To be fair so many of these modern AAA games made in Western countries are either disappointing (as in half baked), mediocre, bad, very bad to downright horrible
It's gone so bad that it even rubs off to some Japanese game devs sometimes, especially with investors and executives messing things up further, I guess AAA video game industry really tries to kill passion as much as they could, although in terms of Dead Island 2, it's more of a disappointment after an okay (but quite fun and somewhat impressionable) game, a mediocre spin off, and 8 year long wait for disappointment
I think after Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2 finished, so many game devs starts to gradually forgot on how to procure almost mathematical details on how to make a game feels good and fun to play, developing good video games requires harmonious combinations between:
craftsmanship, teamwork, passion, investment and management
I think they could pushes more open area stuffs, increases leveling to be much more feasible and adds more details almost in physics-degree manner to make combat more satisfying and less repetitive, this also includes adding abilities that manipulates the enemy zombies' A.I to respond in players favours like turning zombies into temporal allies or make them cannibalising each other, Dead Rising 3 & 4 shouldn't being example on how to even make good zombie games
They could've gone back to Left 4 Dead 1/2 roots without falling into the dreadful pits of Back 4 Blood too but oh well

@@prodtgnd I think he got a "bad flavor in his mouth" because the game is just bad. The card system is so ridiculously stupid and out of place, it's like it was thrown in there just to do it. It's already bad enough games make you unlock basic abilities like blocking/sprinting/ADS'ing/etc. However, forcing you to use a card slot when you have small amount of slots to work with is nothing short of a joke.

@@prodtgnd Yea, I mean, you can clearly see this game was in development hell for a long time. There's some legitimately decent new additions (gore system, physics from things like gas/water cans), half-assed things thrown in for seemingly no reason (cards, zombies completely immune to weapons just because the weapons are imbued with a certain elemental types, ads constantly spawning during boss fights), completely disappointing things (no open-world, no vehicles, the same re-used boss fight over and over), and, to top it all off, a cookie-cutter story with playable characters (most of the NPC's as well) who act like they're playing a zombie apocalypse game instead of actually living it.
IMO, the first Dead Island is a much better game than this "sequel," despite the first game being fairly disappointing in the first place. Just so you know where I'm coming from with that, I followed the development of the first game for 4+ years before release. It was supposed to be a completely different game (almost). Different art style, the gore system from DI2 was basically finished and ready to be used for the original, but they scrapped it. The tone of the story and the game overall was supposed to be very serious. You were going to play as a guy looking for his wife when they were on vacation on a resort island just as the zombie outbreak hit. There weren't supposed to be any joke weapons like an electric/flammable sword, etc. Basically, Techland just followed what Gearbox did with Borderlands to a T.
They've had decent success with the Dead Island franchise, but it's pretty much doomed to be a B-level, "comedy" take on the zombie apocalypse in perpetuity. Total shame, because it could've been so much more.

We Happy Few combat is slow though I feel like it fits with the game, since some of the characters probably had little to no combat experience before the events of the story.
We happy few is one of my favourite games of all time. Honestly I enjoy the combat but I think I’m a minority. The game is seriously flawed but I just love the atmosphere and characters so much
@@smuleforsyth the atmosphere in We Happy Few is incredible and is oddly cosy to me in a way, perhaps because it reminds me of Bioshock. I live in fear of a bad live action adaption of the Bioshock trilogy but I think We Happy Few could be adapted for a show pretty well with the right budget (ie getting TLOU treatment).

@@testhekid Played through the whole game and it seems like enemies higher level than you have some kind of innate damage resistance, so if they have the red icon or skull it's better to either avoid them or go do a handful of side quests. I only did about 1-2 side quests per area, and only rarely had a level issue
@@gaiusperson8704 To be fair in borderlands 2 the enemies atleast didnt get resistance bonuses when they were higher level than you. So even if enemies had a skull icon you still could burst them down relativly quickly with the right gear (it´s when slag becomes mandatory where borderlands 2 becomes absolute bullshit)

If you haven’t noticed yet, Carla will voiced by the same person that voices Sombra in OW, and Raze in Val. Ryan, if you’ve played Control and met Arish then you’d recognize his voice. What I’m trying to say is that Dead Island 2 excels in many places but falls short in others. In a way it feels like there wasn’t good communication between the different teams and the directors lost the creative direction they originally had for the game. My hope is that they continue to update the game for years to come similar to Dying Light. Who knows maybe they’ll update the story, or the combat, maybe add more areas to the maps, or potentially they’ll make the executive decision to change everything! Only time will tell what changes they decide to make to the game.
I don't wanna see the Devs crowbar the game into something else.

The combat system of dead island 2 is like playing the pyro in tf2.
I'm not planning to play Dead Island 2 (I didn't even play the first Dead Island), but in my opinion, the game should've been much better in all means for a game that stayed in development for TEN years.
I bet most of the people who were hyped for Dead Island 2 expect more from the game.
But it doesn't make difference to me. I won't play the game anyway.
It’s quite the contrary when it comes into games that go through development hell. If it was one studio for 10 years, yeah that’s an understandable stance. But the game got tossed around to 3 different studios, where each time the majority of the previous iteration of the game was scrapped. Development hell =/= development time is the main point lol

@@grimreaper6060 I actually don’t know if techland was ever in development of it. I’m pretty sure it started with the studio who made SpecOps the Line, since techland spun off into dying light. Since Deep Silver wanted the game to be developed, it was gonna be made regardless of if developers wanted it or not. And developers will make it since they want a job lol. Sadly the gaming world is a lot more business oriented than it was (or at least appeared to be) in the 360 and ps3 days

I picked Jacob for my first full playthrough the guns are fine and I think the weapon attack speed depends on the weapon your using it can also be upgraded too but a issue with the game on solo is the fact that after all your quests are done there's nothing to do except try online which way funner then solo tbh

I remember completing dead island when i was 8 on my xbox 360, now I'm almost done with my first year of highschool for shocked that this game even came out after it being dropped countless times
The combat felt odd at first in Dead Island 2, but after about 5 hours it clicked for me. Combat really feels great imo, especially going fury mode
the people who did the graphics didn't talk to the people who coded the gameplay and the people who coded the gameplay didn't talk to the people who wrote the story

You can’t change difficulty, you cat explore the world without being chased by 50 zombies, you can’t enjoy the game, you can’t go on a killing spree because even the weakest zombie dies after 10 slashes, pure disappointment and the worst part is I paid for the gold edition.

