Oh yeah without a doubt he is the Bob Ross of Doom! Your so fucking right. The whole time I was watching u was like who is this cat like, then I read your comment and the planets alligned to thank you for that!!!
I’d tune atleast to Bflat. Gotta match string gauge correctly too. If you want that low warble you gotta have a little less tension in your strings and tuning low absolutely helps. For example Conan sound devastatingly heavy especially for a three piece and they tune to G. Just imagine they try to play in C? Not happening!!! Imagine Jerusalem/Dopesmoker in A440, it ain’t happening.
I've heard records in Drop D that were so tight, deliberate, and energetic that I thought theyr'e a few steps down at least. Skill is a must. But without the gear you go nowhere either.
I'll get your point , but when using a lot of gain a low wattage amp can't handel the pedals well ...... and then you need 100watts or more... ;-) greetz from Belgium!
Yeah to get the volume though I’m assuming it’s a class a being a lower wattage. This means all power tubes are firing at all times and in turn running through tubes(burning the out)at a very high rate. Where if you go with class B they alternate firing sequence and in that case there is only a few decibel difference between a 50w and a 100w. Like dude in this video says though “always go for the hundred watt” of the price difference is reasonable to you because it might not be a ton more volume but certainly much more head room. Need a lot more volume get a slave head!!!! But yeah you aren’t aren’t gonna find a 40 watt (which is usually cut off for class A wattage and even theN A bit too much. 30 would be better) That’s gonna keep up with a Marshall 100watt unless it is classA
They are killer amps. Dare I say that amp is the ultimate all around best British amp ever made. Love my plexis, and Laney super groups, and Matamp, but for the big stack sound that DR103 sits on the throne!
Loudest rigg I have is two Sunn O))) concert bass heads, split the signal so one powers a Sunn O))) BH 2x15 the other powers a Sunn O))) 4x10. Fuzz pedal is a Black Arts Toneworks destroyer with the oath channel on. My bass is a 1979 Kramer DMZ5000.
Loudest rig I’ve played through is my current one, JC-120 & Beta Lead (410 combo). Tears paint off walls and is still incredibly articulate. Thanks for the vid!
Holy shit. I just found this video and it completely changed how my mind works regarding amps. Seeing as I am going to start playing rhythm guitar in my doom/stoner/sludge band, this helps my picking out what I need for an amp. Thanks!
Right now my amp setup is a 100watt handwired Marshall plexi through an Orange 2x12. I really dig the sound of Marshalls through Orange cabs. This is a great gear talk; I’m really happy I ended up with a 100watt amp.
I've had an early 70's sunn 190L for a couple years that's roughly 60-70 watts. I still haven't gotten it past 4 in a rehearsal space. Even at that volume, through an acapulco gold pedal, it was vibrating my body at a cellular level!
"why not 200 watts amp?" YOU SON A FUZZ! i had a 50 watt jet city and it was a killer amp, probably a 100 watt would be ever better, but now i have a laney aor pro tube 100 and it's loud AF, and most important, it doesn't clip the sound even with a very high volume. These videos are gold..keep it up!
Hahhahhaha thanks Stefano! Laney AOR100, awesome man! I really wish Laney would just re make that line of amps, great dirty tone if you want it and like you said doesn't clip at high volumes. Cheers, Jason
My loudest rig is my present one : One Traynor YGL-3A(head) through a 2x15 cab plus another YGL-3 2x12 combo. The YGL-3 is kindof a twin on steroids running el-34s and master volume. That moves quite a bit of air.
Hi it's Alex from SC Jason! I really enjoy these videos. I so wish I had things like this to watch back when I was first starting out. I've let a lot of cool amps and pedals go over time just because I didn't know how to use them or get the best out of them. Both SS and tube are excellent with the right ohm rating and in the right musical context.
Also, the loudest setup I've ever heard was from a band called Power Takeoff. Guitarist was using old Sunn heads going through a few old Sunn 4x12s and a 6x12 (I think) and bass player had an ungodly loud diy Frankensteined out tube bass head on an 8x10. Ultra loud but still able to tell what was happening. Second is probably when I saw Cough in Indiana. Super loud but kinda muddy.
Thanks for watching man! Was hoping you would add in some stuff from your recent chats with the legendary tech we talked about. Seems running the solid state amps with a little higher impedance rated cab than the lowest possible to keep them from working so hard is a great point. I think the loudest amp you likely have heard is YOU hahahahha with your 3 amp rig in your band! Cheers man, digging the Coffin Torture record. ~Jason
I have an old HiWatt DR504 and a DR103 and have to say, there’s really little in it volume-wise, but it’s the headroom that’s makes the difference when both are cranked. People get confused between volume and headroom. Those two heads stand up together well in combination and can both push big cabs, but are different on their own. Both respond pretty much the same to pedals.
