The focus works now but at about 5:18 you go through an extra bump on the garter side. Sorry. Just trying to keep someone from getting confused. This is a valuable lesson in mattress stitching! Thanks for the video!
Thank you. I added a note in the description about the oops. Sometimes, knitting while veiwiing through my camera, I don't get good depth perception, just 2D. I appreciate your editing. So helpful! Thank you and happy knitting.
Finally I found the right video. It helps a lot. But my sleeves are stockinette and the body is garter. So I need to see how these two pieces seam together perpendicularly.
Hi CD, I'm glad that I could help. I do have lots of other videos on seaming that may offer further assistance; If you search "seaming", it will pull up several videos on the topic. Good luck and thanks for watching! 😊
I've just taken knitting up again. I know the basics but struggle with seaming neatly. Especially knits to purls. Your videos are informative, easy to follow and with great demonstrations. Thankyou!
You are so welcome, Laura! I also have a Facebook page (same name) filled with knitters at every level, and we love to help new (and returning) knitters; you should join us. 😊
Love this! I combine both hand and machine knitting. This video is great to connect the body of my knitted jacket (stockinet) to the garter stitch rim that holds the zipper! Great tutorial. Thanks ❤❤❤
Thank you Suzanne; I have found your videos to be extremely helpful and clear. I'm looking for one on how to seam two panels of garter stitch along the side edges, which I don't see in your offerings. I have watched many other videos but they don't seem to result in a truly good-looking (invisible) seam. Could you please add this to your queue? Thanks!!
I found this video while looking for information about connecting two stockinette panels by knitting a strip of garter stitch, joining the first and last stitches of the strip with the edge stitches of the stockinette panels. I do this often when making afghans, because it's more convenient to knit narrower panels, and this eliminates seaming. But it's always been garter stitch panels that I've joined this way. This time I'm using a self-patterning yarn that looks much better in stockinette. Garter stitch is shorter than stockinette, and what I want to know is how many rows of garter are equal in length to how many rows of stockinette. I seem to remember reading somewhere that two rows stockinette are roughly as long as three rows of garter. Do you agree that's about the right comparison? I beg your pardon for asking an off-topic question, but the alternative is to reread every knitting book I've ever read, trying to track down the fact I remember, and that would be a huge undertaking. Thank you for your consideration.
As Emily Latella used to say, "Never mind!" Somehow the first time I watched this I missed the first few minutes, in which you establish the row gauges. I see that it's two garter RIDGES (which is four rows) to three rows stockinette. Thank you!
Great question. I am adding this topic to my video todo list. But i the mean time, you would use the smiles on piece of fabric and the frowns from the other to connect across the seam. Happy knitting.
I love how you explain and demonstrate so easy to understand a big thank you
You are so welcome!

Kathleen, you are so welcome! I'm happy to hear that my video was helpful and I appreciate your kind feedback. PS: Emily Latella was awesome!
Would that be the same for a sleeve
Exactly. But, I would start at the shoulder seam and go down one side, then go back to shoulder seam and go down other side.
How would you handle adding new yarn? I am adding a button band to a cardigan.
Where would you be adding the new yarn?

Thank you! Happy knitting.
I would like to know how to seam 2 pieces of perpendicular garter stitch i.e. same as above, but both are garter stitch
