Thank you for this video. very much appreciated. i was going to get this installed by my local garage for who quoted me £110. after watching this installed it my self in 5 minutes lol. Thanks to you.
Got a dashcam at Christmas and this video really helped, I was able to order the correct cable and the best connections I needed. Installed the cam myself in 15 mins , thanks very much
Here is a Tip. I did not have a Female E 11mm Torx socket set. I did not want to buy a whole set for the sake of one nut. However found a cheap solution. All you need to a set of pliers, all I did was just grabbed the nut and turned it, came loose in seconds. Once loose, use your fingers to un-tighten more and then install the 'U' earth ground wire. Then use the pliers to tighten again.
Thanks again, used the 3Amp and it worked perfectly. Only left do is to cable tie. I was using velcro but realised it could be a fire hazards so using electrical tape and cable ties. Thanks again.
Great video but why would you connect to a switched fuse?. I’ve installed a nextbase 522 in my vehicle plus a rear camera connected to a permanent supply which means the cameras are working night and day to record anyone damaging my vehicle while parked etc.
I used the left hand side because I run my camera 24/7. Everything from bumps to keying has happened while my car was parked. Although having the connector upside down means there's basically no fuse for the camera because it won't fit in otherwise. Having said THAT, it's a 1 amp camera and the smallest fuse I would get was 3 amps anyway, so either something in the hardwire kit or the camera will fail before the car catches fire.
Thank you for the video, just what I was after. 1 question though. How long after switching off the car will the camera record for? I wanted mine hardwired so that it records and then cut off before the car battery goes flat
As Ron Manser also posted here 7 months ago there is importantly a right way and a wrong way to insert the fuse tap into the fusebox socket..It must be inserted into the live end section of the fuse box slot you are inserting the fuse tap into..use your probe to find the live side terminal of the empty fuse slot and make sure the fuse tap points the correct way up..
Good video but can you explain re earth cable fitting to hex. bolt...at 8min 31 there seems to be some sort of plastic bracket blocking access to bolt, video cuts then resumes with earth cable connected to bolt at 8min 35 and the bracket blocking bolt is no longer there..did you have to completely remove it to access hex. bolt?]
hi nice tip. i have vauxhall corsa 2017 model. i do not know where to earth. i cannot find any small bolts to attaced to that. i going to use cigarette lighter fuse but it is 30amp fuse is that ok? please help me
Great video. My camera has functionality to be able to operate when the engine is off and parked. The fuse you suggested is only live when the ignition is on. Which fuse should i use instead?
Hi, I have a 2015 vauxhall Corsa SE, i have an area in the center of the screen at the top, where a manufactures camera etc that recognizes speed signs, this area has a covering, would i be able to put a very small camera in there and somehow connect it up to the intel system in the car. If this is not possible, what about the speckled area of the glass, as camera would need a clear sight. What camera would you suggest as i want a front and rear facing one, also have reversing camera that view comes from intel system. I guess the camera would need to be fitted on nearside of car, sorry its so long, many thanks Barry.
Great instructional video. Good info, good presentation, and good preparation. There’s so many unintentionally bad ‘how to’s’ out there, it’s good to see one done properly. I’m looking for a small size dash cam…any recommendations in the budget range? Thanks very much.
Hi mate great vid, could I still use the 3amp fuse socket that you used as I don't have a heated steering wheel anyway, and then add a 10 amp fuse spur for my aftermarket headunit?
Good video, very well explained.I have a 2013 plate Corsa and would like to fit a dashcam.Just one point..Don't you lose the time and date everytime you switch off if the camera doesn't have a permanent live supply to it? I do know that cameras do have an on/off button on the unit itself so wouldn't it need a permanent live supply to retain it's correct time and date?
