I was born in South Africa but I moved to England when I was 2 years old. I still learnt how to speak the language due to my parents speaking to me in Afrikaans. But I never learnt how to read and write in Afrikaans. Growing up in England, I am now 14 and I feel more comfortable speaking in English. When I go to South Africa my Afrikaans skills suddenly improve and I comfortably speak with my grandparents and cousins. In the past few months I have noticed that I barely speak Afrikaans with my family anymore, I also feel really bad when I can't text my grandparents because I can't write in Afrikaans. Hoping these videos will help me maintain my Afrikaans as I don't want to lose the language of my birth place.

You don't have to study the language as we understand each other. I traveled through the Netherlands and understand your language very well. It felt like home (Cape Town)
Hello! It depends on the sentence. The sentence "my pen is in my hand" is spelt and written exactly the same as English as it is in Afrikaans (just pronunciation that is different). But generally, it's very similar to English.

Yes! Flemish and Afrikaans are very similar. In fact, mutually intelligible. My parents lived in Belgium and they just got around with Afrikaans.