I’ve only ever relied upon a Sovtek MIG-50, but a friend of mine helped me turn it into a master volume amp. That and running the speakers in series moves plenty of air. It’s always been, for my playing at least, plenty loud. As a comparison, I finally got to try out a MIG-100 a few years ago. In my opinion, with the modifications, they were at least comparable. Ona side note: Not getting lost in the mix seemed to have more to do with the compression of my signal than, say, overall volume. A compressor pedal ironically solved a lot of my guitar’s, “washing out,” in a band mix.
You know what Dooms/Drones really well? This purple 10 watt Hannah Montana amp! Hahahahaha! I mainly play at lower volumes (due to living situation) but I’m hoping to do some soundproofing very soon!
I'm still very new to the doom style, but these points apply equally to other genres. I think the headroom point is especially important, and terrifyingly simple to understand in a band context. You want to play with a drummer? Then you need to be loud enough to be heard over drums. That's a volume problem. And if you want clean tones at that volume: then you have a headroom problem.
I'm late to the party but my current biamp bass rig is the loudest I've played. Hartke LH500 with a HD115 and HD210 for (klone boosted) cleans paired with a Markbass LMT800 and 104HF with all my dirt. I tend to keep the MB at a pretty low gain level and boost it up with a Gremlin $y$tem Collapse (Dual RAT) and Ceremonial Sunn preamp (Model T). I have people thinking they're in for a jazz show until I boost the Ceremonial with the other half of the RAT and start playing in drop C. Did I mention I play short scales? My Rumblekat is a beast! 😬🤷♂️
Love the video and all the information you put out. My current rig for my Doom band Vedma is an old JCM 900 SL-X that i had modified, it has mercury transformers, different tubes and they changed the choke? sorry if i can't be more technical on it, i told the amp guy what i wanted it to do and that's what he did with it. He said its basically a boutique amp at this point. I play through a Mes/Boogie cab with green backs and also a Marshal 1960 , Not the perfect rig, but i played with everything enough to where I have a pretty good tone out of it. Oh, and yes, it's VERY loud lol
Great info. I've played every brand amp known to man, and for me personally it comes down to pedals, whether 50 or 100 watts. In the last 10 years I've played a '68 Fender Deluxe Reverb, then a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier through a 4x12 cab. Now I'm running a Blackstar Artist 15 1x12 tube combo amp through an Ampeg 4x12 Celestion cabinet and a full 14 pedal pedalboard. Best tone I've ever gotten! I can go from Tom Petty to Matt Pike in 2 stomps!
Agree on the CR120, I think it takes pedals pretty well on the clean channel with the gain almost cranked. I recently got a Laney GH100L for almost nothing. Pretty happy with it, it's kind of bright but nothing a little EQ and mic placement won't fix.
Rick Heafner nice bugera gets alot of hate but I think their amps are pretty damn good especially for people who can't afford to drop a couple grand for an all tube amp.
The loudest amps I’ve played through/owned are late-70s Peavey bass amps. I used to have a TNT130 combo amp rated at 130 watts. With the volume on 2, I could shake the walls of my house. I should note that it also has a broken speaker. My friend now owns it. My current amp is a Carvin 210 cab with a 200 watt 1982 Peavey Bass 400. That thing has some EXTREME volume. That amp through the first channel with a DOD Grunge is guitar tone perfection. Peavey really underrated their power handlings on their old amps. Greetings from Spartanburg, SC.
Just found your channel Jason, I’m loving the videos so far. My current setup is a 215 with Eminence big bens and an Ampeg Portaflex 500. It’s really loud and the mid control is very intuitive. With my Pharaoh pedal it’s just crushes. I’m going to check out your pedals as well, thanks for reading!
Thank you for watching! 2x15 setups have always been one of my favorite styles of cabs. The Pharaoh pedal sure seems to be a favorite in the doom scene. Cheers, Jason
loudest for me was a sovtek mig 100 thru an acoustic 4x12 at the same time as a sound city 120r going into a sunn 2x15. my own personal sunn concert whenever i wanted. using an old 100 watt solid state yamaha 2x10 now and its well loud enough for jamming, writing, and recording.
My setup is a Peavey Mace VT through an oversized 2x12 and a 2x10 bass cab. 6 6l6 tubes cranking 160 watts of crazy power. Beautiful cleans and massive headroom. The oversized cab and bass cab gives it some nice rumble (and lighter to handle).
Loudest rig I've played through (yet..;)) was an Ashdown Head of Doom going into an Ashdown 8x10 stack.. if only I owned it. Currently saving up to purchase the head, sounds incredible. Keep up the great content!
