    Building as you go is one of the ways that prevents me from overthinking/stalemating a project. Just start with the basic build in my head and it always turns out. Nicely done.

      Same. I'm here looking around to over analyzing an anwing rebuild after a hurricane. It would have survived just fine if a large live oak branch didn't mess it up, but I still feel as though I might as well just rebuild it better than it was.

      True craftsman. If you know and put out good craftsmanship, you can build almost anything.

    The "building as you go" method is 100% my MO. I am glad there are others out there that are very successful doing projects that way. Too much planning on my part can stall projects or even keep them from happening. I will admit that TH-cam has inspired me and provided many great ideas for some of my projects. For example, my 2x72 inch belt grinder build, a metal melting foundry build, and my current project, a wood fired pizza oven.
    Thanks Jimbo!

    Doing the same thing off a conex shop but used 1/3 the rafters and ran a few deck boards and screwed tin down boards.

    Wow, really nice, wish I had the same. Not sure, but does that block wall need to move independently of your garage and roof, and could that cause a problem? Might want to keep an eye on it over the years...

  • @1970chevelle396

    That looks like it will work out great. I also put a metal roof on my carport because it doesn't have enough drop to it for shingles.

    Always love your projects. The only concern I have with this one is the way the panels where installed. Looks beautiful but they are only supported along the edges and will most likely fail when the get a few years on them. Wish I was half the welder you are! Thanks for all the videos.

  • @hummmingbirdie
    @hummmingbirdie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Jimbo, you should use transparent/translucent acrylic sheets instead of metal sheets here - it would give you a lot of light that you are cutting off with the metal sheets.

    Great Job, but two things to consider: 1. trusses are too much, you could have put only one in every 8 feet and fill the rest with wood. This would have made your job much cheaper and much easier. (Not as good looking as this though) 2. Are all the rain going to neighbor's property? What do they say about it?

  • @garybrown9719

    the work looks good except you never put a gutter on the end of that metal sheeting to keep the water from going in your neighbor's yard he may not appreciate that why most building codes will not let you build close to the property line.

    i know you said the roofing material is light weight, but it's normally the wind uplift that will do the damage and i really don't think those screws are the correct fixings. Either way, good job and great video as always.

    Great little video!...just what I was looking for. I'm building something similar, instead of metal roofing I'm using tinted polycarbonate double wall panels. They weigh Less than the metal roofing. I'm spanning 14ft. With the price of steel skyrocketing, I need the most efficient size "rafter"...do ya think 2" x 2" x 16 Gauge (Grade A500) will do the trick? Thanks! (great looking shop!!)

  • @argotungsten4336

    Lol. That usually happens to me when I'm far into a project and a mistake happens . Then in order to save what I've done a reeeaaalllly over complicate the project .... I salvage it, but boy is it a pain in the rear end 😂😂
    Only concerns I c r wind uplift and "wind tunneling" through there . Maybe a door or something to minimize?
    On another note , nice job 👍

  • @mfennema
    @mfennema 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love your videos. Since you made the wall the full height all the way down, why not just use the wall to hold up the outside edge of the roof instead of adding all the steel tubing to hold that up?

  • @rapsokoi

    Enjoyed watching your video and great welding skills indeed. I kinda wonder for an awning this size do you need to include a gutter to channel the rain water?

  • @genarchdesign
    @genarchdesign 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should have purlins and inside gutter with downspout

  • @DaddyBear3000
    @DaddyBear3000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks awesome. Good shout on filling in the wall. Some corrugated plastic sheets would help get some light in, but if you're getting some lamps in anyway, why would you.
    Did you seal the overlaps? I've worked of a few corrugated projects and if you don't seal the overlap moss get's under it and is a pain in arse to get out.

  • @michaelrubin8194
    @michaelrubin8194 7 ปีที่แล้ว
