@@verygenerichandsomeman9370 It is done with now. Stay positive and work hard for the theory paper. Your grade is based on all 3 papers so stay focused. Remember the IGCSE's are just a stepping stone. They are not the judge of your future. Work hard and do your best and you will be fine. Small bumps in the road will not determine your destination, only you can do that.
I'm happy that the paper was tough, but I did well so the thresholds should be slightly lower. A question I have: I forgot to name some cells(it was discreetly mentioned in the format your excel to look like the one in the paper) but nowhere was evidence for it asked, and it obviously isn't shown in the prints, so how will they even check that? Maybe in the excel formulas that use that range?
If they asked you to create a named range, then that range would have been for the table for the lookup function so they will see it in the formula. This will only be a 1 mark so i would not worry about it. Sounds like you did a good job. Well Done!
Sir, I also have one more question. I took 2 screenshots to display the web page in the browser. Will I be losing marks for that, it didn't mention that the web page needs to come in 1 page.@@paphitisn

@@mathskafunda4383 If it did not say that it should display the whole webpage then you will not lose a mark. If it said to take a screen shot from the browser displaying the whole page then you will. SO you should be fine.

Thank you very much for all the help sir The paper went very well, there was mostly css modification and the video had to autoplay when the web page was opened In the excel we mostly needed vlookup, hlookup and basic functions along with the formulas they gave us But overall the paper was quite easy

Yes you are right. well spotted. i corrected this later in the tutorial but did not point it out. Good job. This is why i generally prefer my students delete the css and start it from the beginning.

Hi, great video, thanks for sharing. I have one question though, I looked at the mark scheme for this paper and for questions 11 and 12 it shows dollar signs before each cell number. For example =SUM($C4:$F4). I am just wondering if this makes a difference and if I will lose marks if I don't add this. Thanks.
The dollar sign is used for relative and absolute references. In this case it is not needed so you will not lose marks because the dolar sign indicates that the column letter is not allowed to change. When we copy downwards the column letter does not change anyway so there is no need for the $ sign.
I have a question, does the spec state what software we have to use or does it depend on the exam center (my school). Because in our school we use Microsoft Web Expression 4 which is very old. And all your videos are in Dreamweaver, which is much better and convenient. Cambridge IGCSE™ Information and Communication Technology 0417 This is the spec I do, so could you please help me?
both microsoft web expression 4 and dreamweaver are allowed, it depends on the exam center (in this case, your school), but dont worry since the code is generally the same but there could be a change in the interface i guess.
The exam is not application specific so you can use any software you want for any of the components. Schools have an option of software so the students go with waht the school offers. At the end of the exam the exams officer or the head of department has to fill in a form specifying the software that the students used.

Yes web expression is a bit different but what is important is to be able to understand what the question wants you to do. Once you have that then figuring out how to do it is a lot easier. I think the hardest component of paper 3 is the Spreadsheet as it requires you to first understand what to do and then figure out how to do it. The web design although quite a lot is involved 90% of it is the the same all the time so do 4 -5 papers and you basically have 90% of the paper. In HTM, a table, images / video with sizing, text, meta tags. Then css, learn the basics like table, td, headings, body, font and that is it. That is 80 to 90 percent of the web design.
Luckily this was an easy paper with no lookups or meta tags. Surprisingly, my paper went really smooth while practicing and just took 1 hour 30 minutes to complete
I dont keep the completed files after i have solved them. Why would you need the solved files if they are soled in the tutorial but you can also download the marksheets with solutions.
Hi I have a question. When you are setting the font for the h1,h2 font family why do u put the other fonts in speech marks but not the sans-serif? Doesn't it also have a space ? 29:42
If you watch the paper 3 videos you will see all that yiu eed for css. Doing a video only on css will not help that much as you need to base the exercises on the guven scenarios.
You will need to check with the exam center at which you will be taking the exam. I dont see any reason why not as long as you can carry out all the required skills and produce the correct outpouts without internet connection then it should be ok. However you will need to find an exM center that has that software installed on their computers.
Sir do we have to show both file name and file path together or do we just show file path. because u have shown both, but when u click file path file name is automatically added.
No this is not required. In the question paper the dotted borders are there to indicate NO border. If you do add Borders though you will not lose marks as marks are awarded positively. so as long as you do what you are supposed to do you will get the marks. You would only lose marks if it said specifically No borders.

Yes. The procedure if i remember correctly is: Insert -> Media ->Windows Media Player then click to show all files and find your video file. your video is added. To change the dimension sizes. right click on the video ->active X properties -> click the tab Object Tag set the size you want. In the same window you will also find the alternative text box. This is where you would type the error message in the event that your browser does not support the video type.
wouldn't the width of the logo be written as style="width:100%" instead of width="100%"? as in the qp it says "Use inline style attributes to make sure that logo fits the full width of cell B". I always check the ms for this sort of questions but the ms for oct nov 2023 did not show the sample answers so i could not check. Anyway thanks for the tutorials they were amazing!
the question paper specifically asks you to use video and source tags to add the video, so embed will not be included in the marksheet. Examiners will be looking for the video tag.
XLOOKUP is an option. You can use XLOOKUP to replace Vlookup, Hlookup and lookup. You do not have to use it. You can use the other lookup functions instead. You will not get a question that will require the use of Xlookup. If you see the papers, they ask you to use a lookup function to solve a problem, they don't specify which one. So as long as you know and understand the other 3 lookup functions then you can solve any question. If you prefer to use the Xlookup to replace the other 3 that is also fine. Personally i tell my students to avoid the Xlookup as it is a new function and is not represented in the mark sheets yet.

