Habib Wali Mohammad is a very senior and highly regarded Pakistani ghazal singer.
Habib Wali belongs to the Tabani family, an industrial house with large business holdings in Pakistan. (His brother Ashraf Tabani was governor of the province of Sindh around 1988.)
Born in 1921, he received his MBA from Syracuse University in 1947, and then lived in Bombay for about 10 years before moving to Pakistan. He is practically from the very second group of singers to ever record the art from and is still at his peak today. But probably because of his background and place as a member of a well-established family, Habib Wali has never pursued as aggressive and mainstream a career as a singer as others, though is still very highly regarded.
He is especially well known for singing famous ghazal of last Moghul Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, Lagta Nahin Hai Jee Mera Ujray Diyar Mein. Habib Wali Mohammad is a rare ghazal singer who managed to be a singer and a businessman.
Habib was born in Rangoon in 1921. His family name was Tabani, though he became famous as Habib Wali Mohammad. His family migrated to Bombay, where he took classical music lessons from Ustad Latafath Husain, nephew of Ustad Fayyaz Khan. But due to economic reasons, he gave priority to academics. His musical activities were limited to singing ghazals in college functions. After completing bachelors in Bombay, he studied for his MBA in USA. In mid forties he returned to Bombay.
In Bombay he participated in a large music competition, where he won the first prize. This propelled him to release his first album of ghazals. This record was to make him a celebrated singer. After partition, his family migrated to Pakistan and established an industrial group. He gave most of his time to the family business, recording ghazals and geet-s for films in his spare time. Concerts though were limited. In the eighties he released an album of ghazals composed by Nisar Bazmi.
He has been awarded the Nigar award. His famous ghazals include Bahadur Shah Zafar's Na kisi ki Aankh ka noor hoon and Qamar Jalalavi's Kab mera nasheman ahelay chaman. He is now retired and lives in California with his family.
His other well known ghazal includes "Aaj jane ki zidd na karo"
I was blessed to have attended his private singing concert in Houston, Texas in 1983 at a local doctor's home.

Remember when I was 14 my Dad R.I.P. use to have his friends every Friday and Saturday night play cards and boy they used to get loud and these ghazals play all night we had one TV in living room MTV was a big thing in 80s and I used to say what the hell they listen this shit all the time now I’m 55 and know the means of poetry beautiful time has change but oldies still rocking remind me my Dad love from Dallas Tx Y’all.

My dad introduced me to Habeeb Wali Muhammad, He passed away few months ago. May Allah forgive him and enter him in Jannah. This song reminds me of him so much. Especially the part where he says "Ab naza'a ka alam hai mujh par, tum apni muhabbat wapis lo" :(

Pthis ghazal took me 50 years back in Lahore Pakistan, when we used to listen with my parents and siblings in the winter nights, sitting around heater...what a magical voice..

Whenever I listen to this unique ghazal I feel like that Bhadhar shah Zafar is singing from his heart ❤️ and soul almost 350 years ago.
I took him in my car to his concert once with his son. I carefully put his harmonium in trunk. Very humble person. Good memory.

about 35 years ago my father use to listen to habib sahib and then i fell in love with habib sahibs gaiki and awaz its been very long time today after at least 20 years i am listening to this legend love you sir may Allah give you health and very very long life

نانا جان ، نانی جان مرحومین بہت سنتے تھے ۔ بچپن سے مجھے بھی بہت لگاؤ ہوگیا تھا حبیب صاحب کی گائیکی سے ۔ پھر ان کے خاندان پہ ڈسکشن ہوا کرتی تھی ماموں کے ساتھ ۔۔۔ آہ کتنے خوبصورت دن تھے ۔ اب نا وہ لوگ رہے اور نا وہ گائیکی نا وہ کلام ۔۔۔

My elder brother who died in 2002 used to listen this Ghazal. This Ghazal remind me my brother. Habib sb was engineer by profession but was a unique singer too.
He was a business major.
And he earned degree of mba from usa before partition

Ustaad Qamar Jalalavi is at his best in this ghzal, and Habib shaib ne bih Khoob gya ha.
The poet Qamar Jalalvi was not given proper recognition. The poor thing was simply a bicycle repairer.

Ustad Qamar Jalvi sb ki lazawal poetry, performed by a few singers. First by Habib sb, the most energetic performance i think is by Ataullah Essakhelve. The classical performance is beyond doubt this one.
