  • Carmelo Anthony has probably been the most disrespected star in the last few years. He didn't play well in OKC, but overall - he's one of the best players of the last decade. Prime Melo was amazing, and in this video I talk about Melo's entire NBA career and try to get rid of the misconceptions.
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

Again, that's not really true. When OKC was healthy, i.e. when Roberson was healthy to create that dominant defensive wing duo between Roberson and George, they were one of the most dominant teams in the league. And that was key in covering up Melo's defensive efficiencies and helping get everyone easy buckets. With no Roberson on defense, they lost arguably their biggest strength and they just didn't have the chemistry as a team to overcome those problems.

Melo didn’t force the trade to NY. Yes he said he would only sign an extension w/ the Knicks but the GM at the time Donnie Walsh wanted to wait to sign him that coming summer but the owner James Dolan was the 1 that forced the trade before the all star break even though the team was playoff bound.
Criticism for this season is fair game, he played horrible & he ultimately doesn’t want to come off the bench which might suit him better in this stage of his career. But okc & Westbrook was never a good fit. If you look at Olympic Melo the starting pgs are playmakers/passers. Westbrook is not that type of pg that controls a whole offense the way Wall or CP3 do.

Get Kyle Korver for that. Melo is a dynamic scorer and not a shooter. He never was one and he never will be. He'd be great on a team like the Bulls a couple years ago, when he signed the monster deal in New York and ruined his career.
But now? He's too old to play the 3 and he's not a stretch 4.. and lets not talk about defense. Teams will MURDER the Rockets on pick&rolls against Harden & Melo.
I just dont see him coming back. The Rockets have a very, very simple offense.. and they need steady shooters that can play defense for that. Melo is neither. I also dont see the argument, that he will thrive playing with their bench. The Rockets have Harden or CP3 on the court pretty much for 48 minutes per game. Where is Melo in all that?

OKC fan here and I can see that he CAN contribute on a championship team but it has to be the right situation for him. He simply isn’t good enough to be a star on a championship team but on the Rockets I think he can thrive as a scoring oriented 6th man. In the playoffs is when you need that ball stopper type player to stop the opponents runs and give you instant offence if plays are breaking down.
I think right now he is underrated but not by much. He can contribute to a championship team but not as a star, no way.

He still is overrated. Not because of him now, since he’s not as good as before, but people have started to look back on the career he’s put together. 1 Conference Finals in a year he didn’t even make the allstar team and 1 Semi-Finals appearance and multiple first round losses. Instead of putting him with guys like Nash in terms of success, I’d put him closer to McGrady, but T-Mac never had a squad or wasn’t healthy. Melo has some really good teams in Denver and New York, and even last year, but it never worked out. His career is overrated because he hasn’t done shit in 15, going on 16 years after being known as a winner in high school and college. Imo, he was an allstar, not a superstar, at his best. The dude at best is at the bottom of any top 10 during his prime years.

Him taking a step back that conf. finals season is irrelevant. In the playoffs, which is what everyone says matters. He was statistically their biggest performer from start to finish. Him and Billups led that team the conf. finals.
And his squads were never as loaded as the guys we put above him during his career. Durant has played with nothing but MVP's and first ballot Hof-ers his entire career. Lebron's great transformation as this consumate winner only started when he decided to play every season with no less than two superstars or at least perennial all stars, and Kobe's teams were putting up the same kind of seasons every season except the ones when he played with at least 1 other perennial all star.
Melo's never been on teams like that and that's partly his fault for not assessing the talent on his potential teams properly and putting himself in position to play with the proper talent. But that doesn't diminish the fact that he's one of the greatest players ever. Top 50 for sure, potentially top 30 or higher. What's crazy, is if he were drafted by Detroit, he might've been considered on the same level as Kobe, Magic, Bird, and all those guys just a level below Jordan due to how much they would've won. But, it is what it is.

I agree that Melo's struggles in OKC wasn't entirely his fault (Billy Donovan's bad offense, Russell Westbrook's poor execution of the bad offense, and Melo's awkward fit with the team are all partly to blame as well), but he wasn't as good as he was made out to be in his prime. Everybody talks about "oh if Melo had more help he'd be doing better", but his skill set does not allow him to produce as much as he should around talented players. He is an elite shot maker, but he doesn't create good shots consistently for himself or for his teammates. He doesn't play off ball very well (if you watch him play off ball, he literally just shuffles around the perimeter somewhat aimlessly), he doesn't pass very often, and he plays average at best defense. He had plenty of help in Denver (Chauncy, A.I., Marcus Camby) , and he had decent help him New York for at least one and a half seasons, but he still couldn't get it done in the playoffs.

Melo just has a huge ego. His play doesn't match up to his huge ego so people dislike him. Look at Vince Carter, he realised he was no longer a star offensive player and became a very good defender and bench player which he wasn't known for until his later career. Melo has started every NBA game he has ever played in but he should be leading an offensive off the bench, not starting as a third option. His game isn't suited to that. Even D Wade realised he was no longer a starter last season.

  • @J-Hue
    @J-Hue 5 ปีที่แล้ว

He's a first ballot hall of famer and one of the greatest to play. His biggest problem was not knowing how to assess the talent he needed to have around him to create a championship quality squad and not ruffling enough feathers to force management to get the players needed to win.
Outside of that, he was a great player who's best years are in the line of Kobe's. Only he played most of his prime with the kind of squads Kobe had in the post-Shaq years when it was all first round and outs and missing the playoffs.

As a Knicks fan I liked Melo at New York. However we gave up way too much to get him mid season of 2010-11 via trade. I was into the lineup we had and build upon Stoudamire, Chandler, Gallinari and Felton. Then we gave up 3 or those 4 guys mentioned and Mozgov to get Carmelo when the Knicks could have just waited for the off-season to sign him up for free.

Early on in their rookie season, people were expecting a Bird/Magic type rivalry for their whole careers. Unfortunately the Lebron / Melo comparisons ended in their second years in the NBA.
Lebron became an all time great and Carmelo became the modern day Alex English, which isn’t bad, but still underachieving.

He went from avg 22 a game last season on the Knicks to 16 a game as a third option spot up shooter role. I think he can still score 20 a game in the right system. Melo thrives with pass first point guards that look to get him in rhythm. I wished okc would’ve run more screens for melo to get him scoring off ball instead of just having him camp in one spot while Westbrook and pg13 get their iso plays.

As a long time Knicks fan not really wanting Melo from the start especially considering how much we gave up for him (we finally had an exciting team even if Amare were to still break down), we never gave him a respectable team to play with. 2012-2013 was a lucky experiment that worked. Everything clicked that year, but there was no way it was going to continue on. Even Jr Smith was playing with his head on straight and not getting into trouble! What more do you need to know based off of that statement???
I think the Lebron comparison is fair and I remember earlier in their careers how much they were compared as you said Andy. The biggest thing I agree on and is definitely understated is that Melo plays hard on offense and does not flop (although he loved to complain which maybe is justified). When he attacks he is relentless and never gives up. Now he can settle for jump shots as well and that was always the worst knowing in the 4th quarter he was not going to pass and shoot most likely a garbage contested shot.
Overall I still do not like Melo as a player especially as the lead player. However, with what the Knicks gave him, he did what he could.
