I laughed. Now can since my kids are grown and out of the house but I remember those days. It's been my experience with all three of my kids that between the ages of 12 & 23 their mom and I were the most uncool dumb people that ever lived but then they realized around the age of 22-24 that mom and dad are smart and know things. It's a completely different relationship now and I love it.
I had to laugh as well....At 21 and in college out of state, Mine only remembers to call and say hello... and I need an extra 100 bucks....Oh Joy!! and nice work there!
I have no idea but if I was him I would label the wood with like the video date or something so it was easy today find looking through the archives of footage he has
@@RyanDraper I would say no. It surely has the vibe and look (black background and colorful overlay) but I think dimension lines are not terminated with arrows but with a cross mark. I would say Frank made this drawing in Illustrator or equivalent. But I might be very wrong.
@@bensthingsthoughts Thanks for the reply. I'm still exploring the best way to get away from graph paper for my segmented projects but not sure I want to jump in the middle of those two PC programs that are frustratingly proprietary lol. Have a good one and thanks again.
@@RyanDraper Take a look at Inkscape ! Setup in Inches or millimeters with the grid on it is pretty quick to draw simple plans. The software is open source and cross plateform. I use it for everything nowadays, it seems ugly and bad at start but I have grown to love it !
I just loved your commenting, it makes everything more clear than visual information only with usually awful music in the background. You are the first page I subscribed to! Thank you for your work.
Frank, Absolute Master Craftsmanship! As you know, I’ve been enjoying your videos from the beginning. I’ll Bet you didn’t think you would have gotten to this point where you imagine, design and build things such as this? I know that is what the shop was for, but the level of craftsmanship you have achieved is superb! Merry Christmas to your whole family!
A work of art! What I appreciate most is how careful you are when you work, and how precise whatever you do is. Nothing is hurried. Everything is intelligently thought through, in advance. A pleasure to watch.
How good is to hear your voice when explaining your woodworks..even if im italian i can cleary understand everything you say..thank you for sharing your skills..as always you are awesome man! Keep going 👍👍💪
Sir, that has got to be the best Christmas ornament to display on your sideboard at this special time of year. Hope you don't mind me saying but what would be really amazing would be to make them a quarter - half of the size and hang them on red ribbon in a bunch of three or more and hang them somewhere special in your home. With your ability and talent, you should definitely go for it. Admiration from the UK
Your extreme close-up shots are brilliant! I have never turned a sphere, but I will one day, and I will heed your advice to cut half of the difference.
Frank, if you do this again, throw a few handfuls of shavings into the bell with the ball before you glue that up, then the ball will be bounding around in a next of shavings, and when you make the slots at the end you can blow out the shavings
The wood looked great, the result was amazing, and as always the photography and production top notch. I loved the extreme closeups of on the lathe and CNC work, and the sound of the bell.
the piece looks great. when i get warm weather i'll try to make a couple to put on shelf with hand carved leaves and some acorns I turned already.T give it that holiday look. The problem you said about jingling while holding it . so what .I have family that like to pick up and look close at my pieces. Just the thought of a ball inside is what make it a jingle bell.
This is amazing. I know you're enjoying the bell's sphericalness but you could add a really small wooden drawer pull to the top to mimic the little bump out on a metal jingle bell
I always smile when he chuckle's too!! I freaking adore him. My oldest daughter has a stutter, and my love for wood working brought us to Frank. He's just awesome and inspiring!
It's truly lovely Frank. I've been watching you since 2012 (back when I was 19)... Apart from watching myself grow, I've seen Claire and Calvin grow too. Love the sassy (and somewhat apathetic) look on Calvin's face in the end
you could try using headless nails as registration marks so that you can turn the outside, take it apart and turn the inside (maybe once for each axis), and then put it together matching the pins and holes. I bet you could make it a lot thinner that way but still be safe and maybe you could get some decent cowbell sounds from it lol
Awesome as usual. Just a thought. You can find large jingle bells made from metal about the size of your inner ball. If you had put that inside it would have an echo chamber effect to make it even louder.
It's not really the holiday season until Frank posts his annual ornament video. I look forward to this every year. Happy holidays to you and your family Frank!
Very cool!!! I'm impressed at how well you made a sphere and managed to clamp it in a CNC! Good thinking! Also, the mental picture of that ball rolling for hours on end is pretty funny!
Awsome!! You can get mini sanding drums for those dremal tools, which would be better then the ber tool you were using. If you search for dremal sets you would be surprised by what you can actually buy for them and there used to be an advert that basically said you can pritty much do anything with one except hammering. Since then people have increased the range of attachments to the point that even the hammer might be possible! LOL Merry Christmas to you and your family 😊
Hi Franc, if you put two funnels with the wide sides to each other and glue sanding paper to the inside, all you have to do is put the ball between the funnels and let one of them turn. The ball will automatically get turned into a pure sphere. (Old optics trick)
Beautiful, creative and clever work, as usual! And boy do I know that 'this next step can screw up all the work I've done so far' pressure. I suppose a drill press and a back saw could cut the slots if one doesn't own a CNC. Hello from Bend!
You can tell the kids are just delighted to record the last bit of the video. Adolescence is pure excitement.
Well, I know I've been there.
"Merry Christmas", take 36!

Go through hard drives pretty quickly but it pays off every now an then 👍

At 2:29 Frank says: “I did a quick drawing”, and proceeds to overlay a NASA worthy diagram. You are awesome Frank, we love you!
From an architect point of view, that is surely a very simple drawing, I guess...

Merry Christmas to you all!
I just realized he named his children after the C&C machine
It's very satisfying to see the piece start to shine when you are sanding it in the lathe.
The best part of December is Frank's ornament video! And the kids are getting so big! They probably hear that all the time now lol
Anyone else find this extremely therapeutic? Thanks Frank. Rock on man.
The enthusiasm from your kids is PALPABLE!!!! He he he!
Nice project!
7:57 that moment when you realize frank didn't put any finish on the ball inside... and never will 😊

I love how you have footage from 3 years ago of you harvesting the wood for your current project. That's dedication.
