- Home is supposed to be where you feel comfort, secure and stability with the families. With her only daughter's leaving in the first place, then the sterilization, and the four boys, Boris, Brio, Dario and Carlo's leaving later on, Ameia's life is predictable to be lonely and miserable.
Hopefully, she can somehow sneak back to the Parking Lot Troop, to reunite with her daughter and grand daughter.
Oh how it saddens me to see that tattoo on Ameia, she has so much love to give & she's got such a gentle soul. I can't believe how much Brio & Dario have grown!

What a beautiful video, Ameia is such a wonderful mama. We have watches her over the last few years lovingly raise her beautiful little ones. Thank you for your work not only for recording the monkeys, their troops, but giving them a voice. Like you said, humans being hostile toward mother nature, they cut the forests and the home of many wildlife creatures like monkeys, that they had to find way to survive in places were humans live making it hard to them to live in peace.
Humans are part of nature too. Don’t think for a second that the monkeys come to the people.

We usually grow up thinking of monkeys as silly and whimsical,but now as an old man,it strikes me as sad and plaintive when I hear them call. I worked at the Cleveland Zoo for 30 years and spent more time with animals than people there. They changed me. I wish I could hug every one of them.
I've had animals my whole adult life. Without them I simply wouldn't be here. If only people were more like animals this world would be a better place

Sadly it's the last baby she'll have. But on the other hand, they won't over populate. I wish they would only do this after they've had at least 2 babies. It can harm them I believe if done too early.

Such a pleasant surprise coming across your video this afternoon. I was really excited, smiling, enjoying, and then.... frowning, disappointment, disbelief came to me. Ameia is such a wonderful mum and her kids are fun and loving. I can't believe that this has happened. Thank you for sharing your video and the update.
When man interferes with nature, it will only lead to more problems in the future, I take it little puppy did not make it, mom was sat there without any sign of her little one, another one has found the golden tree to heaven.

Monkeys are like humans and they cannot see well at night. I think it is very bad for the feeders to feed the monkeys so late and they may have difficulties seeing and climbing back to the trees when it is dark.
What has happened to Bonita and her baby?
I am sad they have sterilised Ameia. She is such a good mother.
I think this sterilisation programme is very bad. The people in HK should appeal to the authorities to stop this evil practice.

Amelia lived for her babies. I am going to hate to see a sad and depre seed Ameia when she has none. I know this is be there than culling, but not much better.
If people would stop all the year round feedings, the population would drop to meet the available natural food sources. Before Covid there were only one or two feeders who mainly came in the winter when food was scarce, the parking lot troop being the exception. All these current feeders are causing an unnatural population explosion. We love seeing all the babies being born every spring and summer, but that just makes the troops more dependent on the feeders. Humans are causing way too much interference and the result is not going to be good for the monkeys.....or for the people living near them.
There are signs for people not to feed wild animals, including monkeys and people have ignored the signs. I think it is more natural not to feed the monkeys than to sterilise them.
I have seen a Chinese video of these monkeys in central China and they are allowed to live in the wild and none of these Chinese monkeys are sterilised. It seems that these female Chinese monkeys do not have babies every year because they need to find enough food to feed themselves and their babies.

Ameia is a great mother she doesn’t deserve that tattoo, how cruel they are, Nora deserve thst tattoo not Ameia, Gypsy of our Gang also deserve that tattoo not Ameia, she is responsible loving ang caring mom, this is so disgusting, she deserve to have a baby girl who can look after her when she gets old.
Ameia is fed abundantly by feeders maybe because of her situation having to survive two kids and the feeders know her and do give her a favor.
I feel so sad for Ameia, I imagine getting booted from her troop made it harder to eat so she probably went into one of the cages that had food in it. Damn that stupid program!😤

So disgusting to see a very wonderful so very caring and loving mom have that tattoo on her, this is sad so heart breaking, never in my entire watching monkey videos have I seen a beautiful monkey mom like Ameia , really love her a adore her for being such a very inspiring not only for other monkey but human mothers as well.

Amelia is so used to being a mom that it might really mess her up for awhile. I do understand that there is inbreeding and they have to get that stopped but it is still sad. She don’t even realize this is her last baby. :(
I've discovered that the sound of monkeys eating uncooked pasta is the new "nails on a chalkboard" for me.

