He might’ve just replaced it because he didn’t want to go through the hassle of replacing the pulley, once the pulley goes out more often than not the compressor goes out too.
How do you know he didn't do those things? Those are separate components and this video was literally just how to replace the compressor. But since you brought it up, why not also recommend replacing the condenser? It should really all be replaced.

Maybe he vacuums the system in another video. Wouldn't that help and make changing the dryer and vacuum unnecessary?
