Thank so much for the very detailed information! ❤ I wonder if you can make a video about how the coin lockers system work in JP. I’ve been there once but all the coi lockers seem to be alway sold out. Can i pay for an over night?
Actually I filmed a video about how to use them so there will be a video! Yes, you an leave your things in a locker overnight - but the pricing is based on one day being midnight-to-midnight, so you'd have to pay for two days.
When I first went to Japan I stayed just near Shinjuku Gyoen, it was perfect to be close to all the entertainment but far away enough to be in a quiet area! Always love watching your videos so I can get excited for when I can get back again!
Sounds good! And thank you!! Lately I sometimes wonder if there's much point making videos when no one can travel but to hear that and know that you enjoy them makes it worth it! :-)
Went to Tokyo and stayed in Kabukicho for 7 days straight at a hotel, as someone coming from southern Europe it felt unbelievably safe and relaxing 🤣🤣🤣
Whenever I go to Japan I stay in a small hotel in Shinjuku across from the eastern part of Kabukicho. Every morning I would go on a jog to the Godzilla head and back before heading out for the day’s journey. Would recommend visiting the Samurai Museum for a fun experience as it’s very hands on in terms of costumes and even learning how to sword fight. There’s also a temple that has a small market every Saturday or Sunday with little trinkets from a lot of old folk.
Thanks for the recommendations! It's an interesting place for a morning jog (not sure how you managed that as well as sightseeing - my feet are always complaining after a day of walking around for miles!!). Credit to you! :-)
Samurai Museum was actually awesome! That was one of our best experiences in Tokyo. They spoke great English, had a great sword show, great sense of humour when giving us the tour. We saw a samurai versing a ninja!
I was planning on going this year but with the outbreak and all ...well ya'know and it's always a pain to get someone to come with you, I mean I've don'e a 11 hour flight before and it's so boring on your own

Nice tips, Amy! I always look forward to your vids! I'm going to show my wife your new dress as it looks great!
Thanks! Absolutely agree - if you can stand the crowds for even a short time, it's definitely worth the experience. I think it's a little more bearable in Tokyo as people tend to be more polite and don't push past you as much as in some countries - that makes it easier to cope with crowded stations for sure.
@@cakeswithfaces yeaah you're rightt but anywayy thanks for making this Shinjukuk guide🙏. i like Shibuya and Harajuku most because fashion / streetwear in there

Good idea! I'm hoping to explore roof gardens and terraces some more when I can go back to Japan. The ones on top of department stores and stations, etc would usually be free! In Osaka, Namba Parks has an amazing-looking one - look it up on Google Images!
Hi, nice video. Are there good clubs in Shinjuku? And if the train closes at midnight, do the taxis charge more to take you back to your hotel? What else do you recommend for clubs in Tokyo please? Thank you so much.
Not my scene I'm afraid - I don't go clubbing, so I can't help with that one, sorry! I think taxis do charge more during the night time though, as they do in most places.
I don’t know what it says about me but no one approached me to get into a bar! I found the host clubs very seedy - avoid! Recommend the samurai museum 100% to anyone interested after covid 👍
We stayed in Shinjuku at the Hyatt Regency and yes we got lost in Shinjuku station several times. Funny story, the first day we went to the station, I was so confused by the map. A young lady stopped and asked us where we would like to go. I told her to tell me where I should go. She laughed and asked again and I said I really didn't know where I should go and asked for suggestions. She said that the samurai museum was near by so we just walked there. It is small but awesome and the tour guide spoke really good English. Then the tour guide told us about an Udon place around the corner and it was super good. Planning to get back when possible.
When I went to kabuchiko, I had two people follow me, trying to get me to a club or something. I just avoided eye contact and kept shaking my head and saying no and eventually they left me alone. Only bad experience I had in Japan.
Because we travel with my son (he just turned 16), I've never been to Golden Gai. We did walk through Kabuchiko. As soon as they saw the boy, the 'barkers' backed off. We watched the Godzilla show at the Gracery on our first trip. Shinjuku station is insane but, both my son and I have gotten trapped in Lumine Est!
Glad the touts had the sense to leave a family alone. (You clearly weren't their target audience!). I've had some situations where I got trapped in a station, and none of the ticket barriers would let us through!! 😂😂
@@ThatBrunetteTH-cam The first one I think!! Although they have just built a new east-west tunnel through Shinjuku Station that should make it quicker to get around (if you can find it!!).
The samurai museum is really cool, stayed in the godzilla Hotel and that place is just around the corner if I remember correctly. Great video and tips...looking forward to going back :)
I tend to pick hotels very close to Shinjuku Station on my trips to Japan especially on the southern side. It's just a very convenient area for me. The one time I did stay away from Shinjuku was in Shinagawa which was nice but took too long a time on the trains to visit friends in the suburbs on the Chuo Line so I don't think I'll do that again. Shinjuku also has a fantastic cinema complex called Shinjuku Piccadilly and I always make an effort on every trip to catch a movie or two there.
There are so many great hotels in Shinjuku - it's my favourite place to stay in Tokyo! The prices change a lot depending on the time of year and what deals are on, so rather than sticking to specific hotels, I'd recommend choosing somewhere close to a station that's within your price range. Here's the process I use to choose hotels when I book my trips: th-cam.com/video/TAmhxg9MwIc/w-d-xo.html And here are a few hotels I've stayed in, including some in Shinjuku: th-cam.com/video/Sude9IFjSRM/w-d-xo.html
While I was in Kabukicho, I kept having those dudes trying to coerce me into their bars. I said "I"m a white guy vacationing in Japan... why are Nigerians the only people who want to talk to me?" In a lot of the hotels and convenience stores there are pre-recorded English messages saying "Beware the touts. Do not accept their offers." The stories are not all dramatized and clickbait. They WILL take advantage of you if you're gullible.
Unfortunately that is a downside of the area - and why Kabukicho's known as the "bad area" of Tokyo. The only stories I know of people getting into trouble in Tokyo are exactly that - being enticed into dodgy bars by the touts. Usually their money's stolen, or their drinks are spiked, etc. If you ignore the touts and keep walking, it's otherwise a safe place to be; I've stayed there many times as the location's so good otherwise.
@cakeswithfaces Yeah... generally not a good idea to visit a bar if the guy tells you it's up 7 flights of stairs. I also had a dark skinned woman there insist that I needed a "massage" and that she could send someone to my hotel. It took me awhile to convince her that I wasn't interested.
I stayed in Shinjuku kobukicho area when I visited. I travelled alone and was approached many times and was pulled to go in their bar. I did and said the samething to everyone who grabbed my arm to drag me around. I firmly grabbed their arm back, leaned back to stop them from yanking my arm, and said very formly while looking them in the eye... Touch me again, and this arm of yours will be mine. By the end of 2 weeks and seeing these people almost everyday. We would greet and wave to each other with a health respect for each others personal space. See short people can make a stand, but still be friendly. I am sure they thought I was crazy... good keep thinking that for my safety.
Glad you ended up on good terms in the end!! That must have been annoying if they were grabbing your arm. Thankfully they never tried that on me; I used to live in London so I'm expert at blanking people and walking on!

