    Whats the advantage of having an element inside it to just sitting it on a heat source?

    • @danielanthony1054
      @danielanthony1054 ปีที่แล้ว

      well a heat source is usually an element inside of your stove OR direct fire. The problem is that you're only using one direction (above the heat source) so the rest of the energy that you're putting into your element/fire is being lost in all the other directions (around the element/fire and below it). But when you have an element inside of your liquid you won't lose heat to the other sides because your liquid is surrounding your heat source.

    I have one question, How well will this work for whiskey? being stainless not copper? wont it make the end product a little harsh?

    • @SharkRangler
      @SharkRangler 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Dennis Lafond Pack your column with copper mesh and it does the same thing. Get rid of them pesky sulphides.

    what about temps....ive always used a thermomater at the top to tell when im runnin into my tails and see my steady temps...i dont see how a temp gauge is optional

      It's also good to know what temperature to hold for burning off those nasty heads. 155 to 165 and let her run till she stops producing. Throw away the nasty shit and crank her up to 179 or maybe a little higher, find that sweet spot and let her run. That ought get rid of the good stuff..LOL Then crank her up on high and run yourself some good window cleaner.

    • @nepotsonguy142
      @nepotsonguy142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diregremo they were speaking of head temperature, It needs one up top to measure vapor coming off “the point of no return back to the boiler”

    Doesn't being all stainless create a bad sulfur smell when distilling?

    • @chadmitchell4
      @chadmitchell4 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you put copper mesh in the column or if the condenser inner tubes are copper this would be alleviated. Personally I'm a all copper guy for the same reasons.

    You literally don't need a pressure gauge for a still like this. It is an open ended system, extra pressure is reduced immediately on the other end.

    • @mattf9096
      @mattf9096 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can clean stainless with any number of cleansers and be fine but using something like PBW would be ideal for stainless.

    The boiler includes a fitting for an electric heating element ? ........
    1 : the electric resistance is submerged in alcohol for a future gin?
    2 : there is no danger?
    thanks for your reply

    • @BillMcGirr
      @BillMcGirr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1857 Spezial Bier
      The alcohol content in the boiler will most likely never exceed 15%.
      It’s doubtful it’s more dangerous than stilling on an open flame.

    • @damonstahl7757
      @damonstahl7757 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      food grade silicon gaskets are platinum treated to make them essentially unreactive. id like an option for cork gaskets to eliminate the possibility of any synthetic materials leaching into my shine.

      The safety valve is on the lid a couple inches away from the column. If one gets blocked, the other is clear.

    I don't understand how the water hoses that are to be added to the extension work? Is that extension entirely hollow, or are there two chambers for the water circulation... One side for the water to circulate and the other side for the vapor? Has anyone tried this and know how well it cools to form the liquid?

    • @ClawhammerSupply
      @ClawhammerSupply  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Byron, Yes, there are 2 separate chambers. Cooling water and still vapor do not mix.

    • @davidclayton347
      @davidclayton347 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a smaller tube inside the large tube. Hook a cold water supply to the bottom hookup and the water will come out the top as hot water. You can take a cooler with ice water and a pump and circulate the water during distilling.
