The Quickest Way To Catch Summer Walleyes

  • Todays video is all about one of the coolest ways to catch walleyes. This technique is definitely the most effective in the summer and into fall timeframe. This is snap jigging baits like the Acme Hyper Rattle. In this video I drive around until I see walleyes. I then drop into the pod and snap the bait very aggressively and boom...fish on. This is a very strange way to catch walleyes during the summer months and many have probably not tried it. So in this video I talk about how I fish the lure, the rod I like to fish it on and why it is so productive. Summer walleye fishing with the Hyper Rattle is such a cool way to catch fish and I hope you have fun fishing this same pattern.

    Awesome video! Tom! Jigging raps, Hyper Rattles, and Johnny Darters have changed walleye fishing. I fish the Missouri River a lot and once the water temp got to sixty I haven’t used live bait. In colder water just don’t rip it as hard. The biggest thing you’ve taught me Tom is don’t fish till you find fish!

    I watched your videos and went on a trip with a bunch of buddies to the boundary waters in Minnesota. Brought my Lowrance with me to put on the rental boats and used this exact technique on basswood lake. First trip I’ve ever really “targeted” walleye and ended up landing a 8.3 pound 30 1/2” walleye! Among other fish of course but I just wanted to send a shout out and a thank you!

    Tom , wish I had your fishing, I got lake erie and thousands of boats everyone zig zagging in out trying for a piece of the pie,,100drs of boats at the launches, deep transition for are walleyes are 45 to 62 feet on the mud flats, bottom bouncing and trolling techniques are truly the most perductive way,,wish I had your lakes, were you have it more or less too your self,,western N.Y. is just a high pressure area from fishing too hunting , I'm thankful for what I have, but I'm just saying wish more remote and less pressure and this technique then would be amazing

    Great video as always, quick question. I fish the bago system and our summer patter is either the mouth of the river or the mud. I've tried this technique without much success on what little deep structure their is. Do you think this would work at the mouth of the river? I'm worried the current won't allow the bait to hit bottom.

    Tom- thanks for the great videos. I look forward to new ones almost everyday. Question that I haven’t seen asked:
    When you say hit or snap the lure on slack line, are you talking about the fall, or when you snap up your rod tip? I know you want the line falling on slack but I didn’t know if you also mean to rip it up on a slack line vs a loaded line.
    Thanks!

    Hi Tom, big time follower of your videos here. Coming back to fishing after 14 years away and never fished for Walleye but I'm in an area where I can fish for those now.. The one thing I was not sure about was the leader? So you're going from the braided line to a monofillament leader... Are you just tying those two together or can you run a swivel or something between the two? 10 lb braided, to 10 lb (?) mono then to a clip and then the hyper rattler. Is that correct? Just about got all my ducks in order for this. I thought we might be out there today but something came up but hopefully by next week we'll be out doing this. Thanks again for your amazing college level fishing videos!

      @TheNewMediaoftheDawn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve heard 30-35 fow or more... Just reel them up very slow so their swim bladder can contract in time, and come to the surface inflated.

    • @alexpc5063
      @alexpc5063 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      During the ice season we fish for walleyes past 30 feet and thats usually where the air bladder will become an issue. So 30 feet or more is usually the area this becomes a concern. Reeling up slow as mentioned can help alot, but take note it doesn't always help. The best advice I can say is if your gonna fish that deep, just be prepared to take some home.

      yes, his lure is very heavy and thats what allows him to drop down so quickly and use this "see" method in the first place. the lure sinks very very fast and allows instant access to the fish he "sees" on his radar. so yes it hits bottom near every time.
