Aaj Jane Ki Zid Na Karo - Habib Wali Muhammad - Live in New Jersey - Feb. 2010

Remembering Habib Wali Muhammad. I wish to especially bring this ghazal to the attention of my friends in India who are not usually aware that this very popular ghazal "Aaj Jane ki Zid Na Karo" was originally sung by Habib Wali in Pakistani Flim BADAL AUR BIJLI released in 1995. In India it got associated with Farida Khanum (who is a great singer too) but the history behind it is worthy of note. I have recently got connected with Habib Wali's sons Nadeem Wali Mohammad and Rizwan Wali Muhammad Tabani - who are worthy sons of their illustrious father and sing his ghazals with great refinement, sounding almost like him - which is a great blessing for us, the fans. I had the pleasure of sharing these videos with his sons. The footage is a bit shaky as no cameras were allowed and I only got special permission from the great maestro. I did not have a tripod, however, which is regrettable. I held the camcorder as steady as I could by hand.

On February 22nd I had the good fortune to meet my favorite ghazal singer for the last three decades - Habib Wali Muhammad. I had taped his program on Bombay TV in 1978, which is when I was first acquainted with brilliant rendition of the songs of Zafar and Raaz Allahabadi. I was happy to hand him a CD of that. At 85 his voice is practically unchanged and he is more of an entertainer than I had imagined. I will put some more clips on here.
