Istanbul was their Capital. ( Europe and Asia ) back then it was only in Europe!! So yes he should have mentioned it ( oh and most of Russia is in Asia so...... it will apear in top 10 interesting facts about Asia .. as the largest counrty in the world.
@@torbenjohansen6955 yes Istanbul & Russia are in both continents (the Eurasian), but the Ottomans if I'm not mistaken came from farther in Asia. So I thought that was the reason it wasn't mentioned in the video
@@torbenjohansen6955Constantinople was their capital. It hasn't been Istanbul for even 100 years yet. It was Constantinople for 1600+ years.

I beleive the reason was because the ottomans didnt have overseas colonies so in terms where not a colonial empire, in addition they weren't as prominant as the ones mentioned so.
And let's not forget, that the copper used to make the statue of Liberty is from Norway 🇸🇯

You guys probably don't realize it but you too are part of European migration history.
With the migration periods (and a lot of mass movement in general), 'sharing' the land was never the objective - killing and/or enslaving the current inhabitants as you took the territory by force was the name of the game. Sometimes, as was the case with the Mongols, completely depopulating the land simply in order to have a bigger area for their animals to graze was carried out. Anti-slavery and anti-genocide attitudes are surprisingly recent (in the former case there is a very good video somewhere which explains how the British, contrary to popular narrative, managed to change the global attitude against slavery).

I think he was only talking about great colonial empires. The Ottoman Empire didnt have many colonial territories.
It was more of an outward expanding empire, much like the Roman Empire.
Speaking of long names ... There's a town in Arizona named "Why" ..... they tried to name it "Y" but state required a minimum of three letters. Just a fun fact :)

The Greek Empire was one of the biggest in the european continent. It included parts of todays Italy, Turkey, Africa( Lybia among others) and more. Tripoli the state of Lybia kept its Greek Name since then and it's still called like that today. Konstantinopel (todays Instanbul) was also Greek Territory until the Ottomans took it. Thankfully they left the holy Church of Agia Sofia as it was so people can still visit and see it today.
As an Italian I will let you get away with that very bad “joke” about Stromboli…

"because these are the people writing history" is such a common but ill informed take. You can find Historical sources from multiple perspectives of many parts of history. For example normally tragedies from history are recorded by the losers, not the winners. History is about compiling as many sources and perspectives as possible and coming to a consensus. Not the winners write what happened and we take it as fact.
Also, yes there were other empires. But he said the largest empires...not only empires. Spain, Portugal, France, Russia, and UK were larger than say the Imperial Chinese Empire, which covered China, Vietnam, and parts of Mongolia.
G'day Guys! What he didn't explain about the Mediterranean drying up was why... Almost 6 million years ago the Straits of Gibraltar closed up and since the inflow from all the rivers into the Mediterranean was less than the amount which evaporated over a few thousand years it simply dried up.... Obviously that situation was later reversed...BTW it didn't all dry up completely... Cheers!

If you saw the Sistine Chapel you were in the Apostolic Palace or as I call it The Vatican Palace. It’s the residence of the Pope. Aka you were in the Vatican City. The guards you saw are the Swiss Guards, there to protect the Pope.

You can learn about things at home watching TH-cam and reading books. What you can't learn at home is how it feels to walk on the streets of Rome, smell the coffee and freshly baked bread, and hear the Italian language floating from all those terrazzas. I think that the most important point of travelling is to enjoy the local atmosphere. I've visited a few of the wonders of the ancient world and I never focus on learning when I'm actually there. The feeling of being there always comes first. If I learn something while I'm there it's a plus but I really can't experience how it feels to stand in front of the Giza pyramids at home, so that's the priority for me.
You mean more educated. Intelligence doesn't equal education and these two people obviously are intelligent. I also went to Italy to enjoy it's nature, I can learn about it anywhere in the world, don't need to stand there.

The expression The empire where the sun never sets was originally used by the Spanish Empire, mainly in the 16th century, 17th century and the 18th century. Later it was used for the British Empire, mainly in the 19th century and the middle of the 20th century.

Etna is not Europe's highest vulcano, that would be Mount Elbrus (5,642 meters) in the Russian part of the Caucasus. Second highest is Mount Ararat in Turkye (5,137m) and third highest is the roughly 400 meters higher Pico El Teide (3,718m) on Tenerife, one of the Spanish controlled Canarian Islands of the coast of Morocco.
The topic is called "... famous and *active* vulcano". Both Mount Elbrus and Mount Ararat are dormant vulcanos, which therefore are *not* *active* . That's why it's Etna. But his script is a bit confusing, so what he is telling us isn't so clear and and a little bit misleading. If you only listen to what he says, than you might get to this conclusion.
@@dnocturn84 He said, at one point at least, "the highest volcano of Europe" and that's what I commented on. But fair enough, I was eating my Maccheroni at the same time so I might've missed the topic of that section of the vid. And seeing Etna is the only *active* vulcano on mainland Europe is automatically the highest, so... bit odd.
@@laziojohnny79 Yes, that's what I meant with issues with his script. He is saying things, that are indeed incorrect. It either needed a few additional words / sentences in that script, to make it clear and match their points, or an entirely rephrased script. This is actually a really bad list of random facts and quality isn't really there.

I've subcibed a long time ago because I like your content and conversational style, but that ASMR thing bothers me a bit. Most ASMR things make my skin crawl because it feels so uncomfortable. I'm autistic with sensory sensibilites and the sound that comes when you guys let your mics touch your clothing and move them around in your hands, is often giving me the same uncomfortable feeling. Your mics are very sensitive and pick up all the scratching sounds. When using headphones, it all comes straight to my ears.
