Wow that sheik part made me realize what a cool stage bongo bongos drum would make. Imagine him showing up from the shadowy background and beating the drum making everyone bounce. I would trade that for gerudo canyon any day.
@@MrMockRockYou should definitely make a follow-up to this video, mainly because the idea is just too much for a side-mode, so why not imagine Smash as a team fighter? A cool spin-off imo.
As one of the dozen or so people who plays and loves F-Zero to care about Captain Falcon over his Smash identity, the idea here is solid. I would just call it "Boost Power". I'd argue that the phrase "You got boost power!" after the first lap of any 3D game is iconic in F-Zero.
39:32 Honestly, if it were up to me? I'd just make both Pyra and Mythra's assist Rex. Would be pretty fun seeing him play the assist role Pyra and Mythra technically do more of in XB2. Plus, since they share a lifeforce, damage to him is damage to them, so not like he'd make them unpunishable. Anchor Shot would probably be a good one for him, but his assist COULD also change a bit depending on if Pyra or Mythra was selected first. He could do Double Spinning Edge, a slower and more powerful version with Pyra, and a quicker but harder to punish and weaker version with Mythra.
I thought about that, but the twist of having two assists was already enough, I thought having two that _also_ each brought in another character, well... actually the same character, but he works a bit different... would be a little messy. I think the split character is enough of a hook as is
@@jamainegardner4193 Anchor shot is also a really great callout here because it's a generically useful enough move for it to be desirable regardless of which aegis you have in reserve. Getting something that's essentially a joker grapple on every character would be fantastic for extending combos and advantage, though I don't think it would have much recovery utility since he's the one firing it-- not you.
How funny would it be if in the next Smash game Alear becomes a character but none of the old Fire Emblem characters show up. Instead, they all become a part of Alear's moveset through the Emblem Ring
There's NO WAY this would ever happen, but imagine if the characters who can reasonably talk would call out the character's name MvC3 style. Hearing the name of some of my favorite characters coming out of ANOTHER one of my favorite characters as they work a combo together... I would die. Not everyone would have it, either being mute, mostly mute, or... an animal, but hey.
Crossover interactions are definitely one of the things Smash is still lagging behind on, yep, Brawl got the closest but games like Multiversus have absolutely done the concept more justice
@MrMockRock Definitely, that and PSASBR's stages. Smash handles characters with insane amounts of respect but it would be nice to see some more direct series crossing. It would definitely be a nightmare to figure out for some characters both legally and voice-acting wise, but I feel like if they can bring Captain Falcon's voice actor back in after more than a decade to... slurp some noodles for Min Min's trailer, I'd like to think MAYBE it wouldn't be too far fetched. Talking a hypothetical of a hypothetical at this point though, haha.
16:01 Mewtwo being named Abadango is so cool Also I love this video concept. The idea of calling in the other characters like in MvC or DBFZ just sounds fun
The best part about Fraymakers is introducing the idea of assists to the platform fighter genre! The new Smash game having a mix of assists and the slime meter from NASB2 would make it Perfect for both the casual and competitive crowd!
Personally, in an assist direction Ness would’ve been interesting to focus more on defensive healing play as that’s how he’s more designed in EarthBound. Teleport movement sounds fun, but it’d be more canonically faithful (albeit probably more broken) if healing was the one we went with, especially since teleportation is technically already referenced with Ness already in his entrance animation
@@Driff97 The thing is when Ness and Lucas (And also Ninten but he isn't in this game) are all the healers, I feel at least one of them deserves it, just make it heal a max total of 5% or so, maybe even having it heal less when you're at lower percents, that way it isn't TOO broken.
I don't like to double comment, but I finished the video, and I have a different idea for Incineroar's Assist (For the record, I quite like the one you made) A very common doubles strategy in Pokemon with Incineroar is to use Parting Shot to switch out. This strategy is so common that it's well known in both competitive and casual spheres. In Smash, it could function as a simple "I take 25% less damage for 3 seconds". It would be a solid reference to a move in the games, reference the switching functionality like Volt Switch does, and would be a good nod to Pokemon's "team" format in Doubles. However, it does have less personality than a lot of other options. Maybe it can taunt you in a similar way to how your idea has it taunt.
The way you described nasty plot sounds more like foul play to be honest, which I think would be a much more fitting move for incineroar given it's an actual attack, and not related to the special stat which he doesn't make use of
Moving Squad Strike from King of Fighters into Marvel vs Capcom territory I see, should be interesting. I wonder if this concept would be well suited for a game that blurs the line a bit between platform fighter and traditional fighting game… Edit: Some notes now that I’ve finished the video: - Daisy I personally think should stick to more sports game stuff then go into Mario Party, the Dice Block grab seems more like a Waluigi move than Daisy. I think that she could have a baseball bat swing that smashes through shields instantly if it hits one, since that’s a niche I noticed few assists ended up filling. - I’m not in love with using the Engage Attacks for the FE assists, I feel like most of those are better for Final Smashes, outside of Byleth’s since it’s not an attack, that can probably stay. (Edit 2: After thinking about it for a bit, I think giving Byleth the Aura spell could be a good alternative, since they don’t get to use any magic in their main moveset.) For other options, Marth could do a shield bash with his Fire Emblem, the Binding Shield, to attack while protecting you which fits his character, while Lucina could have a Dual Guard to reference one of Awakening’s Pair Up mechanics, a pivot story moment from that game, and her Emblem self’s abilities. Roy could have his sword’s flame wave projectile that is missing from his moveset, and Chrom could do a far-reaching diving spear attack like in Project X Zone. I’d also have Robin use your Rally Spectrum idea, since that skill is more also associated with them then Chrom and fits their nature as a tactician. Ike and Corrin’s assists are perfect, though. - One fun detail that could be good for Bowser Jr’s assist is for when it’s used, have the Clown Car alone show up, tilt 90 degrees, and shoot the current pilot out while they spin in their shell. - For Min Min’s assist, make the attacking arm be the one that her Dragon Arm appears on, so if she has it active when she’s called in, her assist would be powered up.
