    Peter Phillips
    Performed a tone above written pitch
    Score: www.cpdl.org (Vincent Carpentier)
    Sancte Deus, sancte fortis, sancte et immortalis miserere nobis.
    Nunc Christe, te petimus, miserere quaesumus, qui venisti redimere perditos
    noli damnare redemptos, quia per crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
    Amen.
    === ENGLISH ===
    Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy and Immortal One, have mercy upon us.
    Now, O Christ, we ask thee, we beseech thee, have mercy.
    Thou who came to redeem the lost, do not condemn the redeemed:
    For by thy cross thou hast redeemed the world. Amen.

    This song changed my life. I heard this when I was 25 years old and said, "I'm not where I need to be in life."

    Nothing hits better than early 80s Tallis Scholars

    M.38 is an English 7th cadence, where both the maj/min 7ths are heard simultaneously. It’s crunchy and awesome. No voice breaks their mode. Therefore, the ficta in print here is an error.

      Thanks for your comment. As you can hear, the Tallis Scholars sing a false relation here, do not sing the ficta in the score. This score was not made by me, I have downloaded it from CPDL, so I cannot change it. I hope, however, that such small errors do not distract from the enjoyment of this splendid music.

      Certainly! I get strangely sentimental about cadences in the English music of this time, and the Tallis Scholars bring them out beautifully.

    Did they change the last chord to a minor chord?

    • @pannonia77
      @pannonia77  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The last chord is not a minor chord, it is a G-D fifth without a third, the Tenor sings G instead of B.
