How to Sew a Basic Scarf / Sash 🧣 Easy Sewing Project Tutorial

DIY a basic scarf / sash! Sew your own instead of buying one. This can be worn around the neck, as a headband, tied to your handbag as an embellishment, or around the waist as a belt. Stay tuned to the end where I show a few ways to style your new scarf. This is a beginner simple sewing project as part of our Learn to Sew in 2020 series with the Brother CS7000i sewing machine.
For this sewing tutorial, I used woven rayon challis fabric (non-stretchy). I would not recommend quilting cotton or stretchy / knit fabric for this project. Choose a lighter weight material such as rayon, cotton voile, or poplin / lawn - something with drape that doesn't wrinkle easily after laundering.

When you get to the opening, stop with the needle down, pivot and sew to the edge. Skip the opening, start sewing at the edge and sew to the seam. Leave the needle down, pivot and sew. Makes it easier to fold under once it is turned, especially if the fabric is tricky or the opening is long.
