Here in San Diego we had 91X, a station along with the mighty KROQ up the freeway, that was playing previously unheard bands with all new unheard sounds and looks. There were only about 12 such stations in the entire country at the time. Think of what the rest of the country missed out on.
This song should have been a big hit! It’s catchy and has a dance club Beat! Why it was ignored and missed the mark is beyond me! Somebody dropped the ball!
This song brings back a lot of memories of early MTV even though they didn't play black music during that time that's why they had to start bet now shut up even David Bowie said it in a MTV interview
This is quintessential '80s: the high-pitched vocal strain, the stiff chorus, the back-to-basics backbeat, the Beatles and Bowie influence-it's all there. This was spun at my college frat's "rush" party as freshmen lined up for beer and apps, and it fit the mood perfectly. Thanks for posting!
I like them. I was very young and for me, as soon as Queen Staying Alive the the airwaves that was all she wrote. The Rats were ahead of their time. This is more progressive rock reminds me of the Talking Heads, BUT BEFORE Progressive Rock was a” THING”.
Something tells me you're confusing Queen's epic "Keep Yourself Alive" with the BeeGees' dreadful disco slop, "Stayin' Alive." One is a powerful and enduring rock anthem driven by Freddie Mercury's incredible vocal range and sheer, raw power, and Brian May's incendiary guitar chops; the other was a cheesy piece of commercial garbage, and was created solely for the purpose of cashing in on the popularity of "disco."🤣
They played this song on Sirius 33 and I couldn't believe that I'd forgotten about this one! I was only about 9 when it was out & I'd thought it was by Talking Heads (?!). Just learning all about this cool stuff that I didn't hear on "ordinary" radio stations but on this new one I'd heard about called CFNY... And my ears were glued to that station for the rest of the 80s.
Probably to understand that tune, you had to sit in front of a colored TV in the early 80's after takin a shower and ready to go to the city to find what you're looking for!
All these mentions of Jim Rome, but it was Sublime’s “Don’t Push” that brought this song to my attention… a band that incidentally has a singer now named Rome 🤔
Post-punk perfection. It has it all. The video is pretty awesome too, Geldorf rolling around with some snakes. Reference to Joe in the middle is to Shoeless Joe Jackson, White Sox player accused of throwing the 1919 World Series.
I have no idea why my co-workers find it bizarre that I listen to this song several times each night... Maybe it's the mouse ears & nose I wear... Or my weird dancing... Or the fact that I work at the morgue...
In high-school I remember dating a girl named Vickie.. She liked this song. One Friday night she was babysitting her brother. Her parents weren't going to be home until Sunday morning. She invited me over after she put her brother to bed. I snuck out of the house after my parents went to bed. When I got to her house, she was watching Friday Night videos.. I didn't get home until 4:30am. When I got in my room, I turned on the radio and this song was on. I changed the lyrics to "Phuc all Night- ooh, I Phuct Vickie all night." Great songs for great memories..
Wrong. Actually they were well known for their Hit "I Don't Like Mondays" and for a few other tunes that were frequently played on FM radio in the late 70's & on MTV back in the early 80's...which was way before Jim Rome .
Jim Rome for life!
Jim Rome played this for years before his final segment. Ultra catchy
Still does
How I first heard this song like 13 years ago when I would listen to his show in my car on the way to work.

Wow, I looked up this song today to find out it wasn't. It didn't even chart. Honestly shocking, I wonder why I thought it was bigger than it is