My current rig! 7 string Halo BH in A#-> Boss HM-2 with the highs rolled off a bit (for texture)-> Boss MT-2 (as a pre-amp, gain on 0,5, lots of mids)-> Random solid state power amp-> Custom 4x12 with Jensen C12Ks. Sounds soul crushing. >;(
Lynnwood, WA 2 PEAVEY VTM 120 MILLS Custom 100 Marshall JCM 900 SLX 100W The four amps together give a real solid mid body punch. I run the amps with the volume maxed and attenuate with the Preamp volume or tone controls.
Loudest rig I’ve ever heard was High on fire, Matt had matz cabs from Jeff, but at home I run a laney into a sunn 1x15 and a orange 2x12 with some earthquaker effects, hoof n Acapulco. Is the loudest rig I’ve ever owned.
Currently have a Cr120. I really like how you can push the clean channel on it. Just ordered the Mig 50 reissue. I've never really had a super loud amp. I bought a Hotrod Deville 4x10 when they came out. I guess that.
I love my Princeton and 4x10 deville stereo rig trying to figure out how to get the pushed low wattage raunchy and have my deville for the ditto bc the loops won't push the headroom
Loudest rig I ever played through was my brother's. He has one of those Mooer micro pedals with built-in cab simulation and runs it through a 400 Watt (RMS) active PA box. That Thing was rattling the beer bottles off the table in the other room.
I consider Fleetwood Mac's original version of, "The Green Manalishi", to be the first, proto-Doom track. The slow, tribal rhythm; along with the guitar solos, and Peter Green's vocal wailing towards the end of the song. 😎🤘🔥🔥🔥
I used to run a Peavey JSX (120w), Triple X (120w) with 4x12 cab each, then a Marshall 8080 power amp through two 2x12s for my delays. That was plenty loud :D Sometimes I wish I still had that rig!
I use a Peavey ValveKing 100w head. It doesn't have a reputation as a doom amp, but it does a beautiful Fender-ish clean and takes pedals really well. And through two 4x12 cabs, it's more than loud enough for the bar gigs I play.
oh man... a handful of years back I got a JMP 100 watt 2203. It had 4 speaker outputs and the guys in my band thought it would be a good idea to load 4 4x12's into a small basement for a hardcore punk show. It was ridiculous, loud, and amazing!
Nice show. Easy to listen to and not get bored. I have probably played through well over 100 different amplifiers and the loudest amp I've ever played through was a Hiwatt 100 DR103. the loudest amp I've owned was a mid to late 80's Carvin x100b.
I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm and gear geek (who isn't today). ;) It started for me with a documentary from years ago called Fuzz. You have a chill demeanor like a Doom Robert Keeley. lol Love the content bro! Keep it up!
@@FuzzlordEffects I bought it when it first released and it took till this very week for me to buy a diy Fuzz Pedal kit to assemble! It's suppose to arrive Thursday! Yay!
Loudest rig I ever owned was a MESA Boogie Mark III 100 watt slaved out to a Marshall JCM800 100 watt going through 4 4x12 Marshall cabinets. Dangerously loud and I ran no distortion or fuzz pedals through it. The only pedal that I used was a Boss T WAH for leads plus the MESA Lead channel footswitch. I'll never forget sound checking with it and one young fan asked me if I "thought I had enough crunch" ...lol
Kalamazoo model 1 with a kill switch wired into it to shut the speaker off, ran into a Marshall 100 watt valve state ran into a 1960 4x12 and an Ampeg 2x12 bass cabinet.
Aims Eclipsor and Producer can still be had for relatively cheap and loud as all hell if you’re patient to find one. Has a master volume that does a decent Foghat impression. And it’s got that 70’s doomishgoatwizardwitchlord look to it.
Ampeg 6x10 with a ampeg B5R head A/B box with 4X12 with eminence governors and a orange crush pro 120 head. Used a nine of swords tyrant pedal and a sf300. Guitar was my esp ec1000 with dirty heshers
Dude, awesome video. Really explains things well for those of us that don't know all of the tech behind the equipment, but just love to play loud and low. 🤘
Peavey Roadmaster through a 412 folded horn cab with scorpion speakers. Not only loud but harmonic, hard to explain. It is so loud it creates a natural chorus effect. Have to be in the room to appreciate it
@@FuzzlordEffects I'll set it up in a couple weeks piss off the neighborhood again. Like you said in the video I like the feel of the sound. If I can still hear the acoustic twang of my guitar strings when I strum it's just not acceptable.
I used to have a 1973 Traynor YB-18 cab, original Rola Era Celestion G18-C 100w 18" Greenback. Absolutely back breaking. I unscrew the head from my Orange Crush Pro 60 combo, put it on top and that was my gigging bass rig. Was punishingly loud when cranked.
