Crawler Canyon Presents: Wheelin' Wednesday #8 aka NON-STOP ENDURO SE CONTENT!

  • It's pretty much like the other videos, only I don't know what I'm going to wheel nor where, and that decision is left to... the WHEELS OF FATE!
    The Wheels are wise.
    The Wheels could not have picked a better subject for the conditions of the day, the course, and my brain. I have SO much to say about the SE, mostly good-- but there are some definite issues with it. And there are so many to even include in a double-length WW installment. Consider this "takeover" as Pt.1, with Pt.2 following immediately after.

      So we know that they would have had to get new molds for the plastic links, as I don't recall them occurring on any other Element offering. Why didn't they just make the rear links 12mm longer so the WB of the rig matched the WB of the body? The shock towers are already in the 12.8" WB holes. It's the top of the list of SE head-scratchers.

    I live in the Ojai area & it looks a lot like those Mountain View’s. We just had snow on them & I’m sure there’s going to be more with the storms coming in. It’s kind of cool here because you can get a picture of snow covered mountains with a Palm tree in view. Same here. I’m definitely going to do some of those mods I have a lot of parts off of a Ecto that is a custom build Rock Pirates shock towers bed etc. So I have all 4 original shock towers. Also I plan on getting the Rock Pirates shock towers for the SE as well. And when you do that mod you have to remove that fuel cell or it hits. I’m waiting for a dry day to get mine back out. I’m just loving the SE coverage I’m like a moth to a light & watch from beginning to end no matter how long the video is. Thank you I know it’s not always fun or easy to get good footage.

      I’ll be curious to see how the 1080 drag brake goes with the different motor too, mine has the same roll back using an RC4WD 35t Boost but no downhill roll, I dialled the throttle trim on the radio to stop it but I’m not sure that’s right.

    - The stock tires should be called "Ribbed" !!! ... Why Pin Seekers, I just don't "see it" !!!? 😆

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will 100% agree that "Pinseeker" is not a tire name. IMO, that is a bowling ball name. I would actually be surprised if there's NOT a bowling ball named the Pinseeker.
      Alright, I had to Google it. I'm a bowler and not a golfer, so golf didn't occur to me-- but a search for "pinseeker" is 99% golf. The tires come up WAAAAAAY down the search results.
      Oh, and there is a pair of bowling shoes called Pinseekers. So that's close.

    Would fix the gearing on the Reedy before the motor swap . . . .

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว

      As I would find out later, the size of the bearing seat in sealed can motors is such that you can't fit smaller than a 17T on the Reedy. Rebuildable endbell motors appear to have a smaller "nose" and can comfortably go down to 14T. Anything brushless (and therefore flat faced) can go to at least 12T. Limitation of the motor mount.

    Hey just picked up a se and the rear wheel being off is driving me crazy what length links do i need to fix that ?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Element knows what they've done-- they sell a kit with the links and a longer center shaft. alnk.to/5ufpwgy IIRC, the rear links for 12.8 are 114mm lowers and 108mm uppers, using Element rod ends.

    I just had another bad idea 💡 servo as motor?! Need to mod it to turn 360°, also would cover off your esc.

  • @ericstratten6974
    @ericstratten6974 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the timing of a brushed motor such that it effects the torque depending on direction of rotation? Should the motor leads be swapped and the ESC throttle channel be reversed. Might move the over-kill reverse punch to forward travel and improve drag brake? (I assume the 1080 drag brake is on MAX?)

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would, but I don't think there are any sealed cans with advanced timing. Spoilers, but there's only one sure thing to fix the drag brake and punchiness of the Reedy...

    Just got the 2.2 deep woods...those gents are huge!! Good thing they are going on an R1 buggy body. Hope they do well on Traxxas axles. What are your thoughts on foams? Thinking of trying my hand at printed "foams"??

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Duratrax does not mess around when it comes to stepping their 1.9s up to 2.2. The 2.2 Showdowns are also massive.
      Everyone raves about 3D printed "anti-foams" but they're outside of my comfort zone in terms of "price per unit." Putting in a "foam" that costs more than the tire it's filling is just weird to me.

    Your going to have to get a decent transmitter. Look into the dx5c. Think it holds up to 20? Models. Have to buy spektrum receivers but its decent. Don't get the rugged. It will be a 3 part episode about struggling with the touch screen

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a DX5C with a handful of receivers early into my crawler obsession, and one of my resolutions that year was to "rid my life of Spektrum." The 5 series has one of the clunkiest user interfaces I've ever encountered. My now vintage Sanwa MT-4 uses a very similar scroll wheel for menu navigation, but it not only works, but works really well. I've yet to meet a post-Horizon Spektrum product that I actually like.

  • @PerdueRC
    @PerdueRC 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Total noob here. Why vent the tires? Or do you have a video on that already?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tires come in three basic flavors: pneumatic, semi-pneumatic, and solid. There are pneumatic tires for toy cars, but that's something I can't comment on directly as I've as of yet been unwilling to spend the money on a set to test-- but do suspect... problems. Particularly side-hilling. We also don't deal in solid tires, as we're not operating forklifts.
      So we fall firmly semi-pneumatic-- all of our tires are filled with air, and them some other material to control the shape and overall behavior of the tire-- the insert. For that insert to function properly, it (in simplest terms) needs to be able to breathe. A non-vented tire is at the whims of the environment-- air temperature doesn't have to change much to cause a tire to swell or collapse. Also, it is close enough as to be impossible to stop water and debris from getting inside a tire. If that tire is not vented, that debris cannot get out, so it will just grind the insert into dust, like your very own tiny rock tumbler.
      All 1.9 tires get a pair of 4mm holes, 180º apart. Bigger 2.2 tires get four holes, 90º apart. All tires vented, always.
      TL;DR: vent all of your tires because they don't work properly otherwise.

      Apparently just something called springtails, or "snow fleas." I mean, I guess they come down in rain? Which is at the same time equal parts neat and somehow terrifying. I don't want bugs in my rain, harmless or not. I guess where it snows they get MILLIONS of them. Like one square foot is 4 million springtails or something.
