Marc Anthony is a true legend bro. I'm a huge fan. I got to see him in Madison Square Garden in 2016 and it was an entire vibe that night!

It’s pretty much African music, the Caribbean sounds much more like Africa than most American music does

It's obvious most slaves ended up in latin america and not in the us. Latin america and the Caribbean got big African influence, pple forget history

Aguanile is a word used in Yoruba songs in honor to Oggun Orisha , God of war and blacksmith in this Cult, Aguan mean clean and ILÉ is house or place for cult of Orishas. Mai mai means Aché , bless and proteccion for everyone . Big influence of africans roots.

There is a version or a beginning part missing to the original song Mar Anthony sang, where a bell is ringing a madrina saying a prayer then the song you hear starts. Looks like it's off U Tube now. Thank you for your videos.

Aguanile is an African word meaning spiritual cleansing. The original singer of this song was Hector Lavoe who had a bad addiction to heroin. The song is basically asking for spiritual cleansing of his addiction. Lavoe unfortunately passed but his legacy in the salsa movement is undeniable.

@@sabrinarosario6499My college student residet dorm housing owner and manager was a santera and she play and pray at her altar every day at noon. She was a very nice warm and brave old lady. Everyone loved her. I say brave because a crazy kid try to come in to beat up one of the kids living there and she came out with a 12" carving knife on the hand and swinging and iron pipe on the other hand. Never came back again. Note, she was also the cook and a retired chef. It's was in the 1980s in PR. Nobody called the cops back then.

That song was the creation of Willie Colon and Hector LaVoe singing; they made it famous but since Marc Anthony´s idol was Hector LaVoe he paid tribute to him with this song.

Aguanile is a tribute to the African heritage and Hector Lavoe had been going through a lot based on the movie above his life (El Cantante: The Singer). He and his father were not talking to each other bc he went to New York and he was from Puerto Rico. And he had already lost one son in New York. Hector met his wife (they called her Poochie bc she looked like a cute dog). They had a son. Hector and Poochie started doing drugs in the 70s when Hector Lavoe was at his peak. In the mid 80s, the salsa sounds was falling off a lot (probably bc of Gloria Estefan and the Sound Machine), and Hector went deeper into drugs, he and Poochie were separated, and their son accidentally shot himself when he was 15. Then, he tried to perform again but the crowd was not very big. He was so depressed, that he tried to commit suicide by jumping out of a hotel window. Instead of hitting the ground, he bounced off the air conditioner and onto the grass. Then, he found out that he had AIDS because of his use of heroin, cocaine, and sleeping with other women while he was on tour. In fact, he had another woman pregnant early in their relationship, but Poochie stayed with Hector throughout all the arguing and fighting and finding him when he was high or drunk. In fact, Hector used to drink whiskey while he performed onstage. Hector Lavoe ended up passing away in 1995 at 45 years old. Marc Anthony played Hector Lavoe and Jennifer Lopez played Poochie. That's why Marc was singing Aguanile.

Caribbean!! There is a big difference. And no, he wasn't the one he sang it. It was Hector Lavoe. It was his original song. The song you are hearing is santeria. Voodoo, my guy. They mixed catholicism with voodoo back in the days. When African ancestors were introduced to catholicism because of Christopher Columbus , there was a lot of suppression of African salves and Taino Indians . Look up Puerto Ricon history. Also, look at bonba and plena. Loiza Puerto Rico. It's the biggest African ancestors we have living there.

He said something about spraying on girls hahaha 😅😅😂😅 oggun "Aguanile is a african god of war 😅😅😅 and the captions are off when it translate its always incorrect words that dont have any meaning and all whacky dont pay mind to it. Ask a person who is fluent in Spanish and english that can better explain it 😅😅😅 you had me rolling bro love channel and for showing the love and takin the time and effort to check on our boricua brother Marc Anthony I know his sister i have to show her this shes gonna love it ❤

That song is of a western african Nigerian saint( deity) called Oggun a path/avatar Aguanile" the god of war. But Marc redid a song of a late great Hector La voz a NuYokRikan salsa legend from back in the 60s and 70s marc made a movie with jlo on his life story. Trust me theres no arabic music or influences in that music its all Afro caribean from PuertoRico so yea its gots its african roots in the percussion instruments and all the other stuff is all influence of jazz Latin