I know I'm dredging up an old vid but just watching loads on the Fuzzlord Channel while I wait for the FU2's to come on the web shop! My loudest setup is my current one. Vintage early 70's Simms Watts P.A. 100 MKII into 2 Laney Celestion G12M-70 4x12 cabs. I was using HH IC100s before and never got the sound I wanted. I've had the Simms watts for years but it needed some serious attention, I took it to a local expert and its never been more reliable. The thing is a monster! It says 100 watts but my repair guy said he stopped turning it up after he hit 150w output! the only issue is if I use my baritone Tele through my usual pedalboard I get a bit of a flappy sound that I think is the cones. I know the ultimate answer is 15" cones but any ideas?
I used the Orange CR120 and now the Super Crush 100. All my sounds come from pedals so all I need is a decent clean sound for a few parts, and then for that channel to have enough headroom to stay clean when it gets loud enough to compete with out drummer, which it does. Plus it's light enough to just throw in the back of my car with my guitar and pedalboard to take to rehearsal.
Loudest rig I have ever played guitar through was a Peavey Combo 300 1x15. Peavey Power is where it's at for Doom or Sludge, especially the 70's bass rigs and amps like the VTM
My loudest setup which I’ve played loudly was Engl E530+VHT 2902+Marshall 1960. When compared to JCM800 2203 which I had before, the VHT sounded deeper and bigger. My current setup is slightly more allrounder. Same preamp going to Rocktron Velocity 300. A channel from poweramp goes to Engl 212 pro and B to Torpedo Live. 2x75 W setup which works well in home, studio and playing with band. There is possibility to get 300 watts output if channels are bridged and used with 8 ohm load. Engl or rack stuff might not be the first pick for doomy sounds but I love my setup for all kinds of tones.
Maine. guitar, baritone, or bass... Terror Bass 500w head run into 2 cabs: 4x10 (Ashdown cab, respeakered... forget brand, super heavy mags) 4x12 (basement reclaim (Conifer) slant top filled with 3 12s from an Ibanez 412, and one random Jensen... Threw it in out of curiosity when an Ibanez got squizzy, loved it. Kept it.) Clean that could kill a cat. Fuzz that could down a Cessna.
A line 6 flextone through a full stack. Shakes the decorations off the top of the amp. But soon once my Peavey Musician is out of the shop it will be the loudest by far pumping through my 8x10 bass cab
Loudest amp setup I've ever played through is my Sunn 4x12L, two Sunn 2x12 PA speakers, and my 200w Sunn SX4150 head. Run that with an Abominable Electronics Hail Cannabis, behringer delay, and a Jerry Cantrell Cry Baby.
Loudest amp I’ve played through was a Sunn Beta Lead into a 412 at my local guitar shop, they were just testing out the speakers and the amp since they came in used and let me play through it briefly
I'm in the 2 head camp, a 50w I use for headroom, and that's plenty as I'm not too heavy on effects, and an 18w plexi I built myself ( it's power scaling too) so that one I can push into output distortion. I can also play that one at home as it's able to be dropped right down to 0.1w..... which means I can get decent bedroom volumes. Should the 18w need a bit more volume, rarely as most venues I'm already running loud at 18w, I can mic the cab and go through the PA.
The loudest set up I’ve ever played is my long time current rig. I run a 150 watt Crate Powerblock head through a 1 x 15” bass cab. It’s loud as fuck!!! Love the videos, keep it up!!!
Peavey Windsor and Valveking are both 100w tube amps for around $200-$250. Valveking II is $300 range. I have a Windsor and a Valveking II and they're great, especially for the money. I set those up in a stereo rig with a 4x12 guitar cab and a 4x10 bass cab. To conveniently segue, that is the loudest setup I've ever played.
current rig (of last 4 yrs) - 2 emperor 6x12 cabs loaded with G12M-70s each powered by a laney 6 knob aor 100 MV and 2 ross 4x12 cabs loaded with FANES powered by a HIWATT DR504(hylight). three heads, twenty twelves, no pedals. incredible tone at very high volumes. lotta money went into getting precisely what i wanted.
Loudest rig I've played throush is my own Blackstar Series One 100. But it has power scaling that makes it good for home use. I think you need the "girth" of a 4-tube 100W power section - even if you're not turning it up, it just has more depth.
Greetings from Van Isle again Jason. The loudest amp I have played through (my current amp) is a '71 Traynor YBA-1 with a PPIMV mod. It's 40 Watts of devastating loudness.
