    These little Cavaille Colls are always such a treat! Having played a couple in Paris years ago, I was struck by how much character each stop had.

    Well balanced in the number of stops but with all the typical sounds of a Cavaillé-Coll. Each stop has its own strong personality and the combinations generate fantastic tones. This delicate Tremolo and the swell pedal are the unmistakable signature of the best french organ builder. Thanks Paul for introducing us to this wonderful instrument! Have a good weekend 😁👍

    I read in a forum that this organ was not inspiring enough. However, it sounds wonderful and full of personality! The disposition of the reeds is a bit strange but it must be a good reason for that. Great interpretation and demonstration Paul! Your videos are informative and enjoyable! Kudos to Piotr too!

    • @PaulFey
      @PaulFey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much!! Yes - I‘m a bit confused about the reeds being only in the Recit. I guess there is no real use for an Hauptwerk Trumpet for example, when you can just switch manuals.

    • @martijnthomas6017
      @martijnthomas6017 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but the stoplist is not weird… it’s exactly how Cavaille Coll made his smaller and bigger organs. There are always two reed 8 foot stops at the swell. They are the tutti and can be enclosed.
      Making a cresendo is totally different then the classic german plenum 8 4 2 mixture.
      This is how it works, from soft to louder, fonds 8 16 4 coupled to the swell (closed) with the red stops. ( they can be activated by a pedal) These are the tutti ones and include the 16 8 4 reeds, mixture and sometimes the 2 doublet. Now you can make the crecendo by opening the swell box and at bigger organs adding the reeds from the pedal en great and at last the mixtures.

    I have noticed that you have two excerpts that you like to play, one for demoing Oboes and one for Trumpets. You used both in this demo. What are the pieces they are taken from?

    • @PaulFey
      @PaulFey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, you are right :)
      The Oboe-piece is the beginning of "Prelude, Fuge et Variation" from Cesar Franck and the Trumpet-piece is the first few bars of "Grand Choeur Dialogue" from E. Gigout

    I see a shaded stop knob in the upper far-right side of the console, is there someone who can tell something about it?

    • @PaulFey
      @PaulFey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s called ‚Tacet‘ and is usual for this kind of organ. It does nothing - it’s just there to keep the symmetry of the console 😀

    • @dimis094
      @dimis094 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PaulFey I wondered if it was a planned stop, or a historical stop, or a new addition by Piotr...
      And there is no entry of it in the Encyclopedia Of Organ Stops webpage ( out of curiosity looked for Vox Ludgeri and also found no entry )

    • @PaulFey
      @PaulFey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dimis094 That's interesting! I'd say that it's there on the 'real' organ - as I said for the 'symmetrical perfection' of the console. Maybe they left it out because it serves no real purpose other than looking good 😀

  • @marks.7593
    @marks.7593 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm sure I'll get blasted for this but.... so what? You are playing an imitation of a real organ. All that fine electronic technology still adds up to an imitation of something else.

    • @PaulFey
      @PaulFey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems that you didnt get blasted ;)
      Yes - you are right! But where is the problem with that? You cant have the real instrument at home or share it with several people at one time. There is noting bad about this imitation or is it?

    • @thebog11
      @thebog11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not going to blast you, it's a legitimate question. But consider the following.
      One, Paul is a student and doesn't have the time or the money to fly around the world and demo various organs (if he could get permission from the church or venue to film).
      Two, this Hauptwerk technology enables someone to play at home with whatever sounds they want to fit the piece they're playing. Not everyone has access to a Sauer if they want to play Karg-Elert, or a Cavaille-Coll if they want to play Vierne!
      Three, these samples are professionally done and, I'd hope, sound very much like the real thing. This enables all of us who would never have the opportunity to visit these organs to enjoy them as well!

    • @kitstr

      @@thebog11 Yes, it's great that we can have a preview of a sample set, and know what we will get if we buy it.