I had a bit of an idea for a work for Sonic - in Frontiers, Cyloop isn’t really primarily an offensive tool. It launches enemies into the air for easier attacks, and is the main way of nullifying some enemies’s otherwise impenetrable defenses. It could be interesting to make it a move that does no (or very little) damage, but still pops the opponents hit upward in hitstun. The interesting thing would be that it bypasses a lot of options like super armor and shields. (Through dodging would still work - having a universal trump card against defensive options would probably be a nightmare to balance in any scenario.) It wouldn’t be enough hitstun to land anything you want for free, but everyone on the cast could get at least _some_ value from it. Command grabs are really the only fast attacks that can’t be beaten by shielding all the time, so I think this could be interesting. Also somewhat reinforces Sonic’s blazing fast fighting style without leaning too far into his… less than enjoyable playstyle in Smash.
For the Mii fighters, think pulling from Miitopia would be the best call especially since 2/3 fighters have classes that could directly translate to them Swordfighter, I'd Give them Jump Slash, where Mii Swordfighter jumps high above the stage, lingers above for a brief period (think the timing and airtime of kazuya's heavens door/rage drive), and slashes down, having good damage and kill power, excelling in combo ending and some reversal potential, but requiring planning and setup time to take advantage of it. Mii Gunner Would get Human Cannonball, a skill taken from the Tank Class, And does exactly what it says on the tin, spawing behind and Grabbing the player who called them in, and firing them horizontally, and will continue travelling until either hitting a wall or player, cancelling out of it with any action (note that even if done on the ground you would still be considered airborne) of exiting the cannonball form after a set period of time, which wouldnt put you in freefall, the catch being that this would inflict a not-insignificant amount of damage on the player every time it was used. As for brawler, despite not having a miitopia class to pull from, I'd still pull from it for the assist in the form of a passive from the stubborn personality trait, simply called stubbornness, where mii brawler spawns behind you and strikes an angry pose, and if you threw out an attack that wasn't A) a traditional projectile Or B) a chargeable attack that isn't a smash attack, you would cut off the endlag of your first attack, and do the same attack again with less start-up, but slightly less knockback, and half the damage of the base attack, sort of a fusion between Byleth's assist, and Guilty Gear's roman cancel system, leading to strong combo extensions and enders, as well as a boon to recovery if cancelled out of specials.
I do like the idea of making Ganondorf's assist a big slow powerful move. That'd be a good way to keep that overwhelming power theme, even if you rework his moveset. After all, if it's an assist you could juggle someone into as it's not your character who to be stuck in place for over a second.
This is a really neat concept. I've thought about what if every character had an air smash attack like in Slap City. For that to work, I would make smash attacks their own button, and some examples I thought of include Megaman shooting a charge shot in midair, Robin being able to freely switch between broad and Levin sword attacks in midair, Gannondorf throwing a lighting ball at a downwards angle, Samus swinging her arm cannon forwards like her melee counter in Dread, and Dark Samus sprouting Phazon tentacles all over their body.
Jsyk, rally spectrum comes from Robin’s half of chrom and Robin in engage, not chrom. He could do aether. Not the animation that is Ike and chrom’s up special, and not his final smash, but a move that actually has the aether effect from fire emblem In FE, aether is a skill that, when it activates, deals 2 hits, 1 having the Luna effect and the other having a sol effect Luna and sol are 2 different fire emblem skills, Luna dealing damage as if the enemy’s defense either was half or was 0, and sol healing the user equivalent to either half or all damage dealt (specifics of both depends on the game) This could be a 2 hit move, the first hit breaking shields and the second hit healing for half damage dealt, or full damage if the character being attacked is shield broken. These 2 attacks would have a delay and the 1st hit would have high knock back, so you could only get both effects at once if you land a shield break Robin can get rally spectrum, it fits the tactician concept better
It's a reasonable option and one of my patrons brought this up as well. The reasons I went with Chrom for Rally Spectrum are a) at the end of the day it's still his ring, and b) losing one sword slash isn't that big a deal, losing the series' only chance to do some magic does sting a bit though. As for the Aether suggestion, I considered it, but it's got a lot of overlap, and the shield breaker aspect is also one that really worries me for an Assist. I ended up not giving that ability to anyone, Ridley and Ganondorf could do it reasonably well but I still stopped short of saying "this breaks shields" outright. Believe me, the Fire Emblem characters irritated me in this video no matter what lol, they were _so close_ to having a great running theme connecting all of them
@@MrMockRock Another possible option for Chrom would be to pull from his gimmick in Heroes where he can reposition an ally and can act again after. Could be implemented by having Chrom move your playable character forwards or backwards and then rushing in for an attack
@@MrMockRockThis video surely took a lot of work if you had to scramble THAT hard to give everyone an assist for Smash Obviously, this idea works better for a smaller roster. Not only would overlap be less common and animations be less of an issue, but balancing all of it would be easier (synergies with 89 fighters is a lot).
