- Here's my list of the best and worst Gunpla of the year! We had a whole lot of kits out this year, overall mostly pretty great! There were a few that really stood out and a few that really disappointed~ Agree? Disagree? Let me know what your picks are down below!

The Astaroth Origin was probably my favourite of the year, great video dude.
My first gunpla took me..3 hours to build. Straight. My second one took me 2 hours. Which I love to build them. You got me into it. Thank you!

MG Thunderbolt FA and MG Freedom 2.0 is the best kits ive built this year.
The sinanju RG was the first kit I painted, that being said. it was also the first I made mods to, if the kit seemed riddle with issues that seem like personal preferences on how it should behave . It was definetly a kit that encourages to modify in order to achieve desired movement.
Great video. Solid and honest opinions, detailed and informative. Definitely going to pick up a couple of the IO Frame Shiden kits for sure. Thanks heaps !

The Origin Dom Test type is a Hajime Katoki redesign of the original Kunio Okawara designs for the *MS-07C-5 Gouf Test Prototype*, the *YMS-08A High Mobility Test Type*, and the *YMS-09 Prototype Dom*. The "derpy" face specifically comes from MS-07C-5 Gouf Test Prototype, and is an additional nod to Okawara's designs. I'm happy it made the list though, it is one of my favorite HG kits!
Revisiting this video in 2022 and it's funny hearing about the Freedom 2.0 hip joint issues, as the MGEX Freedom has been having the same issues
I love the freedom 2.0. But its legs and waist pegs broke on me. I had to fix it multiple times even though I treated it very delicate.
Tldr I love it but now, I can't touch the thing ever again.
I felt like the Gundam Marine Type should've gotten an honorable mention at least LOL
Its the kit that made the Local Type frame complete and for what it is the color separation is really good OOB despite the stickers being pretty bad.
It's my personal favorite kit this year though its probably nowhere near objectively the best.
Maybe I should try Iron Blooded Orphans kits next, but I only have 2 RG kits and the amount of detail they have is just too amazing. Plus the Unicorn Gundam is just too damn fantastic. Extremely solid compared to any RG I've seen.

I'm one of those weird people who really like the weirder mech designs, so I pretty much fell in love with the Gyan Revive. It's just one of those mechs that look weird in all the right ways, and I love it's design.
Great list, Zack!!! Totally agree with you, especially with the Shia Quanta, Grimgerde and Gyan... I kinda mouthed silently "Exactly!" about 6 times... hehehe

The Gyan surprised me for taking number 1 but after the lengthy explanation does make a lot of sense. I think I'll be picking one up in the near future. Quality even in bandai kits can be hard to find and to have this pointed out in such a way must be worth looking into. Thanks.

Even though I disagree on a few things, I obviously haven't built all the kits. XD Most of my differing opinions are design preferences, like how I really dig the Scramble design and am not as fond of the Freedom 2.0 or Origin Dom despite liking the original version of both designs. The revive Gyan is fantastic though, no doubt. Its the only kit that I build and just left on my desk to play with for a long time.

What an amazing video, thank you very much for sharing this with us! I'll have to grab the MG Freedom 2.0 and the HG Graze based on this review because those kids are looking absolutely wonderful.
Hopefully 2017 will bring us a lot of new and exciting kits with fresh designs and new gimmicks. Do we have any news or rumors of what the the next PG might be?

Lol, I've always enjoyed the Gyan - was the first HG I built (The Revive kit). It was a lot of fun! I then moved on to the MG Ver Ka Sazabi, Nu and Hi-Nu, built a 2.0 MG Freedom and am gonna order the PG Strike Freedom to build next!
I have totally different top 5 list (except Grimgerde coz that is definitely an amazing kit), but i do appreciate the pros and cons stated for each of the kits which defined these decisions. Now im thinking of picking up a few kits from this list. :)

I think a cool recolor of the scramble gundam is to give it the color scheme of an Impulse Gundam, maybe the colors of the Impulse Gundam Blanche

Totally agree with the Gyan and also got that weird sense of awesomeness with the kit after build probably because that the kit is solid, nothing lose, slick and sweet articulation.
I'm quite surprised that none of the Gundam Wing kits made it. i actually have Gundam the Origin kit and I got it as a christmas gift and it's just really awesome. it comes with effects. It posses really really well. I'm also happy that at least 1 of the build fighters gundam made it in. But I still enjoyed this video. I'll admit that Gusin and Break were kinda bad making it just you have to build one of the two and for just being a gunpla builder I went and got 2 kits of it so all i really did was build both and threw away the extra box and parts. Thou in the end i really liked this video and I can't wait to see what you have to say in your next video. Keep on building fellow builders!

definitely didn't see the Gyan being one of the best of the year and I hate the design but you got me interested in the build, I really wanna see how that wrist works
11:48 that Shield the he is using is called a kite Shield and you described holding it the correct way so I'm not sure why you think it is not a good look
Damn, and I have the RG Sinanju box waiting to be assembled, wanted to see the improvements from the normal HG one.
You should review gundam musha mk 2. It was a fantastic master grade that looks very nice on my shelves
I bought the gyan only because it was cheap. I thought the design was plain but it and the gyancelot are some of my favorite kits.
Agree that HGUC Gyan is amazing, but I preferred Gyancelot more. The point is I can just select a portion of the additional parts of Gyancelot, and keep the remaining parts intact (Gyan). This provides a very easy way to modify your own Gyan, even for beginners. It is also a very handy way to get rid of the standard Gyan head, if you are uncomfortable with it like I do...lol
Plus, I just ignored all the gold decorations of Gyancelot and keep the original Gyan color scheme. So painting is not and issue too.
What about the hgibo Barbatos lupus?

yeah it's such a cool kit but man the lack of accessories really was not cool on Bandai's part.