Hi great video well explained. i have recently bought the nextbase 522gw. i had my old 612gw wired by a pro. the hard wire kit is similar. i took the old wiring from the dash all the way to the fuse box. i copied the exact way the pro connected the fuse. when i tried pulling the old wire out the earth wire is hid and cant find. it behind the glove box some where. i have a 2016 corsa. would you know were the earth wire would be attached. thanks keep safe
It could be mounted to either a metal bracket that sits up behind the glovebox or it could of been soldered on to one of the cars earth cables. Your best to remove the glovebox for a look or snip the black earth cable as high up as possible
It occured to me today that there is a right and wrong way to fit these fuse taps, put it the wrong way round and the current will follow through both fuses for the take off wire.
hi i installed sony aftermarket head unit to corsa d 2013 with connects 2 steering wheel controls .ive not connected the red and black wires to power the head unit as its all working fine without these wires .and have been for couple months now .why is it working without the wires connected up .it powers up when ignition key is turned im so puzzled .thanks
PJs projects can i take from the same port as you for my double din?its the heating steering wheel and my model doesn't have one, thanks a lot for your time
Yep same as this video with the rear cam plugging in to the front cam via a long cable. This rear install I did may be of help. th-cam.com/video/m2GNqJffZKA/w-d-xo.html
In your experience, on the Corsa 08's the number plate on the back is quite low, I don't mind the rear camera being mounted low but have you had any great success in locations for the rear on this car, currently got it looking out my back window, could like it mounted outside
Hi great video. It's made me feel I can do the install myself. One thing I'd like to know before I do is, I'm wanting to use the parking mode on my Nextbase 612. So with that in mind it will need power when the ignition is off. Which fuse do I look for in order to choose the correct one. On a 2016 Corsa EcoFlex. Kind Regards.
On that year most of the left hand side fuses are constant live but you will need to test them and check against the owners manual for which one to use. You don't want to use anything to do with Airbags, abs, engine management,or fuel system. Bare in mind that the 612 has battery back up but this only last a few hours so if your leaving the car for days constant power will be required and the camera 'should' detect if it's dropping the car battery to low.
Ahhhh I see. Every review I've seen says you have to hard wire it to use parking mode. So am I correct in thinking if it has a back up battery that it it will be fine as is if only left for a few hrs?
Thanks for the video, really helpful! Much appreaciated! Three questions: 1. At around 5:43, you measure the voltage with the red probe. Where is the black probe connected to? Is it connected to ground (any metal surface (no paint) of the car?) 2. I am planning to use my dash cam in parking mode and am required to use one of the fuses on the left. Which one should I use? I was thinking about fuse number 5 from the top (yellow fuse) which according to the manual is the Windscreen Washer System, so that in case the fuse tap accidentally disconnects nothing vital in the car shuts down? Would that be ok? 3. Have you ever used the top connections/fuses (Number 1 and 8 in the manual)? They are listed as blank in the manual, does current even passes through them? I was thinking I might use these two and avoid interfering with the car's electronics. Cheers
Very helpful video, I have a 2008 Corsa SXI, if I use the very same fuse you have used in this video should it be exactly the same? I have no tool for testing voltage to see what is active with and without ignition
Hey pj just wondering where you’d put the earth on a corsa e as the fuse box is slightly different to the d ..... looking to fit a dash cam and can’t seem to locate a good earthing point around that area
A few places spring to mind. 1.The earth wire to the 12v socket is easy to reach. 2.The center console mounting bracket bolts. 3.The bonnet release lever bracket bolts.
Hi bud, I can't seem to get a e11 hex socket from anywhere, is there any other place the earth can be connected apart from under the fuse box? Appreciate your help
Thanks for that, I managed to hardwire it and it turned on fine. As i was putting the fuse box cover back on it made a click sound and then shut off it won't turn back on? It's a camera with parking mode and the radio / heated steering wheel still work just camera won't come on with hardwire kit. Works when I plug it into the ciggarrete lighter via adapter?
I'll be hardwiring a 412gw over the weekend to the same vehicle, if I put it on the same fuse as you does that circuit power up at the first click of the key or the 2nd? Thanks.
PJs projects I'd rather find something that power on the first click but I don't suppose it would be the end of the world, looked in the owners book and there no mention of what an 'E' fuse is or the significance of what it means, all the other fuses marked in 'amps' it's a very helpful video so thanks for posting, just waiting for the specialist socket to arrive.