@@MrMockRockone thing with rally spectrum is that it is a skill from fire emblem awakening chrom and robins home games And in that game you can only get access to skills through classes and while robin has can reclass into basically any class of the game he (and his kid Morgan) have a unique class of grandmaster, which makes him (and his kid) the only ones to get rally spectrum In Fire Emblem Fates, where Robin is a dlc unit, their unique class is again Grand master with their capstone skill (highest level skill in the highest class) again being rally spectrum The engage ring also is very explicitly for chrom and robin as half its skills (including rally spectrum) come from robin and the other half from chrom For things More unique to chrom, you mentioned why aether wouldn't be a good fit there are other options There are three possible skills 1. Dual Strike+ making it more likely to perform a dual strike, although I wouldn't know how apart from the name and a generic attack he would perform assist Edit: I just thought of a way to include this mechanic by activating a time during which chrom would appear behind you for either every attack you perform or every hit you connect and add some extra damage. This would be faithful to both how it works in Awakening and Engages Chrom and Robin Ring. But maybe you have a better idea 2. Charm boosts the hit and avoid stat of units in a 3 tile range of Chrom. You could maybe translate the hit and avoid part into either movement- and/or airspeed or just maybe endlag reduction, which sounds crazy but at least faithful. He could apply the effect either completely passively or you could place him on the battlefield where he would grant an aura in which the effect would be active This effect also is especially in fan projects effectively synonymous with the lord class which chrom is a prototypical example of 3. Rightful King boosts the activation rate of % proc skills like Astra, Sol, Luna or Aether by 10% You could translate the effect into smash by giving special moves a dmg boost or some other cool effect for a duration and to up the chances of moves like Luigi Misfire and G&W 9. This skill is his capstone skill like rally spectrum is for robin and also is used for his S Rank Bond Ring (essentially weaker Engage Rings) from Engage I would also like to propose a more gameplay faithful adaptation of Aether in which after activation the next 2 moves of the front character would get empowered, with the first healing for half (that's how it is in Fe you could change it for balance) of the percent dealt and the next one dealing 50% more damage. You could also name this assist Aether+Rightful King to differentiate it from other versions of Aether Sorry for the very long read but thank you for the incredible video^^
One change for the Assist will be for Ness, since PK Rockin (Ness' Signature PSI Ability.) Isn't used in Smash, I think I will include that as an assist by having Ness Sending out a moderate blast of energy full of colors that Reference the PK Rockin Animation in Earthbound.
8:55 counter point: maybe that could be why some assists could be game changing, that could also add more dept to assists as you could have that be a double edge sword of having a powerful assists on what could be considered "weaker" fighters making players choose to have a strong 3rd fighter or 2 good ones and have the last used JUST for that powerful assists
To be fair, the ice missile was only in 2 games. The ice beam with your probably thinking of was in several. The missile version was only in fusion and red because the events of fusion left her unable to use a standard ice beam.
Captain Falcon giving you a sort of Turbo Mode as a buff really fits the nature of his games, you basically represented Boost Power, I could see Falcon receiving damage as a sacrifice to give you the Boost Power buff like how boosting in F-Zero drains your Power meter. We all love risk and reward right?
Squad Strike is the best mode introduced in Ultimate and it was so criminally underused but with so much potential (this is a common issue with the franchise, just look at Smash Run...) Starting by it not being available online which hurts its it's popularity among players.
If Inceneroar doesn’t get parting shot I will be highly disappointed after all he’s a support Pokemon in competitive Pokemon Edit: you didn’t give him that!!? Inceneroar is a physical attacker not a special attacker why use a special attack boosting move!!?
You never know. Maybe so the opponent thinks it's going to do a physical attack, then set up with a physical tank, who would be forced to switch out. Mental games, basically
A couple reasons: 1. Because VGC has absolutely no bearing on their Smash interpretation whatsoever in my eyes. I brought up Volt Switch’s competitive use as an aside, but I didn’t pick it because of that. This is also consistent with how Pokémon are already designed in Smash, many of which need to be solidified before they’re even playable in their home series. 2. Because Pikachu got their first and I think this tag-out concept makes more sense to represent on the speedy electric type. 3. Because Nasty Plot sounds more fun
@@MrMockRock fair enough I just feel like one of the most “hatted” “op” Pokemon in competitive should get something representing it. That and the effect of Parting shot would fit perfectly on a assist move
Cool video, Mock. I appreciate your idea for Daisy, especially pulling from MP, but I'd personally go with her inflecting the opponent with Creep Dice, temporarily slow their movement.
I feel like this could be a cool mod if it just lets you input one of their special moves with an unused button. Like if Mario is your assit you can use fire ball or cape. Of course stuff like fludd would be difficult to code it would be worth it for things like monado on all characters
Pyra/Mythras assist should be them BEING the blades they are by either just tethering with an ether line that buffs you if you stick close or by the giving you their swird for a BIG attack like what they do in their game
This idea right here is probably the reason why assists aren't in Smash yet. The roster is so big, that a lot of animations might be needed to make assists work. Your idea is case and point, since every fighter would need to catch the sword, attack with it and drop it. With less fighters, it could certaintly work, and it might even compensate the smaller roster. It might also make then easier to balance (that's important as well).