Greetings .... i wanted to ask ? for question 7 on,[Styles h1 and h2 must be blue with no other colour components.] why do we use 0000FF I DONT GET where it comes sorry..
with hexadecimal colour the first 2 number represent the Red, the next 2 number represent the Green and the last 2 numbers represent the blue. The smallest value of intensity is 00 and the maximum is FF. So, if we want pure red then the code would be FF0000 which means that Red is maximum intensity at FF and Green and Blue are off with minimum intensity, both at 00. so Pure green would be 00FF00 and pure blue would be 0000FF. Remember that the order is always Red Green Blue (RGB)
If you took the exam at school, did your teacher keep a copy of your electronic files? If yes the exams officer can contact the exam board and ask if it is possible for them to attach the copy of your html code.

I am glad the tutorials helped you. For the web design you have to understand that this is not a web developmentbcourse and the level of thebassessment is basic. There a a number of things which are a bit outdated, like the use of tables but it is what the syllabus requires.
Because there are no fixed values that i want to be absolute in the sum function. I want the referencint to be relevant so that as i duplicate down it uses the new cell references for the sum function. An easy way to save time is to merge by selecting the cells and pressing M

I use MS frontpage which is like 16 years old, and you have to remember almost all the code, no fancy options to add the video.

I think the hardest component of paper 3 is the Spreadsheet as it requires you to first understand what to do and then figure out how to do it. The web design although quite a lot is involved 90% of it is the the same all the time so do 4 -5 papers and you basically have 90% of the paper. In HTM, a table, images / video with sizing, text, meta tags. Then css, learn the basics like table, td, headings, body, font and that is it. That is 80 to 90 percent of the web design.

Luckily this was an easy paper with no lookups or meta tags. Surprisingly, my paper went really smooth while practicing and just took 1 hour 30 minutes to complete

Hi I have a question. When you are setting the font for the h1,h2 font family why do u put the other fonts in speech marks but not the sans-serif? Doesn't it also have a space ? 29:42
No it does not. it has a - in between not a space. if it was sans serif then it would need " " but sans-serif is one continuous string of text.

If you watch the paper 3 videos you will see all that yiu eed for css. Doing a video only on css will not help that much as you need to base the exercises on the guven scenarios.
for database section. are we allowed to use my SQL from phpmyadmin instead of MS ACCESS
You will need to check with the exam center at which you will be taking the exam. I dont see any reason why not as long as you can carry out all the required skills and produce the correct outpouts without internet connection then it should be ok. However you will need to find an exM center that has that software installed on their computers.
in editing the css, youre supposed to change the spelling of collapse from "collapsee" to "collapse" (correct me if im wrong)

you are right. i did not notice that. well spotted. You only need the file path as it adds the file name, so no need to add the file name again.
For the borders are they supposed to be dotted ?
No this is not required. In the question paper the dotted borders are there to indicate NO border. If you do add Borders though you will not lose marks as marks are awarded positively. so as long as you do what you are supposed to do you will get the marks. You would only lose marks if it said specifically No borders.

For spreadsheets yes. For web design the interface is different but the code for both css and html os the same.

Yes. The procedure if i remember correctly is:
Insert -> Media ->Windows Media Player
then click to show all files and find your video file.
your video is added. To change the dimension sizes. right click on the video ->active X properties -> click the tab Object Tag
set the size you want. In the same window you will also find the alternative text box. This is where you would type the error message in the event that your browser does not support the video type.

wouldn't the width of the logo be written as style="width:100%" instead of width="100%"?
as in the qp it says "Use inline style attributes to make sure that logo fits the full width of cell B". I always check the ms for this sort of questions but the ms for oct nov 2023 did not show the sample answers so i could not check. Anyway thanks for the tutorials they were amazing!

the question paper specifically asks you to use video and source tags to add the video, so embed will not be included in the marksheet. Examiners will be looking for the video tag.

Can you tell me what do do with xlookup? it is in the syllabus, but the excel 2010 does not support it. what if it comes in the board paper
XLOOKUP is an option. You can use XLOOKUP to replace Vlookup, Hlookup and lookup. You do not have to use it. You can use the other lookup functions instead. You will not get a question that will require the use of Xlookup. If you see the papers, they ask you to use a lookup function to solve a problem, they don't specify which one. So as long as you know and understand the other 3 lookup functions then you can solve any question. If you prefer to use the Xlookup to replace the other 3 that is also fine. Personally i tell my students to avoid the Xlookup as it is a new function and is not represented in the mark sheets yet.

with hexadecimal colour the first 2 number represent the Red, the next 2 number represent the Green and the last 2 numbers represent the blue. The smallest value of intensity is 00 and the maximum is FF. So, if we want pure red then the code would be FF0000 which means that Red is maximum intensity at FF and Green and Blue are off with minimum intensity, both at 00. so Pure green would be 00FF00 and pure blue would be 0000FF. Remember that the order is always Red Green Blue (RGB)

If you took the exam at school, did your teacher keep a copy of your electronic files?
If yes the exams officer can contact the exam board and ask if it is possible for them to attach the copy of your html code.

I am glad the tutorials helped you. For the web design you have to understand that this is not a web developmentbcourse and the level of thebassessment is basic. There a a number of things which are a bit outdated, like the use of tables but it is what the syllabus requires.

In the sum function why is there no absolute referencing added, if your replicating it down?
Because there are no fixed values that i want to be absolute in the sum function. I want the referencint to be relevant so that as i duplicate down it uses the new cell references for the sum function. If you do not get this concept i strongly suggest you watch this tutorial as understanding relative, mixed and absolute references is extremely importatnt in Excel.
