  • Get ready for an unforgettable adventure in today's TH-cam episode from Ladakh as we delve into a thrilling road trip food experience from Leh to Hunder via Khardung La.
Our first stop after starting from Leh was Khardung La, one of the highest motorable roads in the world and a daunting pass that fills travelers' nerves with thrill and joy.
A visit to Khardung La is a must-do in Ladakh. The picturesque panoramas and pure air lure tourists from every corner of the world.
Our cab driver, Sonam Ji, took us to Khardungla restaurant at North Pullu run by the genial lady, Tashi Tangdol. The simple setting was abuzz with hungry travelers. As we waited for our order of chowmein, dal rice, and paratha, we witnessed how hard the lady worked all the time-taking orders, serving them, handling cash, and occasionally cooking. Her grit and conviction were inspiring. While leaving, we managed a brief conversation and learned how challenging life and business are in this part of the country.
The way to our next destination, Hunder Sand Dunes, was so picturesque and awe-inspiring. The silver-coloured sand dunes looked nothing less than a fairy world. Beyond its beauty, the dunes are home to the Bactrian Camels, the major players during the ancient Silk Route, and Pashmina Goats. Tourists can also go on a safari on the Bactrian camel. Although the camel ride was bumpy, we enjoyed the ride.
Next, we joined Chef Jigmet, aka the Ladakhi chef, for a sundowner at a beautiful secluded spot in the dunes. It was a very special encounter as the young chef was previously a monk. Today is a renowned name. He served us kombucha along with a hummus platter and a fruit and cheese platter. This sundowner was an ethereal experience, surrounded by such magnificent nature.
Our discussion transitioned to his journey into the culinary world. It wasn't solely about the cuisine; it was also his serene composure and evident zeal that set him apart.
Following the sundowner, we ventured to the Organic Retreat for dinner, indulging in a delectable dish of chanthuk. Its rich flavors were complemented by the chef's anecdotes, enhancing the dining experience.

Ladakhi chef is very humble and polite. Once a monk always a monk.

Wow, Kardhung La looks very much like Nepal to me. The colourful prayer flags and the menus. The man and woman had (from what I know) Nepali names, is this because it’s close to Tibet?
I recognised all the food straight away, and it’s kind of really nice they write it in English the best they know.
I’ve seen a lot where they write Nepali next to English which helps tourists 👍
This just goes to show how amazing Asia is and what is there. Can’t wait to see the next video, I went in a few Buddhist monastery’s in Nepal and they were lovely places and it felt so calm being there.
    Ma Asia maya garchu 👍🥰🇳🇵🇬🇧🇮🇳
You guys should do a food tour of Nepal, give me 2 years to save up and I’ll come when you do and meet 👍

Tourists not following local etiquette make a nuisance of themselves and really turn locals against them.
