I read Daniel Deronda for victober and it was really engaging once I got into it, and one I can't stop thinking about. Thank you for the recommendations!
Lovely to see 2 of my 3 favourite Dickens novels mentioned in this video :-) And sooooo many Hardy books to add to my TBR list! I can recommend "The Dead Secret" by Wilkie Collins.
Great video! I have to say that I didn't knew Our Mutual friend until I found your channel and I'll buy myself a copy in Christmas. Besides, I'd preffer Shirley Esther than Jane Eyre. Best regards!
If you have read the better known ones by Wilkie Collins, I would suggest 'The Law and the Lady' which has one of the first ever female detectives, who is trying to clear her husbands name (Though her husband is a bit of a prick if I'm honest), Poor Miss Finch, ( In which a blind girl goes through an experimental operation to regain her sight, only to accidently fall for her fiances twin brother) and my very favourite Man and Wife, which is an attack on Scotlands marriage laws in which you only had to stay overnight in a room with another woman and then you were married. People are accidently getting married all over the place in this novel then it descends into pure Hammer Horror. It's Fab, Enjoy!
I'd really like to read more some Wilkie Collins. The Law and the Lady, Poor Miss Finch and Man and Wife sounds really interesting. Have you read Collins's Two Destinies? I found that one rather odd!
No I haven't read that one, but I'll look out for it. I see someone else recommended Armadale, I totally second that. It has such a brilliant anti heroine in it, almost a proto Victorian femme fatale called Lydia Gwilt who has Pre Raphaelite red hair, is addicted to laudanum and is totally ruthless, but she is such an appealing and understandable character you end up rooting for her more than the hero.
Well because I have currently only read three Wilkie Collins novels - two of which were The Moonstone and The Woman in White, which are both very famous, and the other of which was The Two Destinies, which I didn't like and have no interest in recommending.
Who were the most well-known Vic novelists who were not mntned here? I'd venture Thackeray & Stevenson. Relatively speaking, what are the most underrated novels by these 2?
No idea, I've only read their well-known works, Vanity Fair by Thackery and Doctor Jekyl and Mr Hide and Treasure Island by Stevenson. I liked all of them, but these authors are not my favourites.
Villette is probably my favourite Charlotte Bronte novel and I’m so happy to hear it appreciated 😁
It is such a brilliant, brilliant book :)

Little Dorrit was such a good book. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read Bleak House next by Dickens.

For the love of classics very true , it is sad that Little Dorrit is underrated

I would like to add Wilkie Collins' 'Armadale" to your list, it's an exciting, unpredictable, page-turner.
I'd love to read it in future :)
K ROBSON I read Armadale.Excellent novel.I've read at least 20 Wilkie Collins novels.
Great video! I have to say that I didn't knew Our Mutual friend until I found your channel and I'll buy myself a copy in Christmas. Besides, I'd preffer Shirley Esther than Jane Eyre. Best regards!
I really hope you like it! I enjoy Shirley too.
The Dead Secret by Wilkie Collins is great fun.
I'll look it up!
You look like Mary Bennet from Pride and Prejudice lol
I mean, that is basically the look I'm going for.
I'm 2 minutes in, and I'm making a bet with myself that Our Mutual Friend is going to come up.
Update: I won.
No surprises there :D
