    My grandma had one which is probably why Im wanting to do this but also I never understood why people pay an arm and a leg when they could make one for half the cost and design it anyway you want it, which is part of the fun. I hope its as easy as you make it look.

    Nice build but the science of fire / combustion is not appreciated well.
    The reason we see smoke in the engine exhaust is due to unburn fuel.
    It is also the same with pits. Woods are not the fuel but the gas that it emits when they are heated. When that gas is properly mixed with lots of oxygen the you will achieve almost perfect combustion since wood is not perfect there will always be impurities. You could have spaced ur bricks allowing adequate ventilation / oxygen intake like when we put turbo into our car engines.
    Incomplete combustion leads to smoke. To minimize if not eliminate smoke, give more oxygen to the combustion.

    How do you drain rainwater? Does the fire breathe very well?

    How have the red clay bricks lasted? Any issues with cracking?

    In retrospect, would you have put in a hole for drainage from rain?

      I guess you can just keep it covered when not in use. I would put a tray inside maybe to help remove the ash.

    Have there been any issues or were you concerned about the use of standard bricks vs fire-bricks?

      As if bricks are less durable than the crap steel ones sold at all of the stores. Those rot out in a year or less.

    Hi, nice project. Small question, don't you think that the fire will melt the weed barrier that in underneath ? **Your dog is beautiful.

    • @MakeItNowchannel
      @MakeItNowchannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a good question. Those pavers under the pit are pretty thick. We don't use this fire pit for very long. Maybe burn through a couple logs at a time. Next time we use it I'll measure the temp of the pavers to see what we're working with. Thanks

    • @hoochrocks
      @hoochrocks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MakeItNowchannel They should stay cool as we checked the temp of our bricks last night, and they were cold to the touch.

  • @camwells9726

    Only issue I see , the bricks are laid on a flexible surface with movement , the pavers should have been laid into concrete first or pour a concrete footing as a base

      @@camwells9726 How long do you think someone needs a fire pit seriously? How long are people typically in one location? Around 11 years. Do you think it'll walk away before that? So you would rather suggest paying several hundred more for something that was very inexpensive, and functional? Come on.

    • @MakeItNowchannel
      @MakeItNowchannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A ton of weeds would grown up through the pavers since we don't use the pit most of the winter.

    • @anakonda3035
      @anakonda3035 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weed DOES grow through that!! I think it is a great idea, and would be doing the same.

    • @mr.c6674

      @@anakonda3035 , weeds will burn. And don't forget that the weed barrier will burn before stopping any weeds.
      Typically weeds go dormant in colder months, so there will not be any growth then either.