Fun zombie game is a fun zombie game and that’s what I got definitely wouldn’t call it disappointing especially after switching devs multiple times and being in development hell (also the combat feeling weightless is just plain wrong)

When a game got a 70 bucks price tag I don't give a fuck whether its been development hell or switched devs multiple time. Just give me a game worth 70 bucks. Gamers nowadays are so braindead and desensitized from all the new dogshit AAA games.
I feel like all these guys complaining about weightlessness maxed out on mods that increase stats, but reduce force and they just never actually thought those stats on the weapon actually matter
I don't rate games on what almost happened and what could've been if things hadn't been different.
The game came out and the melee is pretty bad.
Everything else, (maybe not the story) is okay and expected.
8 years of dev time and all I see is cope.

Dead Island 2 was the first zombie game i played after so many years, amost a decade to be exact. I love it so far, it's really refreshing to have such a game in a genre that's been milked so much.
Pyro seems to enjoy games that are in le head only.

genius idea: add a tutorial before the plane crash that lests you try each character and see who you prefer instead of blindly choosing one based on stats
I don't think I know any games that do that but the stats are enough. You can tell each category with the stats

It was pretty good actually, I think it's unique, yet small for the years worked on. (Definitely rushed out the gate plot-wise, but was SMOOTH at launch)
Yeah it's kinda insane that DI2, the quintessentially modern developer he'll game, came out in a much better state than the majority of AAA games anymore lol.

The truly disappointing thing about the game is there's no replay value whatsoever I mean you can maybe have a little fun running around testing out different characters but I mean what's the point and the map feels smaller than the other Dead island games

Dead island game seems like a game in the same vein of mafia 3: where it’s better to watch all the cutscenes on TH-cam then to actually play and experience the whole thing for yourself
I will agree with Pyro about the game's combat not looking as great. But, at the very least, the gore tech and graphics do look amazing. But also, to make a game actually good too, it needs to at least have combat that feels like it has some weight, and so on, as Pyro has mentioned. You can have some story stuff going on and whatnot and it doesn't necessarily need to be the best or anything. With a game like this, people expect some really fun combat since they will be looking more at wanting to do zombie killing than the story and whatnot. Maybe they had too much time being spent on making the gore look as good as it is, or working on other areas of the game, idk. But maybe they can update the game to at least make the combat feel a little better, idk. I will say that I haven't necessarily played the game myself, but I have watched some friends play. And the most interesting thing out of everything was pretty much the gore. So yeah.
Other than that, I have played the new update put out for Dying Light 2, known as the "Gut Feeling" update. They basically improved the combat feel, physics, and changed the way the gore works on zombies and other enemies. Now, zombies actually have noticeable marks based on where you generally hit them. It isn't anything like Dead Island 2's, but it still makes the feel of the combat in the game a lot nicer than it used to. There is a bug with one of the combat moves you do, specifically when you go to throw an enemy with a charged throw. The normal throw of throwing them left right or behind you will make them stumble and result in being stunned briefly. The charged throw, should make them actually get tossed, going into ragdoll mode in whatever direction you throw them in. But with the new update, they just fall down in front of you mid-throw. I'm sure it will get fixed at some point if it hasn't been already. But yeah. I guess what I was trying to get at by mentioning Dying Light 2 is that originally, at the launch of Dying Light 2, the combat didn't necessarily feel the best, but with time, Techland was able to improve it, making it feel a lot more satisfying to fight zombies. With Dead Island 2, it may be the same case here as well, maybe. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Strong disagree. But that’s obviously my take. I loved how simple and straightforward Dead Island 2 is. No frills, no huge catch, and no huge overarching narrative punchline. It’s just fun.
wdym dambuster didn't make anything besides dead island 2, they made homefront the revolution- a game that has an entire seperate game inside of it (timesplitters 2 i think) that's also better than the game it's inside of

My main problem with dead island 2 as one of the 10 people that enjoyed the others is that there's no character diversity. Every character gets the same abilities except 2 passives you can't remove and an optional skill which is shared with another character. Dead island and dead island riptide had 4/5 characters each with their own skill trees and weapon specialisations. In dead island 2 i am constantly playing the same way no matter who I'm playing - perfect block -> attack -> perfect block -> attack -> ground pound -> attack. Compare to dead island 1 where you have a guy who throws weapons that boomerang back dealing massive damage, a woman who specialises is high critical damage to instantly decapitate enemies, the tank who specialises in crowd control and knocking down enemies to make them sitting ducks and a lady who can mow down hordes from range and reload near instantly with her gun specialisations. (Yes i know their names)

I think the problem is giving the zombies levels, instead of using the engine and body damage (exept bosses i guess)

Hell isn't that what the Dead Space remake did with its peeling system? Instead of just a health bar you just had to tear through the layers of bone and muscle until you cut the limb off.
