When he was a young boy, Jake McKay dreamt of becoming an NHL star just like Teemu Selanne. He never achieved that dream, but he did find a home in the Old West Hockey League as the longtime captain of the Hemel Hawks.
One morning, Jake wakes up to learn that the Hawks have been bought by none other than Teemu Selanne, his childhood hero. But to Jake’s dismay, it turns out Teemu is nothing like his humble, fun-loving public persona. He’s a narcissistic piece of work who appoints himself as the team’s new head coach and general manager.
While Jake struggles to deal with Teemu’s massive ego in the weeks leading up to training camp, Teemu’s archenemy - fellow hockey legend Brett Hull - puts a bid in for an opposing team. Infuriated, Teemu tries to stop the deal by bribing the league’s shady commissioner. But when the ever-resourceful Hully dreams up a scheme involving a dead ringer for NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, all bets are off.
Meanwhile, Jake’s lovable loser best friend and team equipment manager, Sniff, falls head over heels for Amy, the Hawk’s new merchandise manager. But if he hopes to see it go anywhere, he’ll first need to overcome his fear of pretty girls.

I worked for the Ducks the day they got Selanne. Easily the nicest athlete I’ve ever worked with. I remember one time on the road after the morning skate, Teemu stayed late to do interviews. Most of the team had already gone back to the hotel for lunch. We were heading up the tunnel on the bus and there were two fans on the other side of the fence with Selanne jerseys. Even though he had already had a long morning, he asked the driver to stop the bus, got off and signed the fan’s jerseys. Just a great person!
I met him around that time also. I was 12 at the time and he stopped after the game with his dad and signed for all of us. Class act.
I am from Winnipeg and grew up on the same street Teemu lived on when he came here. He used to come outside and play street hockey with us kids all the time.
I met Teemu in his rookie season after a game in Winnipeg. He was my hero and I was 12. Best day of my life
Super excited for this! Teemu has always been my favorite player since I saw him in an exhibition game his rookie season. I got to chat with him on a Lufthansa flight to LAX and he’s super nice as well. Another cool memory is I sat second row when his jersey was retired in Anaheim, got 2 warmup pucks and then unbelievably got a game puck that went out of play.

@@RC-ll6je Cool, I was reading up a little bit on the '92 preseason and the North Stars and Jets played each other on September 27th in Winnipeg (but Selanne didn't play), North Stars winning 4-2. Shane Churla scored twice and Levins & Tinordi had a fight.
And then on your game on October 3rd in Minnesota. According to the newspaper Winnipeg Sun there were 12,916 people in the stands. Minnesota won 3-2 and it was Minnesota's fifth straight win over the Jets.
Selanne had an assist on Zhamnov's power play goal in the first period.