Loudest setup: Sunn model t + hiwatt 412 (left) sunn 2000s + matamp like 412 (right) hiwatt custom 100 + Marshall 1960 412 from 1982 (center) Fuzzrocious rat + colorsound boost clone + dod meatbox Enrico from Oslo
Cheers Jason, greetings from Germany. The loudest amp setup I have ever played through personally is a rotten modded ENGl Straight from 1985, measured at 136 Watts, played through a Kitty Hawk Box loaded with Celestions (?)( I think) run as 2x12, I played the ENGl through an ENGL V30 2x12 Box and it sounded too harsh (both at 8 ohms). I must admit that I cannot run the Master Volume all up in a band context, so I back it off a little. The amp has a Hi-Mid- Boost built in before the power section and a Presence Poti. I use primarily hot Pickups (Lace DropnGain (Neck!), Tone Zones.....) in Bridge and clear and fitting neck pickups wired to my needs. "Tone"wood is primarily basswood, those are just modded cheapos for guitars. Also I do not use the full gain of the preamp section. I guess it sll a matter of what you have, how you use it and how you setup the signal chain and the wiring of your guitars. I trust my ears in that regard. Very little extra effects I use, a little Chorus, Vibe and of course the reverb of the amp. Im̀ good, btw. Keep it up!
I think my current rig is loudest so far, it’s a two head three caps set up... only because cant find fourth Laney Klipp 4X12 cap anywhere. So Laney Klipp 100w head is goin to two Laney Klipp 4X12 16ohm caps (greenbacks) and second head is a Laney Supergroup mk1 100w and this goes to single Laney Klipp 4X12 (V30&G12H-100). Did do a couple warmup gigs for High on Fire and got to use Matts caps and that was plenty loud too😁
That is the point. With a hi-wattage amp you can set it up clean at bigger volumes. Then you can add the muff you want and it doesn't sound messy at all. With 120W you can get all your nasty dirtiness to be heard in the most "clean" way, if you know what I mean. Long live Sabbath.
Loudest i've done was max out an old Valvestate 8100 on the OD2 channel full gain with a 16 ohm cab playing Desert Cruiser by Truckfighters in a rehearsal room that had one of those plate ceilings and you could hear everyone of them rumble. Finally taught that drummer who's boss hehehehe. Love that amp for Doom and Stoner stuff, it's a pretty descent BluesRock amp too on the clean channel with the gain at breaking point but it really does shine in Stoner Rock, between the OD1 and OD2 there's pretty much enough tonal options to cover a range of bands in that genre.
Oh the feeling of showing a drummer who's boss! The only thing better is when they ask if there are any earplugs around haha. Sounds like a killer rig. Thanks for watching, Jason
Shamed to admit that I don't have a super loud setup for my doom stuff, but it's a stereo bassbreaker 7w and mesa ta-15. It's the loudest I've been able to get at home! I'm in the road for a Brent Hinds terror right now, to run in stereo with the bassbreaker (or maybe a sunn sentura..) and a DOD Carcosa right in the front end. Id love to get higher wattage amps, but living situation doesn't permit...yet!
Totally understandable! I recently moved and now have the same 2 4x12s and two tube heads sitting in my living room unplayed haha! As long as you are playing music and having fun, that is all that matters! Jason
Loudest setup: 100w Matamp GT1 (2017) in NMV mode into a PPC412. It frightens me a bit, as a homeowner, because it literally shakes everything. Wall hangings go completely askew, shit falls off tables, windows rattle, and who knows what it's doing to the frame, drywall, and grout/sealant fixtures. When I had a 50w GT2 I was _never_ able to turn it up past 9 o'clock on the master at a show. Now that I have a house... I don't want to play out anymore. Ever. Sound guys are wimps. My two cats are cooler about volume than they are (generally speaking). Anyway, thanks for doing this! The doom community has long been underserved on TH-cam. \m/
Stephen O' Malley from Sunn O))) said he can easily achieve 126db with a Sunn Model-T and two 4x12 cabs with the Master Volume around half. I believe him. I got loaned a Model-T for some gigs when I visited The Netherlands years ago & just used whatever 4x12s the venues had. We played The Grasshopper in Amsterdam, back when it was smaller, & they had a couple of 4x12s, plugged into both for practice, sound checks etc., we had complaints from outside and a couple of bars and cafes away, it was silly loud and I was around half way on the master volume. So, I had to turn down abit for the gig, still loud though. Great rig! Sadly, they're next to impossible to get a hold of here in the UK and crazy expensive if you can get one shipped from the US. However, there's at least three places you can get one from on the continent but I know a company here in the UK that will build me a 1st gen. Sunn Model-T replica complete with Mercury Magnetics for a really good price.
. .this dude just described the nature of doom metal on amps like bob ross describes colors and paints. Amazing 👏🏼
🖤
Oh yeah without a doubt he is the Bob Ross of Doom! Your so fucking right. The whole time I was watching u was like who is this cat like, then I read your comment and the planets alligned to thank you for that!!!
Loudest rig I've ever heard was your leather jacket.
Hahhaahaha raw sauce.
