  • In this video I discuss my personal journey in the music industry while dropping names like Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, Mariah and others. But the real truth is that we are usually NOT the first choice, but what we make of that opportunity can change everything.

It’s a lesson to ego. That’d be a key word here. Ego.

Any chance on getting these in podcast form as well? Maybe "Not a hiphop podcast with Tony Black"? 😄No need for reformatting content, it would just be easier to put it on in the car or while walking without the fear of accidentally skipping to the next video or butt-dialing someone.

Amazing story! Would love to hear some more insight on the ‘studio rules’ and all- I feel like a lot of this job is just being creative but not being off-putting

Hey Tony, this production coordinator for MJ that you met who was named Brad, was that Brad Buxer, by chance? If so, before that he was the keyboardist in a phenomenal new wave band in the early 80s in Tempe, Arizona called The Jetzons. Check them out. So talented, such good songwriting, and such a unique sound at the time. Danceable but intelligent music. I was obsessed with them as a teenager. I still can't believe they never got a proper record deal. Enjoying the content here. Cheers.

Brad Buxer was music director and keys for MJ...thats a hint. The other (Brad S) was the production coordinator and formerly and engineer.

I had no idea why the industry exploded like it did on 54th street between Sony and the Hit Factory.
Rich artists don’t do earthquakes… of course.
Great story. Greater lesson for today’s young producers.

@@TonyBlackNYC ok, gotchya…..the one I’m talking about may have been earlier than that even….maybe 90,91 even…..some of the best years ever though….85-2000 for me were the best years. Somehow feel like music is a big part of that reason.