@@lucaantinori4834 Idk I think in this instance the swords would orbit the user like Pyra's neutral special, preventing the need for specific character animations.
I've actually had the idea of "what if Smash Bros had assists" so this video was a very pleasant surprise. Honestly I think Squad Strike could become a highlight of the next Smash Bros game if they added Assists.
I kinda wish that for Pythra they would just give you their sword, since that’s what they do in their home series. Like, make it essentially an item pull where Pyra’s sword is stronger and Mythra’s sword sends at better combo arcs. Probably not balanced, but it would be funny. Plus, I think an item pull assist would be cool.
15:50 they are pretty good in tag fighters since they can negate many of their weaknesses. Give him something similar to Big Band's H Brass Knuckle assist, Huge armored advancing burst attack. This give him a really powerful niche of being able to shut down other assists on reaction. You can't get lazy with your assist call with something like that around.
This is actually a really cool idea, I thought it would just be giving everyone a new attack part 2, but this is very unique and entertaining. This is what happens every time mockrock uploads.
really great video! the only one that i really disagree with is joker’s, which should absolutely be Down Shot. it could be a slower but powerful gunshot that shield breaks, alluding to its canon ability of knocking down (nearly) any opponent. still a fantastic video and a great time. love your work!
watching this as pretty much exclusively a traditional fighting game player, it's interesting to see that a lot of these ideas incorporate movement into the mix, sometimes even JUST being mobility tools. on my side of the fence, assists are one of two things usually (combo extension or screen control) so honestly seeing somebody adapt assists to a smash bros. environment and putting so much focus on mobility really helps enforce just how important it is to the game/genre as a whole. by extension: i find it interesting that, at least from what i've seen and what i remember, fraymakers' assists function more in the traditional fighting game school of design, but it's been a while since i've checked up on that game so who knows what they've added.
A platform team fighter is literally my dream game so I'm super excited for this video! Especially because assists in team games are usually just carbon copies of moves that the characters already have, and I always thought that was kinda a waste (except for in skull girls, where it's really cool b/c you can choose literally any move that a character has as an assist.)
These were great, though it feels odd seeing Mr. "Real Super Power of Teamwork" not having anything from the games that he actually teams up with his friends. I'd say something from Heroes would work really work well, probably the Blue Tornado, where he spins around in the air, creating a literal blue tornado. This would have some offensive capabilities, stunning the opponent as they get stuck in the tornado, while also having some recovery possibilities, as it would give the summoner a boost in height like he does with Tails and Knuckles. He's got some other team up games as well, like Sonic Advance 3, but Heroes definitely has the most diverse moveset of them, plus it's by far the most "power of friendship" Sonic game. I mean, when Metal, *the main villan of the game* asks how he lost and Sonic just responds with "Because, we're Sonic Heroes!", it's pretty impossible to argue against it lmao. Other than that though, these ideas seem really neat. Though, wasn't Samus' Ice Missle in Sm4sh as a custom move? Just a question I was curious about.
Sorry, I worded the beginning a bit weirdly. I meant a game where Sonic actively teams up with friends in the gameplay, allowing you to control 2-3 different characters. Just thought I'd clarify.
Following up on Byleth getting a defensive assist, I think him using Divine Pulse on you would be just as interesting. It would reverse your own position for a second or two while undoing half the damage you took in that time, meaning that it could still be used as a recovery tool. Maybe instead of a long cooldown it could be limited to a certain number of times per match like it is for maps in Three Houses.
Never even thought about using Assists for future Smash titles, but hey, I'm up for it! If many fighting games can make having characters Assist on the sidelines, so can Smash! And I really liked the way you incorporated each of the 89 Fighters from Ultimate, and how they could Assist in the games via their own home series while also trying to balance it out as much as possible! Once again outstanding Video, MockRock! 👍 (Oh, also, whoever told you that nobody likes Stall-Then-Fall Moves clearly haven't been using them enough as I've generally found them to be incredibly satisfying to use! XD Yeah, they leave you vulnerable as hell if they fail to hit, but so do a lot of other Attacks. But, I digress.)
I feel like assists would be a great way to get the pokemon trainer themselves to do something, like using a battle item to boost your stats. If smash did this but didn't want to make extra assists for transformation characters, i'd like to see them do this, and maybe even get Rex out for Pyra and Mythra's assist also imagine how cool it'd be if as kirby, you could copy your opponent's assist to use abilities you normally wouldn't have access to
I'm assuming that Bolganone uses a full Arcfire book, and if you're forced to start playing them before their assist meter fills back up you need to wait for the recharge?
I think for Terry, incorporating a lane change assist would be fun where he starts in the background and does a linging punch or kick as he transitions to the main plane. Granted, some stages don't work well with this in mind, but it would be a cool way to reference the original Fatal Fury games
For Incineroar, why not Taunt? Incineroar pops in right next to you, and does a taunt. If it goes off successfully, you get a buff like Oomph. If incineroar’s hit, it activates revenge. Incineroar’s a heel wrestler, not a villain, I think Taunt would should that off better.
