    For most people in Denmark, taxes are not as high as half their income. Every citizen over 18 years of age actually has a bottom limit part of their income of which they do not pay taxes. In 2018 that amount was DKK 46,200, or USD 7,200 (equiv.) per year. Of the rest of their income they pay 37-53% depending on their income. So low-income taxpayers for example get off with paying only 37% (of their earnings over USD 7,200 per year). Then they are covered for all medicare, most of their medicine bills, all education, education support, unemployment benefits, pension, and numerous grants and subsidies available if they do not possess savings, valuables, or estate.

    • @renewendt5455
      @renewendt5455 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong.
      Before your deduction of your tax related income and paying your tax, you pay 8% of your monthly income (arbejdsmarkedsbidrag). This raises your actually tax percentage by quite a bit.
      Unemployment benefits are NOT free, you pay for that via your unemployment organisation or union. There is a miscenception that the county will pay for you, if you are not a member of such an organisation. This is not true, they will pay for you but you are required to pay the county back later.
      Talking about taxes, remember to tell about the VAT (25%), taxes on private property etc.

    • @DebatingWombat
      @DebatingWombat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@renewendt5455 I think there has probably been a conflation between the higher unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”, literally “day money”) supplied via government supported insurance schemes* and the much lower, purely public benefits known as “kontanthjælp” (literally “cash aid”).
      I know you know the terms, so the translations and explanation is more for foreign viewers.
      *While such “unemployment insurance companies” known as “A-kasser” are often affiliated with unions, they are separate organisations. As such, you can choose another unemployment ensurer than the one affiliated with your union. Similarly, you don’t have to be a union member to subscribe to such unemployment insurance, even if the “insurance company” is affiliated with a particular union. However, since a particular “A-kasse” tends to be able to offer specific additional help with job applications, (re)training schemes etc., many Danes go with the one that most closely align with their area of work and/or union.

      Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, which is Denmark's offical name. Greenland is a part of Denmark.

    • @Aoderic
      @Aoderic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakobandersen3944 Yes Greenland is part of the "Kingdom of Denmark", but the "Kingdom of Denmark" is different from "Denmark", and thus Greenland is not part of Denmark.
      To be precise "Denmark" is the part of the "Kingdom of Denmark" that is situated in mainland Europe, it is separate from the two other parts, Greenland and the Faroe islands.
      Compare with the "Kingdom of England" which is England and Wales, thus Wales is Part of the "Kingdom of England" but not of "England"
      Colloquially you can call the "Kingdom of Denmark" just Denmark, but that ignores the political distinctness of the two entities.
      Furthermore the title "Kingdom of Denmark" had been made antiquated by the home rule act of 1979, and thus the title "Rigsfælleskabet" is a far more descriptive of the political nature of the union. Of course "Rigsfælleskabet" is harder to use in common language and to translate to English, and is thus sacrificed in colloquial speech.

    • @Aoderic
      @Aoderic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KurtFrederiksen The whole deal is very much opinion based, when I used the word "antiquated" that is clearly an opinion, and the different names and titles we use are also based on opinions. There are legal definitions used about the different entities, but they are also shaped over time by public opinion (we do have a democracy after all).
      So when I prefer the use of "Rigsfælleskabet" I'm imparting the opinion that would like to see the union as one of Equality and Cooperation. Some prefer other names because they have other biases or agendas, they might want further separation or independence, or they might want the opposite.
      When someone is saying that Greenland is part of Denmark, even if they are not completely incorrect, they are still ignoring (wilfully or not) the complexity of the relationship, and that could be seen as a conservative bias (which you are allowed to have, we do have a democracy after all), and they may even have an agenda, one that is against public opinion. Because as I look at the change of the relationship over time (trying to objective for a minute), I see public opinion move away from the old colonial mindset, towards that of Equality and Cooperation.
      And the future will be shaped by public opinion (we do have a democracy after all) and things, names, titles, countries will change whether we (the two of us) like it or not.

      The "moral" ownership is somewhat more complex than most people are aware. So let's rewind the clock to the days of the vikings. At the time they settled in the south of Greenland, that area was totallt uninhabited, and the land was claimed as part of the then Norwegian crown, along with places like Iceland, since most settlers there ancestrally came from Norway. At the time, there were inuit tribes far up north on the west coast, on the northern coast and a long way down along the eastern coast of Greenland, but they were already in decline, and died out completely, meanwhile the viking settlements thrived. However they did not remain alone on the island, as a new inuit tribe crossed over from modern day Canada to the Thule area, and began spreading south along the west coast. These are the modern day Greenlanders. They came into contact with the descendents of the vikings who were now in decline, and eventually they died out as contact was lost for quite some time. The claim of the crown over the land and their existence however was never forgotten, so later a renewed settlement took place where they found only the new Greenlanders and the ruins of the viking settlers villages. So this does leave the question quite open as to what claims each can make on the island, both sides have very strong claims, but also both sides have equally large holes in the claim. And that's why we have a status of "let's not rock the boat too much".

The PLC was fighting Sweden, which triggered the Danish king Frederick III in an attempt to settle old scores from the Torstenson War while Sweden was busy fighting the PLC. Actually Danish and Dutch are relatively close languages. If you add a bit of English and German language skills to Danish you should be able to communicate with a bit of effort with a Dutch speaker. Danish is a North Germanic language and German, Dutch and English are West Germanic languages.

    I was once asked about the "free" pornography in Denmark. how it was distributed ???? and I had to tell them that it wasn't free (as if you did not have to pay for it) but it was legalised pornography and you could buy it in a lot of places, then I was asked if people were "making out" in the streets for everybody to see....... No people (usually) keep that part of their life at home in private. We are not complete morally corrupted just because pornography is legalised here. Just a little funny story I hope it isn’t too inappropriate for your channel.

    There are many drunk people in our capital Copenhagen. But they are not Swedish all of them, just normal danes. We have a big alcoholproblem, specily among young people, in Denmark. Denmark is not a socialist country, like Venezuela, that is true. But from an american I can undestand why they think that way. In Denmark we don't have so many people you could call very rich or even super rich. We have a big mittelclass, which pay a lot of taxes, but they get a lot again. Free education and healtchcare. USA is a country where there a many rich and even super rich people who do not pay taxes. USA has a big mittelclass which don't pay much taxes, because you don't have a welfare state to pay to. And I think most americans are happy with that situation. As president Kennedy said "don't ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".

    ISS one of the worlds biggest employers, more than half a million workers
