similar....Who is this? Hair was so fun to go to! I got to dance on stage!!!! :D
I love the emphasis of "facing" in both verses.
No song moves me like this. Amazing because I am a church musician.
CHILLS! Thats all I have to say
@HunterHuiet105 it's the '09 cast, though many of the same performers were featured in the tour
Berger!!!!!, Berger....
i love this song but i am so confused about the meaning of it. please this is one of the best songs i have ever listened to and i want to know what it means if anyone can tell me please i woul really appreciate it.
Such a great video! -3
Amazing amazing amazing

It's actually "If I am unseen, I can perform miracles."
how strange was it the movie had Burger replace claude and Buger dies
My heart breaks for the loss of our troop's lives just like any reasonable caring persons would but I'm for ending the current imperialist wars in the middle east. No more of our "lambs to the slaughter!"
i dont think ive ever seen anyone believe in anything more than this cast did in "let the sunshine in"
for me hair is one of those musicals you have to see to know what is going on. which is wh i am so confused about what the hell just happened. amazing song amazing voices i just dont know what they are meaning.
@Patff Thanks so much :)
Their finally seeing that I can perform miracles. It's the only thing I want to do on this dirt.
Is this the 2009 revival that performed @ The Al Hirschfeld Theater or this the tour company that performed at the St. James this past summer.
Wau good
what a powerful ending!!!
@Patff Okay but what does claude say after Berger and Sheila
Does anybody know what he says after "Berger i feel like died"?
@TheWoodstockBaby Berger calls out Claude's name, and Claude says "I'm Here"
@kdicristo congrats! is it a high school thing? or the tour?
does anybody know if anyone has the full show up for trade?
@illbeastonishing16 oh and it's called "Kelsey's Broadway Videos", search it on facebook because some reason i wasnt allowed to post the link
*Caissie Levy... I can't type tonight..
Three people stated their hate of sunshine.
@USCthea89 Oh. sorry. He looks a HECK of a lot like Paris here though. Both are amazing. :D
@kdicristo nice!
@ThatOtherGuy1100 It just might be.
Oh, never mind...Its Gavin!!!! I know who that is!!!