An alternative idea I had with incineroar that has more to do with his gameplay identity than his wrestler theme -knock off: incin performs a chop attack with moderate but not great combo potential. However, if the opponent is holding an item, it becomes a strong kill move and they drop any items that they are holding before being launched. Great vs annoying item characters like rob while still having some utility elsewhere (also could be some insurance for having your item stolen if you're the one playing an item character)
I get why this had to happen, but it is unfortunate that the one representative for the Yoshi franchise gets a boring non-referential move. You could swap this out for having Yoshi fire an egg at a cloud, giving you an item to use. I really wish there were more Yoshi characters in the game...
Bowser Jr./The Koopalings should have a brief period at the end of their attack where they are vulnerable. Because most of the time in their boss fight you are waiting for them to jump out of their shell to hit them. Aerial version should be the bouncing variant of the attack.
I would instead make Toon Link's a reference to Spirit Tracks. It would be call "Song of Discovery", if used on the ground then a rocket-shaped statue appears and shoots a laser out of screen prior to blasting itself upwards. If used on the air then the rocket comes flying either from under you or from above you, if it collides with the ground then an small explosion appears.
I didn't watch the whole video yet while writing this comment but since Sakurai added mechanics from the Kirby franchise like dropping though platforms, I think he would do the same with assists and make the assists unharmable Pre-edit: I'm not exactly sure that would be the case but I just had that to say
I really love the concept of this video, and I think most of these ideas sound cool! For Pyra/Mythra, I would have gone with Rex’s Anchor Shot, the properties of which could change depending on which of them is the lead character. This feels fitting because Anchor Shot is maybe the most iconic Art from the Aegis Sword weapon type and provides a ton of utility in that game. Pyra/Mythra leap out with Rex while providing him their energy so he can perform the attack. Rex fires his grappling hook forward which works as a long-ranged hitgrab, similar to Isabelle’s fishing rod. Just like in XC2, he reels the opponent in before swatting them away with a huge swing and dropping behind a health potion that the active character can consume for minor healing. Pyra’s swing deals more knockback and launches with high knockback at a horizontal angle, while Mythra’s swipe is quick and launches upwards to start combos. This attack rolls a ton of utility into one attack, which plays into Pyra/Mythra’s role as the ultimate versatile swordfighter, but if Rex whiffs his shot, he’s stuck in a ton of lag as he reels the anchor back in, during which he and Pyra/Mythra can be punished.
i don’t mind how joker’s represented here, but it comes across as a bit generic to me - i’d love to see a representation of the persona series’s baton pass mechanic, where he uses a special move to stun the opponent and then leaves them at the mercy of the active character (preferably with a bespoke high five animation on the way out)
i would want Captain Falcon to actively just come in with a Falcon Punch, i get its not as fun as zooming around at mach 5 with a momentum boost, but actively being allowed to kill of an air combo with falcon assist sounds fun
Wii Fit’s assist should be a hip bash from the mushroom addition mini game (I forget the name), featuring the same motion and sound effect that acts like a bumper. More nostalgic to Wii Fit in general and a lot funnier in the action. Byleth should also rewind time.
I have another proposal for Pyra and Mythra, with each having Rex appearing and calling out a specific pair of party members. Rex _can_ be damaged during this, and said damage will be transferred to the Aegis. While not a mechanic, this is a thing in XC2's story, they feel each other's pain since Rex is being kept alive by half of their core crystal. Pyra's version has him call for Nia, who vaults in on Dromarch's back to have him unleash a powerful ether blast with a roar. Pyra and Nia share a close bond due to various story reasons, as well as a unique team-special because of it, the only one of its kind in XC2. For Mythra, he calls out Morag and Brighid, who are using their burning whip-swords to control space around you with a big, multi-hit blade dance. Brighid is the only member of the main party that Mythra knew from back during the days of Torna, and this also just so happens to reflect how Mythra is still plagued by past events, compared to Pyra who generally acts more open and optimistic. It also keeps the theme of duality, since one has the connection to the assist's Driver while for the other it's the Blade, it keeps in line with Mythra referencing _Torna: The Golden Country_ and it gives Rex something to do. And their models already exist thanks to the stage.
alternatives; pokemon trainer: uses a item to the player which will change based on the pokemon bayonetta: put a iron maiden that traps anyone tha get knockback into it, including allies and the user itself mythra/pyra: Rex do a combo that steels the target item
would have loved if the chumbrella would have been an upwards rising platform kirby spawns below the player, that is really strong, but i like the unique option and helping a friend like that would be very fun
This kinda makes me wanna see the Smash roster translated into a more traditional fighting game style Not that I'd want Smash to be any other way, it would just be an interesting side project
For Sora I think Ragnarok fits a little better given it's probably one his more iconic moves that appears in several games. It could work by having Sora rush in and combo your opponent allowing you to get some hits in as well then finish by launching several projectiles that can damage them and props them up for you to follow up afterwards. The projectiles can be blocked by walls and platforms.