Cheers,
Jason
Haha I was thinking the same!
People think sounding heavy is all about tuning down I think it's about how you lock in with the bass: great videos by the way really helpful thanks
Bedemon'last release was crushing...and it's in standard pitch.
That's real.
Just do both
I’d tune atleast to Bflat. Gotta match string gauge correctly too. If you want that low warble you gotta have a little less tension in your strings and tuning low absolutely helps. For example Conan sound devastatingly heavy especially for a three piece and they tune to G. Just imagine they try to play in C? Not happening!!! I've heard records in Drop D that were so tight, deliberate, and energetic that I thought theyr'e a few steps down at least. Skill is a must. But without the gear you go nowhere either.
Bro 100 watts is not always my go to sometimes a pushed low wattage amp is rad for a grimy clean tone
I'll get your point , but when using a lot of gain a low wattage amp can't handel the pedals well ...... and then you need 100watts or more... ;-) greetz from Belgium!
At 4:00 he addresses this directly. Different strokes for different folks (or gigs).
LowMad Punks we need more fries from belgium
bigger amps are better mainly because of the bigger transformers
I realize this video is 3 years old but I’ll chime it. Loudest amp I’ve ever played through was my 1979 Hiwatt DR103 with KT88s. Unreal power!
You are like the mr rogers of doom metal.
Like the way you explain headroom made me feel like I finally understood it
I am glad this video was helpful Ben and thanks for watching!
i know your doppleganger, man. he's a priest, he even has a similar voice to yours, holy crap
You gotta send a photo haha!!
Loudest rig I’ve played through is my current one, JC-120 & Beta Lead (410 combo). Tears paint off walls and is still incredibly articulate. Thanks for the vid!
The CR120 is awesome. I think it takes pedals fairly well but it's my first and only amp so I don't think I can say much about it but I like it!
i have always wondered about headroom with the solid states as well for something like doom.
Holy shit. I just found this video and it completely changed how my mind works regarding amps. Seeing as I am going to start playing rhythm guitar in my doom/stoner/sludge band, this helps my picking out what I need for an amp. Thanks!
so happy it was helpful!
I play through an orange ad140 into a full stack & sometimes make it stereo by adding my sunn coliseum 300. Gets pretty loud 👍🏼👍🏼
I Bet it does!!!! Holy crap LoL!!!!! Hahahaha that’s doomy as fuck
Right now my amp setup is a 100watt handwired Marshall plexi through an Orange 2x12. I really dig the sound of Marshalls through Orange cabs. This is a great gear talk; I’m really happy I ended up with a 100watt amp.
That is a badass rig cheers!
Fuzzlord Effects Thanks!
I've had an early 70's sunn 190L for a couple years that's roughly 60-70 watts. I still haven't gotten it past 4 in a rehearsal space. Even at that volume, through an acapulco gold pedal, it was vibrating my body at a cellular level!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Full agree with the clean sound idea... set it up just like you said!
It took me and Troy weeks to figure this one out at high volume lol!
Cheers Derek!
Jason
I play through an Orange Thunderverb 200, LOVE IT!
The loudest rig I have ever played was a Verellen Meatsmoke with a Sunn 4x12 and a Peavey 2x15
Cheers,
Jason
@@FuzzlordEffects i totally agree with you! Cheers from italy!
My loudest rig is my present one : One Traynor YGL-3A(head) through a 2x15 cab plus another YGL-3 2x12 combo. The YGL-3 is kindof a twin on steroids running el-34s and master volume. That moves quite a bit of air.
brutal!
Great point!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
You play doom AND drone with it? It’s the best of both worlds!
At home I use a Fender Pro JR with a Metal Muff.
My gigging amp is a CR120 that does the job with a few pedals.
Nice!
Rarely comment on youtube but man you just made so much shit make so much sense to me that never has before. Thanks from St. Louis
I really appreciate you watching and commenting and glad the video was helpful!
Sounds badass! How about a link to your band's page so we can all check out some badass tunes??
Cheers,
Jason
Great no-nonsense clip - much appreciated mate ;)
Thank you Jack! Will try to keep these style videos coming.
Cheers,
Jason
Very cool on the GH100L! I had one also and also remember it being very bright. Such good amps though and a great look.
Cheers,
Jason
Which would you go for the Laney or the Orange Crush Pro?
This is the most relaxing video I’ve ever watched, on one of my favorite topics. Thank you. I will be a Fuzz Lord customer soon.
My Loudest was a Bugera 1960 Plexi 150 watt through my Celestion loaded Peavey 4x12 cab(2-G12t75 & 2g12k85) Insanely loud.
Cheers,
Jason
loudest for me was a sovtek mig 100 thru an acoustic 4x12 at the same time as a sound city 120r going into a sunn 2x15. my own personal sunn concert whenever i wanted. using an old 100 watt solid state yamaha 2x10 now and its well loud enough for jamming, writing, and recording.
