Brilliant stuff! A TV channel for Scotland's truest and most beautiful language is long overdue. And a great launch showing our country at its best. Suas leis a' Ghàidhlig!!
@easy1355 Not a useless language, a fairly large language within the country that was nearly wiped out by people who made the Gaels feel inferior and outlawed the culture. But fortunately Gaelic is on the rise again. 59 Scottish schools are Gaelic medium, in 1975 there were 2 Gaelic speaking schools in Scotland. That is progress, hard fought progress, but still progress. If you are a Gael you can speak to the Irish, people from Isle of Man, people from Nova Scotia, people from Canada, etc.
Thank you for sharing..This was truly beautiful.I do not speak Gaelic language or understand it but I have always loved it:).Growing up listening to Enya and other Gaelic singers it always gave me chills and I have always felt drawn to it :).I appreciate the Gaelic culture very much what I do know of it and the music speaks for its with a life of its own:).Thank you again .Take care.I love Scotland and the Highlands very much and someone that is dear to my heart that is of Gaelic culture .xxx
Je n'ai pas assez de mots pour décrire la beauté de cette vidéo, qu'elle magnifique langue ! Vive l'Ecosse ! Je parle moi-même une langue celtique : le breton ! .....Enfin, je reste sans voix ! Evit ar Bro-Skos ( for Scotland )
BBC Alba zo eus ar c'hentañ... ha hep bruderezh enoêus! / Mae BBC yn wych - a heb hysbysebion annifyr (fel S4C)! / BBC is great... and no annoying adverts!
@kevin04scotland If you've got a satellite dish you can pick it up in much of Europe - it won't be on terrestrial until the digital switchover, which is crazy. S4C has its own dedicated channel on Freeview, so why can't BBC Alba?
Have a wee look at the current population of Scotland and the current Population of England. Once you have got a feel for this consider the land mass and resource available! It is really worth asking who is subsidising who my friend and in any case it is not as clear cut as you make it. On a more positive note great video.
@gramule No, not very selective percentiles. The facts. We could look at the whole picture of taxes, subsidies and grants etc........... but we don't have to. The United Kingdom's Statistics Agency does that for us. And lo and behold it shows that Scotland raised 9.4% of the UK's total revenue and gets 9.3% of the UK's spending. And that doesn't take into account the Licence Fee subsidy that we provide to the BBC in London.
Here's a fact - Scotland contributes 9% of the BBC licence fee and gets 3% of BBC spending. So yes, like most things, Scotland is paying for it, more than paying for it. I'd much rather Scottish licence fee money went to this rather than subsidising BBC jobs and employment in London or anywhere else south of the border (which given that we contribute far more than we get back, we are currently doing).
I agree- every child in Scotland should have Gaelic as language of instruction, immersion makes it easy. In fact, English is increasingly useless as England, N. America flounder in debt., Useful languages of future mainly Chinese and German (low debt/high tech), with Japanese/Spanish/Hindi in "2nd group." Scotland would do best making Gaelic primary language, then replace English with German for inter-European use- main Euro language, more useful (esp. in tech). Future is German, Chinese.
I was seriously holding back tears..
KEEP GAELIC ALIVE!

It's nice to see another celtic language better it's status. I'm from Wales and am a fluent speaker of Welsh. Mae hyn yn neis i'w weld!
I was blown away by this - I watched it live, after the count down for the channel launch ended.
Welshman myself - proud to feel akin to the Alban!