I have some other ideas for inkling and incineroar. For inkling, because all of their moves and design pull from splatoon 1, their assist move should be splatoon 1 related. Now this might be overpowered, but i say that they should throw a disruptor sub weapon which upon landing or hitting a surface, creates a cloud of ink that, if the opponent is in, will reduce ground and air movement speed and jump height. maybe also if the opponent is an inkling, it increases their ink consumption and decreases ink recovery rate like it also does in the game. Idk 30% ground movement speed reduction, 20% air movement speed reduction, and 25% jump height reduction? Oh and slower acceleration as well. numbers can be adjusted if its too strong For incineroar you gotta pull from the moves he uses from the doubles format of the official competitive format of VGC. Bro is the #1 most used Pokemon because of his massive support utility. first thing, when summoned, his intimidate ability kicks in which will reduce the damage% of the opponents normals by 20% for the duration he is on the field. Then he goes for the move fake out which if lands stuns the target for a long enough for him to follow up with u-turn in which ends his assist
Thanks for watching the final MockRock video of 2024 everyone! This was a fun one to end on, I always love an excuse to go digging through everyone's canon appearances, hope you enjoyed and see you in 2025!

I just called it Adrenaline Rush to differentiate the characters from the cars, but no big objections here tbh, I could see it
@@MrMockRockF-Zero machines are not cars. They are F-Zero machines.
Alternate take for Sonic is taking a move from the game all about teamwork, whipping up a cyclone like in Sonic Heroes.
IT’S CALLED BLUE TORNADO!
@@GlitchanBlackthought it was called Sonic wind.
@ReikuYin that was from sonic adventure 2 in multiplayer
Orrr that one obscure rpg sonics game attacks?
@@lightlecreator thankfully, chronicles doesn't exist🙏🙏
I think the split character is enough of a hook as is
@@MrMockRock the simpler idea is just make Rex a consistent assist across Aegis. Use the same attack for both characters with no changes.
If the player's chosen assist appeared in victory animations, this could be done by giving specific pairs special victory animations.
16:01 Mewtwo being named Abadango is so cool
Also I love this video concept.
We love roman canceling
Roman Cancel is the best mechanic because it tells the devs exactly what to balance their supers around.
Funnily enough, Sonic actually does a vertical loop in one of his attacks in Frontiers.
That just sounds like incentive to camp more. even if he has the slowest recharge in the game.
He's not just a healer, he's a full support character. He could have a debuff like hypnosis or paralysis, or a buff like shield.
"nobody likes stall and falls"
F-fine, I get it, I'm nobody!
As one of approximately two Toon Link / Ridley mains, I am proud to be nobody 🗣🔥
I don't like to double comment, but I finished the video, and I have a different idea for Incineroar's Assist (For the record, I quite like the one you made)
A very common doubles strategy in Pokemon with Incineroar is to use Parting Shot to switch out.
WolfeVGC is running to your location
I love the Dedede idea, gives me an excuse to go “I’ll get you this time, BEAM ATTACK!” during a match :]
This was the video that I found out the miniplayer is on the web version of TH-cam. Thanks MockRock!
16:57 chroms assist should involve summoning robin just so it can mirror robins final smash summoning chrom
I wonder if this concept would be well suited for a game that blurs the line a bit between platform fighter and traditional fighting game…
Edit: Some notes now that I’ve finished the video:
- Daisy I personally think should stick to more sports game stuff then go into Mario Party, the Dice Block grab seems more like a Waluigi move than Daisy.
Nick All Star Brawl did this with the angry beavers making direct references to MvC it was really well done and can't definitely work
I had a bit of an idea for a work for Sonic - in Frontiers, Cyloop isn’t really primarily an offensive tool.
This is just practically a mini final smash with more flavour for each character.
For the Mii fighters, think pulling from Miitopia would be the best call especially since 2/3 fighters have classes that could directly translate to them
Swordfighter, I'd Give them Jump Slash, where Mii Swordfighter jumps high above the stage, lingers above for a brief period (think the timing and airtime of kazuya's heavens door/rage drive), and slashes down, having good damage and kill power, excelling in combo ending and some reversal potential, but requiring planning and setup time to take advantage of it.
As for brawler, despite not having a miitopia class to pull from, I'd still pull from it for the assist in the form of a passive from the stubborn personality trait, simply called stubbornness, where mii brawler spawns behind you and strikes an angry pose, and if you threw out an attack that wasn't A) a traditional projectile Or B) a chargeable attack that isn't a smash attack, you would cut off the endlag of your first attack, and do the same attack again with less start-up, but slightly less knockback, and half the damage of the base attack, sort of a fusion between Byleth's assist, and Guilty Gear's roman cancel system, leading to strong combo extensions and enders, as well as a boon to recovery if cancelled out of specials.
i love your video ideas mockrock
skeleton dragons for smash
I do like the idea of making Ganondorf's assist a big slow powerful move. That'd be a good way to keep that overwhelming power theme, even if you rework his moveset. After all, if it's an assist you could juggle someone into as it's not your character who to be stuck in place for over a second.
This is a really neat concept. I've thought about what if every character had an air smash attack like in Slap City. For that to work, I would make smash attacks their own button, and some examples I thought of include Megaman shooting a charge shot in midair, Robin being able to freely switch between broad and Levin sword attacks in midair, Gannondorf throwing a lighting ball at a downwards angle, Samus swinging her arm cannon forwards like her melee counter in Dread, and Dark Samus sprouting Phazon tentacles all over their body.
let me just say that the absolute IMPACT of Dark Pit side B in the new intro is so satisfying every video
Imagine using Roy's assist on the top platform of Brinstar when the acid consumes the rest of the stage. You literally have nowhere to stand.
Jsyk, rally spectrum comes from Robin’s half of chrom and Robin in engage, not chrom.