Nice!
I love this channel. Also the comment section is hilarious here. Love it.
hahahha cheers Richard!
marshall dsl 100 is the loudest amp ive ever played through. Im from Kentucky. Love the vids. keep them coming
Badass amps!
Yeah great but how would you dial it in for doom?
@@Dome4567 I use one on the clean channel with a DA120 Od, or a Rat or super fuzz.
As usual, clear and useful explanations -- and really fun!
ASHDOWN!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear about you getting it (: Will keep these style videos coming.
Cheers,
Jason
My current rig!
7 string Halo BH in A#-> Boss HM-2 with the highs rolled off a bit (for texture)-> Boss MT-2 (as a pre-amp, gain on 0,5, lots of mids)-> Random solid state power amp-> Custom 4x12 with Jensen C12Ks.
Sounds soul crushing. >;(
Lynnwood, WA
2 PEAVEY VTM 120
MILLS Custom 100
Marshall JCM 900 SLX 100W
The four amps together give a real solid mid body punch.
I run the amps with the volume maxed and attenuate with the Preamp volume or tone controls.
Thanks for watching and sharing! Cheers!
Stanwood WA! No fancy set up like yours but PNW doom represent!
@@bUwUmer1260 you can find me on Pedalboards of Actual Doom group on FB. Let's jam.

Hey I'm in Seattle where do you blast those fuckers ??
Loudest rig I’ve ever heard was High on fire, Matt had matz cabs from Jeff, but at home I run a laney into a sunn 1x15 and a orange 2x12 with some earthquaker effects, hoof n Acapulco. Is the loudest rig I’ve ever owned.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Cheers!
Currently have a Cr120. I really like how you can push the clean channel on it. Just ordered the Mig 50 reissue. I've never really had a super loud amp. I bought a Hotrod Deville 4x10 when they came out. I guess that.
I got a mig 50 over the summer. I love it but I'm thinking of changing the tubes to el34s.
Love the CR120! Great clean channel for sure. You'll have to let me know what you think of the Mig 50.
Cheers,
Jason
I love my Princeton and 4x10 deville stereo rig trying to figure out how to get the pushed low wattage raunchy and have my deville for the ditto bc the loops won't push the headroom
Loudest rig I ever played through was my brother's. He has one of those Mooer micro pedals with built-in cab simulation and runs it through a 400 Watt (RMS) active PA box. That Thing was rattling the beer bottles off the table in the other room.
That’s so rad!
"Some cool Fleetwood mac peter green stuff" hell yes.
That sounds like a wild rig!
Best explanation about headroom and volume perception between tube and ss amps. Great talk
Thank you Paulo, so glad this was helpful/accurate!
Jason
Merritt Island Florida, loudest was a Mesa Mark2b I used to have. My Doom rig is an Earth Sound Research G-2000 ( Dual Showman clone) through a 2x15.
15s just work so well for these low tunings! I will have to check out the Sound Research amp.
Cheers,
Jason
I use a Peavey ValveKing 100w head. It doesn't have a reputation as a doom amp, but it does a beautiful Fender-ish clean and takes pedals really well. And through two 4x12 cabs, it's more than loud enough for the bar gigs I play.
Nice!
oh man... a handful of years back I got a JMP 100 watt 2203. It had 4 speaker outputs and the guys in my band thought it would be a good idea to load 4 4x12's into a small basement for a hardcore punk show. It was ridiculous, loud, and amazing!
That sounds like an amazing idea to me! I bet you'll never forget that one man!
Jason
Recently I get a Sunn Concert lead II and is louder as hell. Love it 🔥 Great video, informative and interesting.
Keep it up!
Thanks Luke! I love that documentary, so many cool characters in the film. Might have to turn it on this evening and re watch it (:

Which one of your pedals most closely approximates the Psychedelic Rock sounds of Wooden Shjips ? Erik 'Ripley' Johnson uses the EHX Big Muff Pi.
Check out our MF-4, there are some great demos on TH-cam and on the website
That’s so badass!!!
Aims Eclipsor and Producer can still be had for relatively cheap and loud as all hell if you’re patient to find one. Has a master volume that does a decent Foghat impression. And it’s got that 70’s doomishgoatwizardwitchlord look to it.
I bought my CR120 as my first doom/stoner amp based on this video. Love it for the price! Thanks man!
Ampeg 6x10 with a ampeg B5R head A/B box with 4X12 with eminence governors and a orange crush pro 120 head. Used a nine of swords tyrant pedal and a sf300. Guitar was my esp ec1000 with dirty heshers
Thanks for watching and sharing! Cheers!