Hi, would anyone happen to know a few things I'm having difficulties looking up. 1. Can you see godzilla up close without staying at the hotel? 2. Does the cost of the samurai museum includes dressing up as a samurai or if it's separate? Love the content :) Super super helpful, thank you!
Hi Eric! Access to the terrace with Godzilla is supposed to be for hotel guests only. You have to go up a lift, through the lobby and out some doors onto the terrace. I think someone said in the comments once that they just wandered up there - however I'm sure the hotel doesn't really want crowds of tourists all walking through their hotel if they're not staying there. Looks like dressing up as a samurai is included with the museum ticket! www.samuraimuseum.jp/en/experience/index.html
For us, Omoide Yokocho was great, but Golden Gai seemed really expensive, which is why we didn't visit anything there. Shinjuku is pretty cool tho, need to spend a bit more time there next time! We just walked through Kabukicho at night for photos last time, certainly an experience. I had quite the laugh when a big bouncer or sth yelled at us: "YO GUYS! You wanna visit a BIG TIDDY BAR? Come! 😂😂 I think Shinjuku's the kind of place you can go back to and just enjoy wandering around in the evening, even if you've been before. :-) Sometimes with bars you need to know where to go. Tbh I usually get drinks from the convenience store and take them back to the hotel room!!

I'd expect it'd be busier than usual, so when you're going to popular, touristy places consider the timing (eg there might be queues for places like the SkyTree - I usually try and avoid places like that at the weekends anyway). There'll be lots of people going to Tokyo for the Olympics and I'd expect they'd want to see the main sites while they're there, when they're not at an event. It's more of a cafe/lounge that's next to the Godzilla terrace, in the hotel. I'm not sure but I don't think they take reservations: shinjuku.gracery.com/dining/bonjour/ Note that when I was there earlier this month, the terrace was closed so you could see Godzilla from inside but you couldn't go out on the terrace. You don't really break this up into "south+west of station"=>more friendly, more international; and "north of station"=not necessarily but it folds in pretty quickly so why not just put another => kabukicho => not really the bestest place to go if you're only visiting. Sadness :( :(.
We were supposed to be in Japan next month staying at Shinjuku then going on a cruise. Hmmph!
Started watching your videos and were so looking forward to it. Then Covid Arggggggg.
Oh well one day it will happen.
Aww sorry to hear that. I hope you can reschedule and go on your trip in the future when it's safer!
So shocked you dont have more subscribers;; your videos are always so well put together as well as super informative !!! You've made my "what I want to do in japan" list , so long!!!
Aww thank you, that's very kind. Tell your friends! 😝 And I know what you mean about the never-ending Japan to-do list - exactly the same here!! :-)
You don't really break this up into "south+west of station"=>more friendly, more international; and "north of station"=not necessarily but it folds in pretty quickly so why not just put another => kabukicho => not really the bestest place to go if you're only visiting. People may be polite, but they really want all of your money.
Also; I really liked Hotel Washington. Small room, 100% Japan bathroom, delicious breakfast, and good basement restaurants. My suggestion.
Thanks for the hotel recommendation!
Correction: September 2 closed 🔐 Twitter: @TA_MUSEUM & C 4 urself.
I have a terrible news: Toei Animation Studio and Museum was opened since August 28 & then, it close again since September 8 due to COVID19 situation. I am very heartbroken 💔 definitely. Stay safe and stay healthy.
Hope it opens up again when it's safer and international tourism starts up again!
9!
Salam from Bali
Are you currently living in Japan?
No I'm in the UK (wishing I could go to Japan!!) :-)
@@cakeswithfaces I think the COVID-19 disrupted you and prevented you from travelling to Japan in 2020.
@@williamjames212 Certainly did! I was supposed to be there in May.