He could do aether. Not the animation that is Ike and chrom’s up special, and not his final smash, but a move that actually has the aether effect from fire emblem
In FE, aether is a skill that, when it activates, deals 2 hits, 1 having the Luna effect and the other having a sol effect
Luna and sol are 2 different fire emblem skills, Luna dealing damage as if the enemy’s defense either was half or was 0, and sol healing the user equivalent to either half or all damage dealt (specifics of both depends on the game)
This could be a 2 hit move, the first hit breaking shields and the second hit healing for half damage dealt, or full damage if the character being attacked is shield broken. These 2 attacks would have a delay and the 1st hit would have high knock back, so you could only get both effects at once if you land a shield break
Robin can get rally spectrum, it fits the tactician concept better
@@MrMockRockThis video surely took a lot of work if you had to scramble THAT hard to give everyone an assist for Smash
Obviously, this idea works better for a smaller roster. Not only would overlap be less common and animations be less of an issue, but balancing all of it would be easier (synergies with 89 fighters is a lot).
@@MrMockRockone thing with rally spectrum is that it is a skill from fire emblem awakening chrom and robins home games
And in that game you can only get access to skills through classes and while robin has can reclass into basically any class of the game he (and his kid Morgan) have a unique class of grandmaster, which makes him (and his kid) the only ones to get rally spectrum
In Fire Emblem Fates, where Robin is a dlc unit, their unique class is again Grand master with their capstone skill (highest level skill in the highest class) again being rally spectrum
The engage ring also is very explicitly for chrom and robin as half its skills (including rally spectrum) come from robin and the other half from chrom
For things More unique to chrom, you mentioned why aether wouldn't be a good fit there are other options
There are three possible skills
1. Dual Strike+ making it more likely to perform a dual strike, although I wouldn't know how apart from the name and a generic attack he would perform assist
Edit: I just thought of a way to include this mechanic by activating a time during which chrom would appear behind you for either every attack you perform or every hit you connect and add some extra damage.
This would be faithful to both how it works in Awakening and Engages Chrom and Robin Ring. But maybe you have a better idea
2. Charm boosts the hit and avoid stat of units in a 3 tile range of Chrom. You could maybe translate the hit and avoid part into either movement- and/or airspeed or just maybe endlag reduction, which sounds crazy but at least faithful.
He could apply the effect either completely passively or you could place him on the battlefield where he would grant an aura in which the effect would be active
This effect also is especially in fan projects effectively synonymous with the lord class which chrom is a prototypical example of
3. Rightful King boosts the activation rate of % proc skills like Astra, Sol, Luna or Aether by 10%
You could translate the effect into smash by giving special moves a dmg boost or some other cool effect for a duration and to up the chances of moves like Luigi Misfire and G&W 9.
This skill is his capstone skill like rally spectrum is for robin and also is used for his S Rank Bond Ring (essentially weaker Engage Rings) from Engage
I would also like to propose a more gameplay faithful adaptation of Aether in which after activation the next 2 moves of the front character would get empowered, with the first healing for half (that's how it is in Fe you could change it for balance) of the percent dealt and the next one dealing 50% more damage.
You could also name this assist Aether+Rightful King to differentiate it from other versions of Aether
Sorry for the very long read but thank you for the incredible video^^
The most unbelievable part of this video is Kirby getting a move that doesn't come from Superstar
I would say merry Christmas, but that would mean all 3 of your stocks are getting combo’d at once
In all seriousness, this is a great idea for a video
One change for the Assist will be for Ness, since PK Rockin (Ness' Signature PSI Ability.) Isn't used in Smash, I think I will include that as an assist by having Ness Sending out a moderate blast of energy full of colors that Reference the PK Rockin Animation in Earthbound.
Oh Mock... you should have chosen to make them K.O. able.
Nothing like a good ol' happy birthday.
Look, I thought about it, but with the way KOing works in Smash, that just sounded waaaaay too cheap lol
@@MrMockRock Happy birthdays are also cheap in Marvel¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@MrMockRockyou don't have the tag game mindset
@VectorMan7956 yeah, calling assists is always the insane risk
8:55 counter point: maybe that could be why some assists could be game changing, that could also add more dept to assists as you could have that be a double edge sword of having a powerful assists on what could be considered "weaker" fighters making players choose to have a strong 3rd fighter or 2 good ones and have the last used JUST for that powerful assists
To be fair, the ice missile was only in 2 games. The ice beam with your probably thinking of was in several. The missile version was only in fusion and red because the events of fusion left her unable to use a standard ice beam.
Honestly, as a massive hero in smash fan, I'm glad you committed to the chaos that makes him so fun
I feel like ryu's assist should be a hashogeki that destroys projectiles
If Inceneroar doesn’t get parting shot I will be highly disappointed after all he’s a support Pokemon in competitive Pokemon
Edit: you didn’t give him that!!? Inceneroar is a physical attacker not a special attacker why use a special attack boosting move!!?
You never know. Maybe so the opponent thinks it's going to do a physical attack, then set up with a physical tank, who would be forced to switch out. Mental games, basically
A couple reasons:
@masterpink6963 I don't think Nintendo or a dev would do that, they're always going to go with something fun
@ what’s not fun about Parting shot?
Cool video, Mock. I appreciate your idea for Daisy, especially pulling from MP, but I'd personally go with her inflecting the opponent with Creep Dice, temporarily slow their movement.
6:57 We know that's you, Etalus.