Hello, how do you know that fuse you connected it to (showing E) is 3amp and what it is used for? Also, when you’re testing the voltage with the multimeter, where are you touching the Common probe?? Cheers?
The company I work with has Autodata manuals that list fuse locations and wiring loom layouts so I can check to see what fuse is for what circuit,as for how to tell if the fuse is a 3amp,5amp or whatever it is stamped on to the plastic part of the fuse. The common probe can be earthed on many things such as black radio earth cable, outside section of the aerial or even an exposed none painted bold behind the dash.
Depends on the camera, most cams have battery back up and parking mode only records when either a bump or motion is sensed and so main power from the car is not needed. If you need a constant powered fuse it will be a case of checking to see what other accessory fuse is powered even when ignition is off.
I’ve got a Vauxhall Combo C and I’m trying to replace the factory radio. All I have left to do is wire up the power cable to my fuse box but fuse box is under the hood and there is no internal one. Also no spare connection behind my cigarette socket. Any ideas?
On a Combo C I would route a fused supply from the under bonnet fuse box, however if this is something you don't want to tackle then maybe use the power feed to the heater switch panel as this is only live when the ignition is on. To do this you need to test it with a meter but most have a thick red wire on a long slim five cable plug that is the switched one.
Hello, for an installation of a double din aftermarket radio in corsa d,can i put the splitter circuit in the 3rd port of inside fuse box that is the 20amp fuse for the original radio?if yes how amps for the the new fuse?thanks a lot
Your original radio 20amp should be a constant live supply so you will need to find a switched live in the fuse box and use a 10amp fuse for the new radio. A lot of people just take a power feed from the 12v socket power cable because that is normally a switched power cable.
PJs projects can i take from the same port as you?its the heating steering wheel and my model doesn't have one,and one last question,it will be a problem if the splitter get in fuse in the wrong orrientation?thanks a lot for your time
The fuse boxes are a bit a bind to access but it is the correct way of doing things. Not something I would recommend but you could check to see if your cig lighter socket is switched live and if so tap a power feed from that,be aware I class this as a bodge however.
Thanks so much, I have the 2009 corsa with the same exact fuse layout and it was very easy to follow. Question, so the earth U ring, you said your were going to chop it off and put a O ring which I am thinking f doing for more stability. When you were attaching it, did you just crimp it on, or just used electrical tape. Thanks again.
Thanks for the info. I just ordered my dash cam and the hardwire kit form eBay. Your video is very easy to follow. The only changes I will be making is finding another place to earth the o ring as I don't have a torx socket set and I don't want to spend £10 to buy a set for just one screw (will in the future) so going to have to look around for another screw. Question, so I have the same exact fuse-box, corsa 2009, if you don't use the ignition 'E' fuse, what would be the next best option. Cheers. PS: Great tip with the cable tie and electrical tape, it will stop the cable falling down.
Thanks again, I decided to go with the 3Amp, which is the Heated steering wheel fuse. Everything has finally arrived and tomorrow I will be installing it. Because of your awesome video, I should have no trouble installing this now. Thumbs Up. Subscribed. Hope you make more of these videos.
Your best to run a fused power cable the length of the car to the fusebox. Or I guess if your looking for a quick bodge you could splice in to the thick red power cable that goes to the rear of the heater control panel. To remove the panel simple take the radio out and notice two metal clips holding the heater control panel in. Lift the clips slightly to release the panel at the top and slid forwards to remove. You should see two wiring connectors and you want the one on the right with the thick red cable in it. If you decide to go this route at least fuse it but tbh doing it correctly to the fusebox would be a better idea.
can i use this same type of fuse spur to connect the red power cable from my ISO wiring harness connector when i fit my kenwood car stereo in my 2008 CORSA D??? can u post an ebay link for the fuse spur that i would need to buy please. many thanks!!!
Hi. Yes it will work fine for your stereo. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-X-Mini-Blade-Spur-Add-a-Circuit-Fuse-Tap-Piggy-Back-Blade-Fuse-Holder-12-24-/252882363950?hash=item3ae0f6a62e:g:oHQAAOSwOVpXfScg
Depends on a couple of things with this model, what region, right or left and drive and what trim level the car has. Your owners manual will have a list showing what each fuse is for.If you don't have a owners manual you could either phone a main dealer or reply here with the car details.
