I just saw David Bruce's video on Wozzeck (with too much reference to Guinness) and had forgotten that you did it first. I also read the Wikipedia entry to Lulu and it's even crazier, whoa.
It was technically invented by Josef Hauer in 1919, the same year Berg completed writing act 1! Schönberg created an improved theory based on his in 1923 which is used over Hauer’s today. Beyond this, Berg and Schönberg studied music theory together so it’s very likely that they were both experimenting with these concepts before Schönberg ever wrote them down.
Aah, I remember Eddy talking about that kid in a TwoSet video though I don't remember the context. Thanks for the rundown. I doubt I'm ever gonna watch/listen to it. It's enough for me to know the story; real life is depressing enough.
Thankyou! Wozzeck is a GREAT opera. The music is amazing, thrilling and bizarre.
couldn't agree more!
Love the video, very nice! Franz Grundheber with Abbado is sublime in this role, best version in my opinion.
And he wasn't even called Wozzeck (yes, then they discovered in Büchner's manuscript he was called Woyzeck). It was too late for Berg to change it.
I love Wozzeck sooo much! And this TV production is superb :)
What an awesome Video about this interesting piece of art. Keep it up and do more of those Opera Plot analysis it’s great

Yes. Lulu is like a satire about outrageous narratives found in many operas. Another masterpiece.
Thank you☀🌲
Does this mean that Berg invented the twelve-tone row in the Doctor scene years before Schönberg invented it?
