Black Americans are finding out today what I knew 50 years ago. My first encounter was in London where many of the so-called leaders today were educated. They had then a bad attitude toward us blacks from the Caribbean. We found out they were aloof, and had a misplaced sense of superiority.
Listen to their famous performer Burna Boy. Most of them don't know the definition of culture. Our ancestors were forced to give up their African cultures, but future generations were able to evolve into a unique cultural reality. Of course even more so for Black Americans who had most of the African foundation ripped away.
History is repeating itself. I never wanted to believe that the ancient chiefs who were complicit in the enslavement were so culturally depraved when presented with fake guns and trinkets. Today the presenters of those trinkets are masquerading as investors.
    The chiefs are biting.

I have lived in America for decades and now split my time between Africa and America. When new immigrants settle in some black communities in the U.S. and start surpassing the indigenes, often the same feelings of envy crops up resulting unnecessary insults and property damage. I have been asked to "go back to Africa" at times. You go where you see and feel hope. There are shortcomings in every system but the weak Land tenure system in Ghana, coupled with the moral decay and official corruption creates a huge impediment for all. Hope they win this case and are compensated. We need influx of new ideas and challenges. My heart is with them. God Bless

But Liberia is under construction so everyone tends to go towards where they’re being hyped.
African Americans built Liberia. Liberia is disrespected by small countries like Ghana or Nigeria who gained independence fifty years ago. South Africa is one country that gives Liberia her flowers because she inspires the revolutionary movements in Africa. Guess who was doing tht? African Americans. When the slaves were shipped back to Africa with just buckets on their back, Liberia said come home. Ghana didn’t accept your, neither did Nigeria but four hundred years later, they say come? Us as black Americans have to lose this romanticism that just because we share the same skin color, that it means we will be accepted all over Africa. We first need to understand geopolitics. Africa is made up of so so many languages, completely different cultures and ethnicities. Majority of us black Americans don't even know their linage or where they come from, tribe, peoples, the region, languages spoken, etc. etc. All we know is just....Africa. I want to move to Africa. When you go to Africa, or any country outside the U.S. you are always an American first. Skin color doesn't matter. Africa is a completely different world than what blacks are used to. And one of our problems here is we're emotional, and make emotional decisions, and we love hype. And we fall for hype over putting on our thinking caps and thinking about things thoroughly. Most of us have some African heritage in us, but as blacks here in America, we are a combustible mix of African, European and native American. The point I'm trying to convey is, before making a move like that, research thoroughly where you're going, the culture, the lay of the land, law, language, crime and your place in it, and please understand that YOUR blackness has nothing to do with THEIRS. American first, just another human being second, black third

This is true. I don’t blame us for wanting to come back and the rose colored glasses, but the African continent is different from what we are used to in the US - we might have more in common with South Africans. We are not monolithic but we are bound by our Blackness in the US and generally see each other as brothers and sisters based on our skin tone and largely shared history. This is not true in Africa. I’ve only been to west Africa - but it’s you’re American first, then your gender and class, then maybe your Blackness. And really it’s your nationality and tribe/ethnic group first. Definitely visit and get your own impressions and keep an open mind.

You're absolutely wrong about Jamaica. If you purchase land in Jamaica, you will receive your Deed and its yours. If you're talking about someone selling land that's not theirs, that's another thing, and that's very hard as the law require everyone to show ownership of land in Jamaica before it can be sold. The same thing happens in the U.S. in certain instances, that could be similar to your experience in Jamaica. Ghana on the other hand have been known to scam land. I've seen a Jamaican who thought he bought land in Ghana and was building on it, but had it confiscated as he said the seller came back to reclaim the land saying she didn't mean to sell it. He gave it back and found another piece of land to buy but made sure it was totally legitimate. I have Ghanaian friends who talk about the corruption that takes place, but it has improved many folds compared to what it used to be.

There are plenty of Afro Latina women plus you can buy land. Latin America is closer proximity. I wouldn’t waste time going to Africa. Land issues is unfortunately not stopping anytime soon and affects Ghanaians the most. What is with this persecution complex some of you have thinking they only target AAs. Land issues takes up 70% of court cases in Ghana. My parents went through this with one of their land purchases 20 years ago and is going through it now with their recent land purchase. It affects ordinary Ghanaians.
It’s delusional to think Ghana was going to clean house for diasporans because of year of return. Ghana is the hot cake right now and it’s mostly successful Ghanaians in Uk and US buying lands. You have to take precaution and have good lawyers to buy land. The fear mongering actually helps Ghanaians as it becomes less competitive for us to buy land. Thanks.

Is there any reason that Black Americans and the citizens of Ghana cannot come together to figure out how to change or improve the laws around home and land ownership for everybody? Make things more fair , honest and right?
Seems like Blacks from USA can offer knowledge in going to Government leaders to try and get them to make changes. Explaining to Govt leader how change can make a more successful and Stronger Ghana.
Instead of insulting each, how about understanding each other and figure out how to change the country of Ghana for the better. Figure out how you can get rid of the corruption.

It hurts even more when it's done by people that say they love you ,and they look just like you, but they don't treat you as family.