Yes very much so,some sat navs with built in traffic updates require the original power cable to be used and so you would need this type of thing - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V15A-FEMALE-CIGAR-LIGHTER-SOCKET-PIGGY-BACK-MINI-BLADE-FUSE-HARD-WIRE-GIFT/202186371768?epid=927202983&hash=item2f133f32b8:g:rgUAAOSwEWdZzjRe
Very helpful video, thanks. I have a question, my aftermarket dab is getting interference even tho I have used the filter. I know nothing about electrics, would adding another filter make any difference at all?
Although a lot of Mercedes cars have a small fuse box near the end of the dash most of the time these are not ignition switched and so you would need to use the rear fuse box and run a power cable the length of the car, other than that the principle is pretty much the same.
hi. great video. one question, if i have a spare fuse location in fuse box, could i use that as long as it powers when ignition is on? or doi have to use one where there already is a fuse? cheers
If the spare slot has both inserts showing metal then you could end up bridging a circuit that is meant for a high spec model and so could either throw a fault code or a warning light on the dashboard. However if the spare fuse slot only has one out of the two inserts with metal and is a switched circuit you should be fine to use it. Just make 100% sure it's either spare or a unused accessory fuse slot.
thanks. when you selected the 3A fuse to use for the dash cam power, what rated fuse was in the fuse 'splitter' ? ive bought a splitter but it hasnt come with a fuse so will have to buy one to go with the 3A. cheers mate
ok - ive now got a fuse spur with a 10A mini blade fuse in - but was wondering if i can just plug it into a blank socket on the fuse board - instead of removing an existing fuse. would that work???
Thank you for this video. very much appreciated. i was going to get this installed by my local garage for who quoted me £110. after watching this installed it my self in 5 minutes lol. Thanks to you.
£110. Someone said they would do it for £45.
Just fitted my dashcam today in my 2013 corsa, after watching your video. It was easy to do and only took me 20mins to do. Thanks.
Hey Chris did you remove the same fuse to do your Corsa. And what.make.and.model was it?
Got a dashcam at Christmas and this video really helped, I was able to order the correct cable and the best connections I needed. Installed the cam myself in 15 mins , thanks very much
Great guide, thank you. Very simple, straightforward, and easy to understand. Made fitting my camera a breeze.
Thanks for posting. Just got a Corsa and was thinking of routing the cable a longer way round so this helped make things easier and tidier.
Great video, really easy to follow and made the fitting of my sons cam a simple 20min job. Many thanks.
Great Video. Made fitting so easy. Took no more than 30 mins from start to finish. Many thanks.
Thanks again, used the 3Amp and it worked perfectly. Only left do is to cable tie. I was using velcro but realised it could be a fire hazards so using electrical tape and cable ties. Thanks again.
Very helpful, thank you so much! Great tip with cable ties to stop wire dropping from the headlining.
Excellent video. Thanks so much for making it.
gonna install a dash cam on my corsa, really helpful and thorough, thanks
Thanks for the tutorial I just used an ordinary socket on the star shaped earth bolt thing worked a treat . Made it easy thanks
Useful video, I was worried about fitting my DashCam especially finding an earth but this video really helps, thanks
Wow - fantastic video. I'll be doing this for my son.
What a clever idea to put zip ties so the cable doesn't fall out. Great advice. Thank you very much
He certainly is a clever sausage
Great video but why would you connect to a switched fuse?. I’ve installed a nextbase 522 in my vehicle plus a rear camera connected to a permanent supply which means the cameras are working night and day to record anyone damaging my vehicle while parked etc.
Because not everyone wants to have their dashcam in their car all the time as it invites thievery.
Great vid, about to fit the same camera to my son’s Corsa.
Thanks for that just installed a 322GW on a 2014 Corsa.
Great information, 👍 Thank you .
Thanks! Your video made it super simple!
Thank you for the video, just what I was after.
