    You absolute legend! I was working on my '05 Scion tc for many hours trying to get the driver side axle out. It has the same recessed axle. It popped out on the first strike using the vise grips and slide hammer. I was so happy!

  • @TekkenBones
    @TekkenBones 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is some seriously good advice. I tried this on a 2007 Volvo S40 T5....Volvo sells a "special tool" to fit in the tiny recessed space behind the axle, but even those using the special tool is still difficult to get the shaft out.
    So instead of buying the Volvo special tool, invest in the slide hammer with vice grip attachment (as it has multi-uses) and it pulled the shaft in one single hit.
    Thanks Scotty.

    I've used one of these before. I was working on a 2002ish Chevy Impala that needed a new front wheel bearing. Actually belonged to my shop teacher's wife. The old bearing was practically welded to the knuckle by mother nature and my teacher instructed me to use one of these on it. Well the version we have is a bit bigger and heavier duty than yours and ended up tearing the bearing apart. The rest of the bearing had to be punched out.
    In a slightly humorous twist, the cheap part my teacher bought off the internet for this car turned out to be a wee bit too small for the axle. So we grabbed the half inch impact and made it fit, with the help of a very generous coating of anti-seize. I hope the next time that bearing needs to be replaced I won't be the one who gets the assignment.

    I recently changed both cv axels om my camry 2.2 98. The left side was stuck. I used a cable and a sledge hammer. I tied the cable around the back of the axel where it goes in to the diff housing and the othe end to the hammer. Then used a golf putting action with the hammer and out it popped. Only cost 15 bucks for the cable.

    Scotty, My 1988 porsche 944 will not start. I think it could be the fuel pump because when I took it off the trailer it started and it drove off, but on the way into my garage it died and wouldn't start. Is this the only thing it could be or is there more. I tried pressure testing but the port on the tester was too small for my shrader valve. It would only stay on the end and not spin all the way down, but even with the tester only on the end of the valve I read 0 pressure. Thanks and keep those vids coming they are really helpful!

    • @scottykilmer
      @scottykilmer  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      pray it's just a bad fuel pump, you could remove the valve on the port, and put on a rubber fuel line piece to hook up to a pressure tests, that's a cheap option.

    Scotty I have a question. I have a 2010 Chevy Cobalt. The metal flap to the entrance of the gas tank has disappeared I looked around on the internet and most people have said that they have fallen into the tank. I also read that it can get jammed in the check valve and give you a check engine light and cruddy gas millage My question is, how can I get the metal flap out of the tank. and 2 can I buy a new flap or do I have to get a whole new tube? and 3 what causes the flaps to fall in?

    • @scottykilmer
      @scottykilmer  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      they fall in cause they are made cheaply, typical GM construction. Me, i'd just leave it alone, but change the whole tube if you want it fixed.

    • @AlphaNerd132
      @AlphaNerd132 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scotty Kilmer I have read of people having it get stuck and having troubles filling up there tank because of it. is that a possibility or will it cause no problems? and another question is why do i get cruddy gas millage when that fell in?

    • @dnlmachine4287
      @dnlmachine4287 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume its too big to pass into the fuel pump right? If your car has easy access to the fuel pump from under the back seat that might be an option. Or if that flap is magnetic-metal maybe a snake magnet down the filler tube? If the flap failed before it will fail again, try think of another option if you want to protect the fuel filler tube opening. Stay gold.

      No.alternator is the one that charges the car battery. As long as your battery is charged, its just sharing enough juice to jumpstart a weak battery.

    • @LarsonFamilyFarm-LLC
      @LarsonFamilyFarm-LLC 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Today's alternators have minimum spec amperage diodes and circuitry... basically the car must be running...fast idle preferable when the jumper cables attached...if the voltage falls below ~11.8 volts...when starting the other car....yes, you risk blowing out the regulator (diodes-filters circuits) but it's rare if you do it right, The wrong way and VERY Common way people do it...is they attach jumper cables first without the motor running...jumping battery to battery...and then trying to start the dead car...you'll most definitely blow the regulator. Too late, if you didn't have the running car running first before cranking the dead car.

      Check the steering shaft right above the brake pedal where it goes into the firewall. There is a boot there that has "silicone" lube in it and sometimes it dries out. It sounds like when you rub a balloon or basketball shoes squeaking on the court. If you get the noise when turning the wheel when car is off check that for sure. My 2001 Camry had that noise and I fixed it by turning the wheel while looking at the steering shaft- then i sprayed silicone lube in the rubber boot where it met the shaft. Stay gold.

    Word of caution using the slide hammer, be careful on how your hand is griping the slide it will smash some meat off your hand. You will only do that once though, just want to save someone the pain.

    hey scottie how would you remove a stuck brake rotor? are there any tools for that? thanks

    • @scottykilmer
      @scottykilmer  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      really, they just rust and stick on the hub. Normally hitting them on the backside with a big hammer gets em off, sometimes heat is needed too

      shylildude If it has threaded holes in the front, screw some bolts through them until they press into the knuckle. Tighten evenly, a little on each back and forth, and it will break loose.

    Hey Scotty what's your opinion on royal purple synthetic oil? Should I just try it out on my 2010 dodge charger?

    • @racerron27
      @racerron27 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started using Royal Purple about a year ago in my Mazda Miata that I autocross. It is one of the top synthetic oils out there but is sometimes hard to find in stores.

    • @ro3otbass
      @ro3otbass 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I buy Royal Purple from Jegs online, it is cheaper and they have all the different viscosities that the stores don't have. I get 2 mpg better since I've started using it. My Jeep has 385,000 miles on it, it's the only oil I will ever use.

    I had a 1996 Kia sephia that I changed the axles in years ago ,I yanked and tugged and pried and beat and called it everything in the book , I thought shizzit I will just go to autozone and get a slide hammer this will get that axle end out of the tranny , I hooked it up yanked and tugged until I about pulled the car off the jacks and it kept putting it on and yanking and tugging ,I drilled a hole in the side of that axle piece and took a piece of heavy duty chain and I stuck a master lock through the hole and connected the chain with the lock yanked and tugged and broke the lock ,, I was going through the ceiling now pizzised off I said hell with it and went to the junk yard and pulled a transmission with a good axle connected still in the tranny ,, I put that tyranny and axle into my car and I'll be dammed I got a bad tranny and it slipped big time ( automatic tranny ) I put some stuff in that was supposed to make it stop slipping and it slipped twice as bad had a 30 day return on the tranny ,drove it slipping for a month then yanked it and got another tranny ,, got lucky on the second tranny ha ha. ,what a nightmare
