That's wonderful Eleanor! What sort of harp are you going to go for?

I am considering between the L&H troubadour VI and the Ogden.
Which harp would you go for?
    Thanks

How much do you suggest spending on a relatively good but cheap harp as a beginner? I'm a piano player looking at learning the harp.

It really depends on what sort of harp you are looking for and what your budget is.

You can't go wrong with a Dusty Strings Ravenna 34. I've recently started learning the harp (been playing piano for 60 years), bought a cheap harp and it had to be returned due to serious manufacturing defects. It refused to hold the tune and developed a serious wobble suggesting the frame was warping. The company I bought it from gave me a full refund. I then got the chance of a second-hand Dusty Strings Ravenna 34, 2 year old harp from an established harp shop not far from where I live and took it. I've never looked back. It sounds wonderful and is a pleasure to play. Buy the best you can afford and if it means waiting a bit and saving up more, do that. You won't regret it.

@@Pythonaria okay, I understand it's just that I find it hard to believe I'm going to spend around 2k on a harp. Meybe in 60 years.

@@Elazarko I bought the cheap harp from an online company I've dealt with before. It cost £850 ($1034). The second-hand Dusty Strings cost £1200 ($1460) so not a great deal of difference in price but a HUGE difference in quality and sound between the two harps. I did get a full refund on the cheap harp as it was a manufacturing defect. Keep an eye on the second-hand market. You could get a real bargain. My DS harp is only 2 years old. It was an ex-rental and had slight damage to the base but nothing some black paint can't cure. Whatever you decide, good luck and I'm sure you'll love your harp when you get it.