1 question though. How long after switching off the car will the camera record for? I wanted mine hardwired so that it records and then cut off before the car battery goes flat

Correct, just insert exactly as shown in the video for it to be the right way around.
Good video but can you explain re earth cable fitting to hex. bolt...at 8min 31 there seems to be some sort of plastic bracket blocking access to bolt, video cuts then resumes with earth cable connected to bolt at 8min 35 and the bracket blocking bolt is no longer there..did you have to completely remove it to access hex. bolt?]
brilliant guide made it so easy..
hi nice tip. i have vauxhall corsa 2017 model. i do not know where to earth. i cannot find any small bolts to attaced to that.
i going to use cigarette lighter fuse but it is 30amp fuse is that ok? please help me
Great video ,did you make one on how to fit a reversing camera to a Vauxhall Corsa 2009?
Great video. My camera has functionality to be able to operate when the engine is off and parked. The fuse you suggested is only live when the ignition is on. Which fuse should i use instead?
@@InkMonster1993 Anything that is consistent live such as the central locking fuse.
@@PJsprojects thanks, I'll give it a go!

What about the airbag in the a-pillar? Do you need to disconnect the battery?
Great instructional video.

There’s so many unintentionally bad ‘how to’s’ out there, it’s good to see one done properly.
I’m looking for a small size dash cam…any recommendations in the budget range?
Thanks very much.
Next base 222 is cheap and does the job well.
Hi great stuff ,many thanks.
Will the 3amp work for fitting a multi media screen and wiring a connection ?
Hi mate great vid, could I still use the 3amp fuse socket that you used as I don't have a heated steering wheel anyway, and then add a 10 amp fuse spur for my aftermarket headunit?
How would you install the rear camera? As my kit has a dash and rear camera
Struggling to ground it to the bolt shown in the video, are there any other ones nearby that maybe easier to access? Cheers
Where do you ground the multi-meter inside the car when testing the fuse voltage?
Good video, very well explained.I have a 2013 plate Corsa and would like to fit a dashcam.Just one point..Don't you lose the time and date everytime you switch off if the camera doesn't have a permanent live supply to it? No most have a power cell inside that charges up.
Brilliant I didn't know that.

Yes would be fine.
Hi which fuse is live for pernanet dashcam recording please
Great video mate. At 10:12 when your showing the voltage, you have one multimeter connector on the fuse, where are you putting the second wire?
The black wire from the multimeter goes to a chassis earth on the car, same place as you earthed the dash cam to.

Yes it should be powered even without the heated wheel.
I have a 2015 Vauxhall mokka and am fitting a front and rear dash cam. Would this be a similar setup as shown in this video
Middle or rear window is best for view and also most(but not all) cameras are not waterproof so the damp would wreck the lens very quickly.
Don't suppose you've done a late model Transit? Mk8. Buying one soon and want to hardwire the Nextbase.
Just done wife's Corsa, 15 mins, job done. Cheers
i have a zafira B and the fuse box is under the bonnet so how do i get mine connected?
Hi great video. It's made me feel I can do the install myself. One thing I'd like to know before I do is, I'm wanting to use the parking mode on my Nextbase 612. Is there an always live fuse to tap into ? For dash cams with parking guard?

On a Combo C I would route a fused supply from the under bonnet fuse box, however if this is something you don't want to tackle then maybe use the power feed to the heater switch panel as this is only live when the ignition is on. To do this you need to test it with a meter but most have a thick red wire on a long slim five cable plug that is the switched one.
My hardwire kit didnt come with a fuse adapter. Where did you get yours from?
The fuse spur is available from Ebay, Amazon or most car shops.
PJs projects can i take from the same port as you?its the heating steering wheel and my model doesn't have one,and one last question,it will be a problem if the splitter get in fuse in the wrong orrientation?thanks a lot for your time
Thanks, very helpful.
I only want it on when ignition is on (no parking mode). Do I blank off the 'Batt' wire or splice it with the 'Acc' wire ?
If the cam has the option to switch off parking mode then wire it up to batt and acc accordingly.

