i do understand the reason behind the development of the hood of the c5b gas mask and in my opinion all gas mask should have a type of chemical hood developed for them. i'm just lightheartedly making fun of this video a bit for "reinventing the wheel" making something that already exists and for all of the reasons behind this hood being developed other then the different head shapes was just a bit goofy to me.

With the recruitment problems, simple changes and accommodations can help. Why sideline an otherwise able and capable person when a solution can be found to accommodate basic religious customs it takes nothing away and adds to the pool of people to draw from rather than maintain a limitation because of intransigent mindsets, adaptation is not always a bad thing.

soldiers don't necessarily have an option to shave regardless of the supply situation, there are people for whom shaving causes health complications, especially if you order them to shave with poor equipment and access to hygiene products in a warzone and I think a force that is suffering from skin infection is a less efficient one that a force that has beards. There's also that Canada is running a volunteer force and some people like having a beard. It's not like conscription where you can force servicemen to your whims and they can't choose to not enlist.
With haircuts where there are significant health issues and risk to self if they're not kept short but here it also helps people with less common head shapes, so letting people have beards is just a bonus on top

Sometimes soldiers don’t have the time and means for a spa day. It was compulsory for American soldiers in WW2 to be clean shaven, yet in many photos of soldiers rotating off the frontline- they have the amount of facial hair growth that corresponds to the amount of time they were on the frontline.

For example; The UK has allowed facial hair (i.e full beard and moustaches) for hundreds of years and in the mid 19th century it became commonplace for officers to have sideburns or 'side whiskers' and moustaches. Even prior to that it was common for Infantry Pioneers to wear full beards. Excerpts from the Crimean War show all ranks were encouraged to grow large moustaches, and full beards during winter. Moustaches kept being mandatory for all ranks who could grow them until WW1. And that's just one country.
