  • Hey Guys! Took a ride to Kingsville, Texas today to explore the beautiful King Ranch Saddle Shop. A beautiful retail store feature hand crafted high end items from clothing to furniture to knives to jewelry and even including cowboy hats, boots and saddles!
    I have been full-time Boondocking for the past 22 months living and working out of my F150. I have been fortunate enough to do a bit of traveling as well!

    Good Morning Dennis, Have you read about the King ranch ? That is something that used to be included in Texas History, well. I Guess it was upon the teacher, that knew it. His ranch was impressively huge, in it's day.

      Good afternoon. Yes ma'am. We might go back and do the tour one day but it is a 90 minute tour and you are in a bus with other people looking out the window. I've watched several videos about it on TH-cam and it really looks no different than when we drive a back road. I'm not sure I want to get on a crowded bus and sit next to other people with Covid going on. Something to consider down the road. They also have a king Ranch museum that might be interesting.

      History is so strange now! I taught Texas history and the district threw out a lot of good history books. There was one that mentioned a friends family that owned a lot of land and helped develop Corpus, Victoria, Beeville, etc. No mention of that. However, a friend has a ranch, chili contest where the students make up the brand ranch name, breed of cattle, etc. They present their ranch and a cowboy meal to judges and student. Many copy the Running W brand.

    Ummmm. Leather and coffee. Two of the GREAT smells of all time. King Ranch saddles hold a great deal of respect among horse people. Like most things of the best quality they ain't cheap. But they've been made for a LOOOOOOOONG time. My brother had one, gifted to him from a wealthy uncle. He said it was the best saddle he ever sat. He wasn't a great horseman, but he did compete in some events, so he had some experience. The King Ranch has a lot of history. The Santa Gertrudis breed was developed there. And they've raised and raced a Triple Crown winner. Oil and gas finds made the operation even more money. And if mesquite and prickly pear cactus were cash crops the King Ranch would be the richest entity on the planet. Great vid Dennis. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Like you, my purchases from there will be in my minds eye only. Like winning the lottery.

    • @dennis78382
      @dennis78382  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So have you ever taken the tour? I'm interested in the king ranch but the tour seems to be you sit in a bus and they drive you around for 90 minutes and the driver speaks the whole time. It might be interesting for me but I don't know if it would make a very good video. I watched several versions on line. What do you think Tom?

      I don't know. Never took the tour, but worked on the ranch at different times. Also goose hunted adjacent to it and had to cross the fence to retrieve birds occasionally. (note-do NOT take your shotgun) When I worked on the ranch I drove my vehicle in and out, but only on the route they directed. No detours. They were adamant about that. And of course when you drive from Corpus to the lower RGV you're crossing miles and miles with the King Ranch on both sides of Hwy 77. I left the area in the late 70s, so things MAY be drastically different now. But I kinda doubt that much different.

    • @dennis78382
      @dennis78382  3 ปีที่แล้ว