I feel like this could be a cool mod if it just lets you input one of their special moves with an unused button. Like if Mario is your assit you can use fire ball or cape. Of course stuff like fludd would be difficult to code it would be worth it for things like monado on all characters
I like how Mock Rock just made Zelda the platform fighter version of Shujinko from MK1, seemingly on accident
Ok but how funny would it be if Fox’s assist was just him calling Landmaster like his old final smash?
I like Steve having a Bow since it’s completely missing from his moveset
I love these kinds of videos so much, I really appreciate how willing you are to look across a character’s whole history 🙏
I haven't had a thought of that idea! Assist would be cool to use in the next smash if it happens!
Excellent ideas all around! I like the mix of offense, defense, and mobility/support options.
23:38
You are the only TH-camr I've seen to mention Professor Hector or even Gyromite, when talking about R.O.B.

Naming your Blaziken “Douglas J.” goes hard
Only just now starting the video. Please tell me he gave Pichu the ukulele.
Edit: He did, in fact, not give Pichu the ukulele.
His music was, alas, not electric....
I think hero should also drop in mp with the assist because it can balance it while still being crazy
(Oh, also, whoever told you that nobody likes Stall-Then-Fall Moves clearly haven't been using them enough as I've generally found them to be incredibly satisfying to use! XD Yeah, they leave you vulnerable as hell if they fail to hit, but so do a lot of other Attacks. But, I digress.)
I feel like assists would be a great way to get the pokemon trainer themselves to do something, like using a battle item to boost your stats. If smash did this but didn't want to make extra assists for transformation characters, i'd like to see them do this, and maybe even get Rex out for Pyra and Mythra's assist
also imagine how cool it'd be if as kirby, you could copy your opponent's assist to use abilities you normally wouldn't have access to
For Sonic I believe the advance 3 team move would be great as a mobility.
An alternative idea I had with incineroar that has more to do with his gameplay identity than his wrestler theme
-knock off: incin performs a chop attack with moderate but not great combo potential.
31:06 Roxas, they've hit the second clock tower!
The real reason why the sun sets red.
I didn't watch the whole video yet while writing this comment but since Sakurai added mechanics from the Kirby franchise like dropping though platforms, I think he would do the same with assists and make the assists unharmable
Pre-edit: I'm not exactly sure that would be the case but I just had that to say
Alternative take on Joker: 1 more, he does a strong melee attack that has a high chance of tripping the opponent(s)
Anyone know how to get Zero Suit Samus in that pose from the thumbnail? I don’t recall seeing in the game at all
i don’t mind how joker’s represented here, but it comes across as a bit generic to me - i’d love to see a representation of the persona series’s baton pass mechanic, where he uses a special move to stun the opponent and then leaves them at the mercy of the active character (preferably with a bespoke high five animation on the way out)
seeing the mario party footage within daisy made me think i was watching TCNick and the party crashers for a second
i would want Captain Falcon to actively just come in with a Falcon Punch, i get its not as fun as zooming around at mach 5 with a momentum boost, but actively being allowed to kill of an air combo with falcon assist sounds fun
I would love assist attacks in smash, that would be a sweet addition
Wii Fit’s assist should be a hip bash from the mushroom addition mini game (I forget the name), featuring the same motion and sound effect that acts like a bumper. More nostalgic to Wii Fit in general and a lot funnier in the action.
Byleth should also rewind time.
This is a really interesting concept I really hope this is in the next smash game it would add a lot without being too overwhelming for new players
30:16 would love a video where u think of a little passive like this for every character
Love to see Wolfe in your Video 😅

Terry originates from Fatal Fury, sir. King of Fighters was later.
seeing this in my feed only 5 minutes is kinda ludicrous and ik this is going to be a banger
Appears behind your opponent? Deals additional damage to assists? My brother in Arceus that isn't Nasty Plot that's Sucker Punch
And if he could learn Sucker Punch, that'd be the one 😞
And their models already exist thanks to the stage.
alternatives;
pokemon trainer: uses a item to the player which will change based on the pokemon
bayonetta: put a iron maiden that traps anyone tha get knockback into it, including allies and the user itself
mythra/pyra: Rex do a combo that steels the target item
would have loved if the chumbrella would have been an upwards rising platform kirby spawns below the player, that is really strong, but i like the unique option and helping a friend like that would be very fun
You're really putting out banger after banger like it's nothing
Oooooooh intriguing! New Mock Rock let's goooooo!
This has been my dream for a sequel to ult for soo long this is my dream video
This kinda makes me wanna see the Smash roster translated into a more traditional fighting game style
Not that I'd want Smash to be any other way, it would just be an interesting side project
fraymakers mention yay
For Sora I think Ragnarok fits a little better given it's probably one his more iconic moves that appears in several games. It could work by having Sora rush in and combo your opponent allowing you to get some hits in as well then finish by launching several projectiles that can damage them and props them up for you to follow up afterwards. The projectiles can be blocked by walls and platforms.
17:12 But...rally Spectrum is Robin's thing is in their personal class in awakening and often referenced in heroes through just the two of them
Hot tip, rally spectrum is Robin’s thing technically
Oh and slower acceleration as well. numbers can be adjusted if its too strong
For incineroar you gotta pull from the moves he uses from the doubles format of the official competitive format of VGC.
Would have been sick to see either the parachute or the card swipe for GnW but I like this selection
