    A brilliant performance and a remembrance of times in our past facing a dying nation. You can’t Let the Sunshine In until you have grieved the Flesh Failures.

    Seeing this scene in person you literally feel the emotion. I saw Gavin’s understudy but he was still showing the emotion. It hit home for me because at the time my brother was deployed and during the finale when they let everyone one stage Cassie and the understudy saw I was just crying and Cassie (Sheila) and the U/S gave me the biggest hug. I wish this show was back because not only was this musical amazing, they get you involved and make it like you’re there.

    The thing about the original cast was they, along with the rest of us, were really living the reality of what was happening. It was a play in real time. The passion was extraordinary. I was at Woodstock and after the rain stopped, every one began singing "Let The Sun Shine." As if on cue helicopters began to fly over us. We were freaked out. Thats' when they dropped the flowers on us. Thousands of dandelions. It was no longer a concert but a spiritual experience . People fell to the ground and called out their names. What a time. Love this song for obvious reasons.

      She was wonderful...but for the Finale she had great support from Sasha, Kacie Sheik and Jackie Burns, who all belted those notes.

    The new cast is excellent from what I can tell. It's hard to hear them over the band. Not just in this live recording but even in the soundtrack cd. Was the arrangement different? Anyway, this scene had me bawling until my eyes hurt. The emotion is just too intense!

    Spoiler alert if you haven't see the musical for sure. I saw it in my home town of Milwaukee, WI. last year at the Skylight Theater. Anyway as said as the ending is, it's a great message of anti war. Having said that I'm grateful for our military, I do admire them sacrificing their lives for us.

    • @TheInnerParty
      @TheInnerParty 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There sacrifice was for NOTHING. My dad spent three tours in that stupid war, and he died right after coming home the last time.... I want my three years back with him. Fuck the government. And I don't admire them, I am ashamed of them. The real heroes who "sacrificed" fucked up their lives -- skin in the game -- by refusing to be forced to kill.

    Had the good fortune of seeing the original off Broadway performance of this play when I was living in Miami at the tender age of 8. The film by the same name was awful. This recent performance captured the spirit and intensity of the play. Had to hold back the tears and felt tingling up and down my spine while watching and listening to this...

      The original Broadway recording is the earliest record I can recall ever hearing. My dad gave it to my mom in the '60s. I still find many of the songs very moving. Oddly, though, I've only ever seen the movie.

    At Woodstock, after the rain, helicopters began to buzz the concert. At first, people thought they were military, and trouble was about to brew. But then, instead of bullets, flowers came floating down on the crowd. People fell to thier knees, called out thier names, and on some mystical que 400,000 "kids" many of whom were to be drafted sang this song. I don't know if it's in the movie-but it happened.

    I would do anything to see this show I haven't seen it but I downloaded the soundtrack. I would love to play Sheila because of easy to be hard. This video was the reason I became a total hippie at heart. I love everything hair stands for! This song is one of the best.

  • @tb30486

    Don't shed tears...the hopes and dreams of the hippie movement are not dead at all. The road is crooked and, at times, darkness seems to dominate. Still, we humans are destined to grow toward the light. In spite of the insanity of despots, we cannot escape the compelling need to "let the sunshine in". It might not happen today or tomorrow or next year, but someday we will prevail. In the meantime, please realize that you are not alone...I, and so many more, stand by your side. With love..

    To those of you who are confused, Hair is a musical about the Tribe, a group of hippies living in the city during the Vietnam war. Claude (in the uniform) gets drafted, and this scene is after he's killed in the war. It's a huge political message. If you've never seen it, I would suggest both seeing it live and the movie version, since they're different.
