So inspiring thank you!!! I just started the cello. I’m 27 yo and why do we think that learning a new instrument is for children? Why is that ingrained in us? Like for some reason, and I don’t think I’m alone in this, when you start thinking of learning a new instrument at a later age you get that thought, “am I too late to start learning a new instrument?” “Am I too old?” Idk if you can relate. But yeah, people like you and videos like these are super inspiring! Thank you!!!

People believe the idea of you can only learn an instrument completely to a ridiculous degree now. I’ve seen someone said they started violin at age 6 and everyone told them you started too late. Apparently to some people you can only start at 3. Ridiculous!!

My goodness!! Your achievement is mind blowing! Do you have any prior music experience? Your video and a few other adult beginners' have pretty much sold me into trying to learn the cello now at 30 years old and many many years of wishing I could learn. Great job and dedication to learning this beautiful instrument!

You should give it a go for sure! I have some varied music experience with clarinet, piano and guitar but was not very good at any of them, but went in knowing how to read music and at least some experience with fingering from guitar days, but that was 10+ years ago.

I started learning cello 3 years ago at age 32 - totally worth it :))

Great progress for just 1 year! I see you discontinued on the Suzuki path after book 1.

Thanks for the comment! And no, I am still playing Suzuki. I played a couple of the supplemental content songs, but still on Suzuki, currently book 3.

how often and for how much do you practice?

I track my time so I can say that over that first year I practiced a total of 200 hours, which averages out to just over 30 minutes a day. I do not practice every day, however, so it is more like 40-45 minutes 4-6 times a week.

Can I ask how much your cello cost?

Hi, well I am using three different ones. At first it was a student rental from the local shop, $50/month I think. Then I upgraded for $75/month. At the very end I bought one, it is a ~1950-1960 German cello and was $5k. I tried everything I could get my hands on between $2k-$10k and this one sounded the best to my teacher and me.

Some can range from beginner 400-3000 and some 20,000-10000 and pros 500,00-1,000,000
