I never expected such a heart felt reply Mohammed, reciprocated thanks, I smiled, when you suggested 'they' won't let you wonder around Wembley like you did at the Shay, I'm sure 'they' won't, although I have to say, I took the chance v Grimsby, & wandered around the concourse at half time, & quite cheekily went into areas I know full well I was not supposed to be in, (Like what seemed corporate events) & was never stopped or challenged once ? yes, i was very surprised myself. that said, I sure as well as myself, many of those who responded to your original 'shay' video, would appreciate & enjoy a compilation of the days events from your perspective, as the day unfolds, Your journey, the build up outside, interactions with others, & the Victory celebrations at the end, or as you might say, "Inshallah", or my version 'God Willing'. 👍😇 You jogged my memory there Mohammed ! The Sheff-Utd game in the 4th division, They brought so many supporters, I watched the game crammed in the 'bus-end', I distinctly remember, One of their players , (Top scorer Edwards I think) who'd just scored & ran towards us over the speedway track, in a very - lets say - derogatory arrogant manner, but retreated somewhat, when some Halifax supporters applauded the goal or mostly stood respectively quiet without a vindictive response, He backed-off quite sheepishly . And you no doubt remember a situation v Aston Villa ! us the locals banished (lol) into what was always considered the away end. So so many visiting fans, such was their enthusiasm after scoring a goal, They brought down a waist high block-wall at the lower end of the Skircoat side, undercover terraced section, I don't think it was vandalism as such, just over excitement & too many people in a particular area. All of course, before the O'Rourke years, when he became the chairman, It seems 'tame' on reflection, but at least he did try to improve the dilapidated structure of the time. These newer improvements, I'm glad I too had a wander around in 2016, I was so impressed, & never thought the 'SHAY' would be to that standard in my lifetime. But they'd all been carried out in the decades since I left Elland to live abroad. Most of all, You enjoy the final, & I'll keep a look out, just in case you do actually put something out on the day ! nige. 👍 and I hope I have this right - "As salaam alaiakum"
Just seen this Mohammed. Terrific presentation, Well done. Halifax was my 1st visit to a 'pro' league game, I think I'd been before, but the 1st game that I remember most was v Bishop Auckland in a FA Cup tie, The Bishop fans paraded their banners around the Speedway track before the kick-off ! 'Banter' was exchanged, but all quite jovial by todays attitudes. I expect you'll remember quite well those speedway years too. Terrific years at the Shay, but it was a negative having to watch the football from across the track, like your self, (I was very young back then) I too used to like to stand on the open terrace behind the goals at the north end of the ground. (to watch both sports) Do you remember the bus drivers & conductors of the time, who used to watch the games over the wall of the bus garage, at the top of the steep embankment at the south end. Comical thinking about it now. The 'biggest' game I remember, v Stoke City with Gordan Banks in goals for another cup tie, I expect the present, younger fans of today, can't appreciate how good that Halifax side was at the time, narrowly missing out on promotion into what we now call the Championship, missing out on goal difference if I remember rightly ! I was in secondary school for that game, and we watched the game, Me & numerous school mates, all stood on the speedway track, with the field only cordoned off by ropes ! (it was all good, no bother at all). It was a huge game at the time played under floodlights. My last game . I flew back to watch them play Grimsby in the Trophy final at Wembley, And had a good long chat with the secretary of the time, He invited me into his office in the far corner, When I turned up at the club, to see if I could buy a ticket for the final ! All I can add now in conclusion, Good luck to one & all in May v Gateshead, Sensational win last night v Wrexham, & I live in the hope, THE SHAYMEN can eventually get back into football league status before my time is up . Good on ya Mohammed, Any chance of a Video/report re- the Wembley visit ? 👍🙂 nige.
Many many thanks 🇬🇧 Nigel Fond memories. I was there for a number of other big games- Man City, Sheffield United, Spurs- I spoke to Ray Clemence and got his autograph 😀. We went to Wembley with my grandson, thinking it was a once in a lifetime but hopefully we can win 🏆 👍 again 👍. I don't think I will be allowed into Wembley like I was at the Shay. I think there were more people than the drivers and conductors 😆, I expect it was a good view. 👍 Not a speedway fan, never went. Anyway thank you for your nice comments 😊 Stay blessed 👌 👍 🇬🇧