Hi great video.Unfortunately a fuse box in a Peugeot 208/2008 is very difficult to get to.Is there any way around this? Cheers
Steve
The fuse boxes are a bit a bind to access but it is the correct way of doing things. Not something I would recommend but you could check to see if your cig lighter socket is switched live and if so tap a power feed from that,be aware I class this as a bodge however.
Thanks for replying.I wouldn't want to bodge it.Might be best to let my local Peugeot dealer do it for me.It is shame though.
Steve
Thanks so much, I have the 2009 corsa with the same exact fuse layout and it was very easy to follow. Question, so the earth U ring, you said your were going to chop it off and put a O ring which I am thinking f doing for more stability. When you were attaching it, did you just crimp it on, or just used electrical tape. Thanks again.
Crimped it on and then wrapped the end in self amalgamating tape.
You could go with the fuse that powers the 12v socket,on that year it should be ignition switched and your hand book will list which fuse it is.
Can you shoe me which fuse is for what I have Vauxhall corsa D 2007 I want to know which fuse is for which part eg electric window interior light etc
Full fuse list is in your owners manual or I used Google to find this diagram with list. www.autogenius.info/vauxhall-corsa-d-fuse-box/
fits better if you take the glove box out
How will I hard wire dash cam, with parking mode in Astra H 2006 as fuse box is in the rear inside boot.
Hi.
Yes it will work fine for your stereo.
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-X-Mini-Blade-Spur-Add-a-Circuit-Fuse-Tap-Piggy-Back-Blade-Fuse-Holder-12-24-/252882363950?hash=item3ae0f6a62e:g:oHQAAOSwOVpXfScg
what amp fuse should i use in the fuse holder for the kenwood car stereo???
thanks for your help mate.
A red 10amp will be fine.
thanks!!!
I was just wondering which fuse is for the lighter in the car ?
Depends on a couple of things with this model, what region, right or left and drive and what trim level the car has. Your owners manual will have a list showing what each fuse is for.If you don't have a owners manual you could either phone a main dealer or reply here with the car details.
Might this be applied to a SatNav as well..?
Yes very much so,some sat navs with built in traffic updates require the original power cable to be used and so you would need this type of thing - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V15A-FEMALE-CIGAR-LIGHTER-SOCKET-PIGGY-BACK-MINI-BLADE-FUSE-HARD-WIRE-GIFT/202186371768?epid=927202983&hash=item2f133f32b8:g:rgUAAOSwEWdZzjRe
Thank you veryy much!
Very helpful video, thanks. I have a question, my aftermarket dab is getting interference even tho I have used the filter. I know nothing about electrics, would adding another filter make any difference at all?
Sadly this is pretty common and adding another filter won't help.
@@PJsprojects ok, thanks for the reply
Great video! Is the setup the same for a Vauxhall Corsavan 2010? Cheers Gav
Yep same design.
@@PJsprojects thanks buddy 👍🏼
how hard would this be to do on a mercedes c220 coupe? 2014
Although a lot of Mercedes cars have a small fuse box near the end of the dash most of the time these are not ignition switched and so you would need to use the rear fuse box and run a power cable the length of the car, other than that the principle is pretty much the same.
Great video :) thank you!
hi. great video. one question, if i have a spare fuse location in fuse box, could i use that as long as it powers when ignition is on? or doi have to use one where there already is a fuse?
Just make 100% sure it's either spare or a unused accessory fuse slot.
thanks. when you selected the 3A fuse to use for the dash cam power, what rated fuse was in the fuse 'splitter' ? ive bought a splitter but it hasnt come with a fuse so will have to buy one to go with the 3A. cheers mate
Use a 2amp,most cams are only 300ma so no need for any higher.
Hi there which dash cam are using please
The dash cam in this video is made by Next Base - www.nextbase.co.uk/
Great video
ok - ive now got a fuse spur with a 10A mini blade fuse in - but was wondering if i can just plug it into a blank socket on the fuse board - instead of removing an existing fuse.
would that work???
Best to use one already in use, reason is the ecu might try and read another electrical item that the car is not fitted with.
Sadly I could get it to work. Did everything you said. But no joy
Rear dash am