Have to be in the room to appreciate it
That sounds like a killer setup! I bet that folded horn can makes a cool live sound.
Cheers,
Jason
@@FuzzlordEffects I'll set it up in a couple weeks piss off the neighborhood again. Like you said in the video I like the feel of the sound. If I can still hear the acoustic twang of my guitar strings when I strum it's just not acceptable.
I used to have a 1973 Traynor YB-18 cab, original Rola Era Celestion G18-C 100w 18" Greenback. Absolutely back breaking. I unscrew the head from my Orange Crush Pro 60 combo, put it on top and that was my gigging bass rig. Was punishingly loud when cranked.
I used to have a Peavy 6505+ 100 watt head but I switched to a orange cr120 because the Peavy bass was to tight. I enjoy the sound of solid state
I know I'm dredging up an old vid but just watching loads on the Fuzzlord Channel while I wait for the FU2's to come on the web shop!
In the early 90s I had a 60s era New Zealand made amp with 2x KT88 output valves. It was an utter monster!
That sounds like a badass amp!
Hell yeah!
The loudest set up I ever played through was a Sunn Model T reissue through 2 4x12 cabs. For Bass: an acoustic control corp 320 and 408 (4x15) cab.
Terror Bass 500w head run into
2 cabs:
4x10 (Ashdown cab, respeakered... forget brand, super heavy mags)
4x12 (basement reclaim (Conifer) slant top filled with 3 12s from an Ibanez 412, and one random Jensen... Threw it in out of curiosity when an Ibanez got squizzy, loved it. Kept it.)
Clean that could kill a cat.
Fuzz that could down a Cessna.
Damn that’s a crazy setup!!!!!
Nice!
Nice! Thanks for watching.
man you need to UP that to a 4x15 cab with a 4x12 cab to add to that 150 watt crate!
Tea Jerk I’m actually working on that now brother!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Incredibly informative, great video! I keep hearing good things about the Orange CR120.
Thank you!
I used to play through a Peavey Windsor with a Sunn 215bh and a homebuilt extra large 2x12 cab.
Loudest rig I ever played is when I played my Fender Bassbreaker 45 and my Fender Evil Twin together, I played dem bonez and it was massive.
Sounds brutal!
To conveniently segue, that is the loudest setup I've ever played.
current rig (of last 4 yrs) - 2 emperor 6x12 cabs loaded with G12M-70s each powered by a laney 6 knob aor 100 MV and 2 ross 4x12 cabs loaded with FANES powered by a HIWATT DR504(hylight). three heads, twenty twelves, no pedals. incredible tone at very high volumes. lotta money went into getting precisely what i wanted.
you aren't messing around!
Loudest rig I've played throush is my own Blackstar Series One 100. But it has power scaling that makes it good for home use.
I think you need the "girth" of a 4-tube 100W power section - even if you're not turning it up, it just has more depth.
I have the Laney AOR 100w and the Sunn Beta Lead. My ears still hurt
loudest rig ive played through is my stereo rig. rockerverb 100 mkii and mesa boogie stiletto trident 150w
Greetings from Van Isle again Jason. The loudest amp I have played through (my current amp) is a '71 Traynor YBA-1 with a PPIMV mod. It's 40 Watts of devastating loudness.
I have always wanted to play one of those! Bet it sounded awesome
Really enjoying your channel. Maybe a Fuzzlord pedal is in my future.. Keep the cool content coming. 🤘🤘
Loudest setup: Sunn model t + hiwatt 412 (left) sunn 2000s + matamp like 412 (right) hiwatt custom 100 + Marshall 1960 412 from 1982 (center)
Fuzzrocious rat + colorsound boost clone + dod meatbox

Enrico Ivaldi damn that's a bad ass back line.
I'm using a Orange Crush 120c and it's a beast,by far loudest I personally have played
Great amps for sure! Thanks for watching and sharing! Cheers!
Did do a couple warmup gigs for High on Fire and got to use Matts caps and that was plenty loud too😁
Loudest rig I’ve played is a 2 sovtek mig50 pushed by EAE model fet preamp and a dual dark 50 . This is my current setup.
Totally!! Cheers 🤘
Yo man I just got an AC30 with Alnico Blues not really sure if it is going to cut the butter, handles drop A really lovely at the moment.
I bet it sounds awesome!
Thanks for watching,
Jason
Jason
Loudest setup, ehm not sure about the cab brands and models but it was an EBS Fafner through a 215 and a 412. Shit went crazy
YYEEEESSSSSSSSSSS to the all mighty MATAMP. THank you for watching and commenting.

I have a 100W Sunn Alpha Four PA from the 80s! I plan to build a 2x12 cab with Eminence Swamp Thangs when I come back after break.
Loudest amp I own is a Sunn Model T. That thing is a beast