Its great that it's cheap, however I would gladly pay a little more for more weapons. And still keep it cheap. Most ibo kits are cheap and have more plastic than the lupus.
well since it's cheap you can easily take the add on pack for the lupus with hands, weapons and even a mibile worker... so it becomes a 1500 (maybe less) and becomes a decent kit :)
i think the best thing in 2016, was the Iron Blooded Orphans line of kits... its certainly new designs, bold move with the inner frames and definitely a plus for just being a 1/100 scale with everything that it accomplished without being a master grade... for me that will be an applause for bandai... not to mention the price was just right... would you agree Z.A? hehe

the kits that I disliked in the IBO line were, the MG gusion/rebake, hg hyakuren, and the hg lupus rex.
Happy New Year! I'd replace the Sinanju with the Gundam Local Type on the worst kit list. It's such a disappointment compared to all the other kits in the GTO line, and there's a terrible price tag to boot.

especially with that Gusion / G Rebake. They should release both as separate kit. Bundling both into one not only make more expensive, it also waste money for the leftover parts -_-

I would have to say my five favorites of the year are HG The Origin Local Type, HGIBO Julieta's Reginlaze, HGUC Gyan Revive, HGIBO Grimgerde, and HGIBO IO Frame.

IMO 2016 is still sucks because many talents gone this year. David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince, Muhammad Ali, Gene Wilder, George Michael, Carrie Fisher, Debby Reynold and there more talents that passed away that I not mention here. A lot of them are part from my childhood. I hope they all Rest in Peace.

Great video, but seeing Shiden as #5 hurts my heart since I ruined the outer eye sticker with clear coat and had to just shade it pure black with Sharpie...
Despite of all the bad reviews about the Sinanju ive bought it and im glad i did. It looks FANTASTIC. It has so much moveable parts and so much detail that it poses like a boss.
Glad i didnt let me affect by those reviewers.
the Eastern Weapon set also came molded in light grey. it really should have been dark grey.
The RG Sinanju has some good features and the shield can be mounted on the shoulders.

Rg RX-78-2.. always start with grandpa.. then feel the transition from worst to the best with that RG line.. I build by this order. RG grandpa, mk2, gp01, unicorn, and so on.. very satisfying. RG god gundam is the best..

I'll be one of the few to say I liked the Scramble gundam a lot. Outside of the price point I like the colors and look of it a lot.
I followed up you comment to buy a HGUC Gyan...but it's so loose after few hours of playing...don't feel it worth the top one

Personally I was pretty fond of HG Astaroth Origin. Of course it suffers from the typical sticker problems many HG IBO kits seem to have so I figured stuff like that probably holds it back from being considered one of the best. Glad to see Io Frame Shiden listed though. I'll have to pick that up.

I never expected the Gyan, but then again it has been getting a lot of love from Bandai.
Grimgerde kit is all around awesome, with an interesting hybrid of tallgeese, dark matter and graze. Besides the shitty hands it's fun to build, pose and look at.

What about Endless Waltz. Any thought on them for the best/worst.
I modified my scramble Gundam to basically be an Arios Gundam
with that and messing with the joints and other stuff to get a better transformation really made all the difference for this kit.
For the Shia I got a green base, It was a disappointing build after building the RG 00 Qanta, so there's that.

Pretty sure in Japan you can actually order spare specific parts so technically you could of ordered another inner frame for the Gusion/Rebake, but sure you can always argue majority of people don't live in JPN.

my favourite was the hg vidar and shiden, but I don't buy many at all. Vidar is my 5th kit ever.

Hey zaku new to the channel I subbed and am enjoying you're videos been a fan of gunplay for at least a year and recently got my first mg 1/100 and it's great, I wanted to know what paint to use on full runners to not melt the plastic

DAQ 10120 Hey there~ first off, don't paint the parts on the runners. Cut them off and clean them up properly before painting. As for types of paint, there are three main types used: acrylic, enamel, and lacquer. Check out some info online for the pros and cons of these and decide which route you want to take
This was a great year to be the only person in the western hemisphere to think gyan looks rad.
HGUC Gyan Revive is awesome, i've been waiting for it ever since I got into the hobby since the original sucked. The wait was not disappointing and I got one of the best HG kits I own to date. I love my Gyan Revive to death, and i'm proud he won!
I dint get the hg Barbatos but there's a high quality one thing but not cheap for me I guess

what gunpla would you suggest for beginners
i personally think the backpack thrusters opening on the sinanju just looks wrong, also dislike the gold seporation on chest and shield even though i had a nightmare this year trying to reverse wash on the MG.
my kit of the year is PLAMAX Machine Caliber Striker, that thing costs a bomb but the quality shines.
RobinHoodUKIP Yeah personally don't care for the gold separation either, I prefer the sharper detail of the HG or MG~ even if it's more work to reverse wash! Haha