They are lured into cages with food, then taken & sterilized. The tattoos show that they were sterilized. 💕
This is sad. Ameia is such a good Mum. It is awful that they take Mum with babies..which means they would have taken Carlo off her during the surgery and he would have been terrified during that time.
It seems that the deformation of Amaia's mouth has increased, or it just seems that way to me. What does the tattoo mean? I thought it was done to females who were spayed, but Ameia can have babies. So why does he have a tattoo?

It looks like Ali was just going into estrus for the first time too. I can only hope she got pregnant before they sterilized her. I absolutely hate the fact the government sterilizes anyone they catch 3-years or older without allowing the female to have at least 1 baby. And my heart broke when I saw that tattoo on Ameia's chest. The best mom out there just got sterilized. The only hope for her to have another baby now is by chance to adopt again. So sad.
Can Ameia still produce milk after being sterilized?
@@sherrikelly7588 It is possible. She can lactate. I know Dorothy from Bossy's troop still lactates. She was nursing her grand daughter Daphne.

I know this video is old, but I have a question, do they understand what has happened, why they can't have babies ?
No. They only know they don't, which is worse. They're driven by instinct to reproduce. IDK about these HK troops, but in other countries it has been noted that sterilization policies lead to an increase in the number of females who kidnap, & thus an increase in the number of infant deaths from abuse & starvation as a result of being kidnapped.
Why was Ameia kicked out and is she her own "troop" now?
Oh no, JW! Life can be so beautiful and yet so cruel at the same time, as evidenced by Stormy's short life. But when the cruelty is imposed by man, there is really no excuse. I don't want to judge our friends who work for the parks in Hong Kong, but I wish so much whoever makes the policies would understand how sterilization really messes and destroys a female macaque's one and only purpose in life- to be a mother. Like the others have said, Ameia has so much love to give. We can only hope she "finds" another baby and adopts him in the future, but I doubt lightening will strike twice. Thank you so much for you beautiful films- the cinematography (especially in the end) combined with the lovely music is just pure art. Lastly, like you said, it is just morally irresponsible to destroy a child's ability to be a mother. At the very least with Ameia, she has had the experience of being a mother. But we have seen so many daughters of mothers who have never (and will never) have that experience. Thank you for giving them a voice and educating all of us on this heartbreaking dichotomy in Monkey Hill. I wish so much they would put a moratorium on the sterilization cages. I thought they would at least give Ameia a "pass" since she is so popular. I wonder if they will single out Callista in the future as well. And lastly (sorry I guess I have a lot to say), I hope Stella will avoid the cages, as she so desperately needs a "rainbow monkey" next year. Thank you again, JW.

Can you please explain to me. Sterilization cages? Are they trapping the monkeys and fixing them? If so why? I absolutely love watching them in their own natural environment not these stupid channels putting clothes and diapers on these poor babies 😢 but I seriously don't know much about them and really would love to learn more so I would really appreciate it if someone could explain some things to me. What happened to Ameia's mouth? What is the gestation period for them? How old are they when they have a heat cycle or do they even do that? Why are they sterilizing them and is there a certain criteria to choose the ones that will get it done?
@@vickirichardson2705 yes that's what they do. Only they really should sterilized the males and only females at age 10. I think that would curb the population so that they would not overpopulate. I'm sure they look at places like Vietnam and Cambodia and know they can't let it go that far. But I do believe it's not good to sterilize the young and never let then conceive once or twice.
@@vickirichardson2705 you raise a lot of great questions. the answers to your fact-based questions can be found if you Wikipedia ‘short tailed macaque’ i.e. gestation period is, i think, five months. The answers to your geopolitical questions, like the whys to sterilization, I have no idea, as I do not live in Hong Kong. They are great questions but I do not have the answers to them!

Little Yellow isn't getting the milk he needs if mom is missing and big sis has been sterilized and never had any babies of her own. Too bad Ameia couldn't have adopted him too because she could have nursed him but glad the family is taking good care of him. JW I would love it if you could do a video which would name all the adults by name and all their offspring. I am trying to learn all the monkeys names and babies plus the alpha's names and it isn't that easy.
