    Those mushrooms in your shot are Aspen Boletes. Edable with caution. They can make some sick.. I would avoid. Good rule to harvest by...If it turns Black or Blue so can you! AVOID ANY dark color change They won't kill ya but you might be in the outhouse a while ;)
    I just did a Catch, clean cook video on boletes and do mushroom walks most evenings Aug-Sept here at the school to teach people what to look for :)

    I found your Chanel a few days ago and have been binge watching ever since. Love your videos.
    I’m a very keen gardener and grow a lot of different vegetables and fruits. When you harvest rhubarb a suggestion would be to not cut the stalks but to grasp a leaf stem at the very bottom, give it a small twist, and pull it sideways to remove the stalk at its base. This technique leaves no stub behind to rot.
    Take care and I’m looking forward to my continued binge watching of your wonderful videos. Cheers Annie

    That rubarb reminding me of the first time I harvested at my grandparents ranch in Nebraska.... I was 11 and wasn't really into it... then later I had the pie and was game for any more trips to get rubarb! BTW.... the Alone in The Wilderness book by Dick Pronneke is a great diary synopsis of his first couple years of the eventual 35 he spent at twin lakes. To this day, the documentary of the same name is my all time favorite DVD..... and I'm a person that doesn't watch many things more than once.... but that one, probably 20-30 times I'm guessing!

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Joe! Rhubarb is SO easy to grow and tastes amazing! When I was in Colorado, I had two plants that just grew like crazy with very little care. The pie is a great motivator isn't it! 🤣 I know I have some of his DVD's since I used to watch them in Colorado when I was dreaming about Alaska. Once my son gets here with all my stuff, I am going to see what I am missing. His website has a lot of stuff I wasn't aware of like a coffee table photo book! And yeah, I too have probably seen his video many times but not as many as you! LOL! 🤪 Thank you so much Joe! 🧡🤗💚

      LOL! Yes I would hope so! No stray cats all the way out here and if I did see one, I would probably take it in. I do have Lynx around though. It is possible whatever it was, was just walking by the front door on its way to eat the bird and maybe I scared it somehow when opening the door or ?? Thank you so much!

    Good news rose hips are not toxic. Apple seeds you would need to eat appropriately 40 apples in one sitting and crush the apple seeds when eating the 40 apples. I hope this helps relieve some anxiety about consuming your wild edibles. I personally take elderberry each day to keep my immunity up to prevent sickness.

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska

      @Alone, As you already know I am an avid follower, as I know you are also, of your fellow countrymen Eric & Arielle Illia . So I would definitely point you in their direction for such things as the mushrooms. Not only are they knowledgeable in so many of the edible local fungi, they are also accessible if necessary , to meet up with and discuss the pros and cons of what's growing locally in your area. I'd not be going by anyone on here just taking a stab at what mushroom is what. That said, I know you'll continue to be super cautious about what advice you consume ( enjoy the pun please) LOL LOL Another delightful video, my friend, stirring once again beautiful childhood memories for me with rhubarb, and rose hip, and elderberries to name a few. Mother made gooseberry jam, blackcurrant jam, strawberry jam, and raspberry jam, but she made a beautifully delicate red currant jelly. The thousands of blackberries also gave us jam but mostly pie or blackberry & apple pie or crumble. I am seriously salivating now !!!! We have Portobello mushrooms in both Australia & NZ butt I'd not presume to advise what they looked like in your neck of the woods in Alaska. Collecting paddock mushrooms as a child was always part of our farming life . So delighted in your Postal gifts. So many helpful blessings to brighten your days. Much love ,with big hugs, thoughts and prayers always, my friend, from this Aussie /Kiwi born & raised Nan 🤗💞✝️🙏✌️😃👏👏 ps. Thanks for the laughs at the out-takes 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I do love all of the advise I get in the comments and I always "double check" before doing anything. The mushrooms can wait as far as I am concerned. I do want to learn it though! Portobello and Button mushrooms I get from the store are just fine and I don't eat mushrooms that much anyway. Once I get my garden set up, I will have a berry patch that will have all the berries I could possibly need. Pies and jams are definitely going to happen! The gifts everyone sends are just so thoughtful. It's like Christmas every Saturday! So glad you are enjoying the out takes! They happen all the time! Sometime too much! Thank you so much Heather!

He would have buried it as he doesn't eat meat but he does like apples and peaches but they got to be high up in the tree at least 10 feet. Put in reflective stickers on the Windows now don't do that you'll mess up your view. Photos twirly thing hanging from the ease on front of the windows to scare the birds. And watching you go through all that in making your tea I'll just take the bag stuff and boil some water and dunk it a few times. Too much work for me. Then again as always love the views that you show. Love You, my Friend. Be Good be Safe and Stay, locked and loaded. LOVES.💕🌹💕🌹💕

They usually mix those two together. I could go hunting and fishing but I would have to pay the "out of state" license since I have not hit my full year yet! I think I need another month. But hey! I did go scene hunting for you! Thank you so much Charles!

    Whatever animal brought you back the dead bird, it is still strange. Often birds will come back to life after hitting a window by keeping them under a cardboard box for a few minutes. I have seen a bird come back to life after hitting a window. I thought other birds were going to kill it because as it was trying to come out of its comma or whatever state that it was in, it was all dazed and confused and several birds started attacking it. I scared them off and gave the dazed one time to get its bearings about it and it lived to fly away. I was amazed because I really thought it was dead.

    I love how you can make fun of your mistakes. You’re being smart not to eat mushrooms you’re not sure about. Love how you made your own rose hip juice. That’s good stuff. Hope the yellow lines help with the birds. I live in a suburb in Ohio and every week birds fly into my window. BTW cats are notorious for leaving dead animals as gifts at your doorstep. The cats in our neighborhood have left me a dead mouse. My mom’s cat often left her dead moles, mice, baby bunnies. I wonder if you have a wild cat of some sort who left the dead bird at your door.

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! and those are just the ones I will show you! I make mistakes filming ALL THE TIME! Figured I might as well add them to the videos! My TH-cam analytics show that more than half of my viewers click off before the out takes anyway! Mushrooms are out until I figure this out more. Gnomestead did a fantastic video (top comment) about identifying mushrooms! Love his channel! As for the bird, it is possible that a lynx, fox, raven or ermine grabbed it and just ran towards the house and maybe I scared it opening the door. Either way I was a bit confused. Any cat (other than a lynx) out here would not last long. Just too many animals here that would eat it. Kind of why I wont get a cat! Thank you so much Melody!

    To remove gooey residue (and that includes jar labels and price stickers), squirt some lighter fluid onto a rag or paper towel. It dries quickly leaving nothing behind. You can also simply wash the surface afterward. This can be used to remove residue from glass, plastic, wood or or metal, because lighter fluid won't damage the surface. On raw wood, it will penetrate the surface in the same manner of any other liquid.
    Jeez - the bird was back. That was sort of Pet Cemetery.
