Alec was so kind with her in a first moment.
Wolf with sheep´s skin, he ruined Tess forever.

First of all, hans matheson is so hot and his acting drives me crazy! I bow to him for the brilliant acting on this show! I felt passion and different emotions with this character. Alec was a grey character!
He needed to be loved, and since he had not received it, he was trying to get revenge by being bad! alec was rough because tess didn't give him love back and wasn't kind to him! Tess was the victim of her stupid and selfish parents and poverty and living conditions And especially her husband! But in my opinion, from the very beginning, she knew what was going on ! And her husband, Angel, was more cruel than Alec! It was a stupidity to forgive him! Of course, there were many irrationalities in this novel! The final part of this story was a little weak and hasty for me! The actors in the roles of Angel and Tess are lovely and good But they are not attractive enough for these characters! But the Actor in Alec's role in all directions is great

Ich habe nie verstanden warum sie Angel immer verziehen hat. Vielleicht war die Zeit damals so. Aber Tess tut mir leid. Sie hat nur Pech. Verliert ihren Sohn.

I liked more Alec from 1998 version (please do not kill me)). This 2008 Alec is meaner and more nervous and hysterical and I got an impression that he didn't love Tess at all and that he was only obsessed by the idea of conquering her.
While 1998 Alec's love for Tess is more evident. And he tells her some true things about Angel. And he is much pleasanter. And it makes for me the ending stronger. Because it was so absurd of Tess to kill him. And she did it only because she was convinced by Angel that only thus she could get rid of her ''sin". And thus it is revealed clearer that the true man who broke Tess's life was Angel.
(just the same story but from quite different angles)

my god have you read the book ???? in it he WAS only obsessed with conquering her and he was a total creep, also he literally rapes her and it leaves her traumatised how tf is his death “absurd”. while angel is definitely a dick in his own way, he wasnt monstrous like alec and hardy intended for him to represent tess’ ideal lover, while alec only wished to use her. you get the impression that he doesnt love tess at all because thats exactly how he feels, alec only wants to fuck her. the 2008 version is a fairly accurate representation of hardys vision, dont know how you can have seen multiple adaptations of this novel and have these opinions lmao.

Alec took advantage of her though. He was never meant to be likeable. She was so young, and he ruined her. I think they made 1998 Alec a bit too sympathetic and this 2008 Alec too unsympathetic.

@@peko2292 Both Alecs are generally not likeable, I only meant that I felt more love for Tess from Alec of 1998. But he raped her and it doesn't make him likeable anyway. Only this is still not a reason to kill him after he did his best to amend. And 1998 Alec was trying to amend harder than this one (I felt so)

@@polinamarchenko1007 I’m not sure if you read the book but Alec completely ruined her, not just once but twice. He pretended to “convert” from his bad ways, but the moment he saw Tess again, he couldn’t control himself, and he made it seem like she was the one who tempted him to “sin”, which is disgusting. She just existed and BREATHED, and told him over and over again to leave her alone. He wouldn’t and went after her family, and kept tempting her to live with him as his mistress. It was about his own desires and his need to control/have her, even if it cost her her reputation, and made her miserable. None of that mattered to him. I agree with you on Angel. But Alec was never meant to be seen as “repentant” or that he changed his ways. The fact that he cast of his religious guise the moment he saw her was supposed to show this to us. Maybe it wasn’t clear in the 1998 version.

@@peko2292 Yes, I agrre with you in everything about Alec - if to discuss the book and the way the characters are depicted in the book. I like your analysis very much =))
But these movie adaptations always change something. And in 1998 they really altered Alec making him milder and more likeable. And I sort of liked this alteration - because (from my point of view) it revealed Angel's character clearer - revealed better that he was not a kind "angel" at all.. I think that in 1998 adaptation they showed well that evil can have different faces. It can be evidently mean - like Alec's. And it can be disguised under goodness and sweetness - like Angel's. And who knows which one is better.
By the way, it is nice to discuss such things with you =))

The 1998 version was superior in every way. Matheson is too attractive and Redmayne not enough. Justine Waddell deserved an award of some kind for her sensitive Tess.

@@Dayana_banana Maybe you find the actor likeable? But Alec never truly changed. He took advantage of her until the very end, and she was never going to be happy with him, especially not as his mistress. She only stayed with him because he got to her poor family. I agree her husband was a hypocrite. He abandoned her when she told him the truth, at a time when he should have supported her instead. But Alec never gave Tess any dignity or truly cared about her feelings. He was obsessed with having her whatever the means.

@@peko2292 its no about his face! Wtf! Alec Loved Tess, Love is not the same for everybody and didnt born in the same way, obsession is also a kind of love, believe it or not, their beggining wasnt the best, i agree, but they were meant to be, trust me, in life, there is a secret code: if it happens once, is a coincidence but if it happens twice is a sign
