Everything we read about the 35 Remington points to the fact that many people still use them yet ammunition nobody seems to want to manufacture this cartridge even during "normal" times. You would think that at least one manufacturer would take advantage of the demand and fill the void in the market.

I have a 74, it has taken down a few wild boar with no problem, ammo has been a problem so it never goes to the range.

Great video as always, David! Thanks for sharing this with us. And may I congratulate you on the acquisition of a fine lever action rifle from days gone by. A shooting buddy I used to hang around with 40+ years ago had one of these. And he had a Dan Wesson 15-2 .357 revolver. I muddled through with my German-made .380 Walther PPK/S {LOL}. I was a lil' green with envy of course, but not in the least covetous. He was a good kid and deserved them - plus his Dad's pockets were deeper than mine {LOL}. Anyway, I digress... Of course, he let me shoot some rounds through his Marlin 336 and I was quite impressed with it. He told me his Dad picked the .35 Remington round over 30-30 because of its reputation as a "brush-buster" and would have a better chance of bagging a whitetail deer if your shot had to bust through some thick brush to hit your deer. I know the 30-30 is no slacker, but evidently the .35 Remington has more punch. Makes perfect sense to me. Ever since, I've held this lever action gun in high regard. Glad you got yourself one! :-)

That's a beauty. I have the 30-30. I looked on Academy sports and they sell .35 Remington. The thing with them is ammo ships free when you but $25.00 or more which is awesome.

I thought "RC" = "Regular Carbine" and "SC" equaled "Sporting Carbine," and had to do with the magazine tube length and capacity.

I have a 1963 Sears Roebuck Model 45 in .35 Remington which was made by Marlin and I put a Williams rear sight on it myself. It’s a shooter for sure.

I just bought a Marlin 336XLR in 30-30 about 2 years ago . The fit and finish on it is fine as far as I can tell. Like all new lever actions even my 336CS (JM) model had a break in period before it ran smooth. Maybe it is the luck of the draw whether or not you get a good one. I've had no problems with them. A beauty of a rifle, David. Nice partner to your waffle top. Good luck with it. 👍

Curtis Martin First of all, thank you so much for watching and your kind words. I have to be honest and tell you I am not very familiar with the rifles you are considering BUT I can tell you I have a great deal of respect for the products that CZ puts out.

Man that’s a great looking rifle. I definitely wouldn’t touch that rear sight though. It’s only personal preference but a receiver mounted peep on a lever action just has a great 20th century look. And as you said, it ain’t a cowboy gun so a tang mounted peep would be odd.

Fine rifle well made even to this day , i have hunting friends who use the Marlin to hunt with every year... Oh in one of my history books there is a couple of chapters on Custer's last stand and the firearms found at the site after the battle .. More Trapdoor Springfield single shot rifles were found on the battlefield than any other type of action..It did not say in the historical event how many falling block rifle were carried by the troops or were later recovered .. Trapdoor Springfield rifles were quite plentiful and standard issue at the time it said... Thanks , i learned an important piece of history.. There were tons of of falling block rifles made by several makers in that time period ..

The 30-30 is cheaper and available in most stores anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. Marlin did make different models of the 336. Not every JM marked Marlin will have a Gold Trigger or the RC designation. I bought a mint 336 Marlin made in 1971 known as the Texan model with the straight stock, saddle ring with squared lever. This model is collectible. The gun shop owner inflated the price on all his JM Marlin rifles. I still think it's a $250 rifle not $500.

John Doe With the current gun craze, prices have gone up exponentially on certain firearms and ammunition. I am seeing used Leveraction rifles from $300-$550 on the used rack. I paid $350 for a used .44 Magnum Winchester 94 that was shot little but never cleaned or maintained by the owner who wanted $500 because he said Winchester didn’t make many .44 Magnum rifles. I paid a good price for it’s condition. Cash still is King!
